Good work getting into that brood box early. That’s the part that a lot of beekeepers don’t do and then wonder why their bees swarm
@swaleshoney
@swaleshoney 4 месяца назад
Yes, I need to keep them occupied until I can get some boxes on and give them more room.

Hi Mr. Swales, I really enjoy your videos, they are what RU-vid used to be 15 years ago, ordinary people showing their hard earned skill without a monetary incentive. You're not just a marketing ploy for mediocre queens/nucs/microplastics like 95% of beekeeping RU-vid "creators".

Thank you for your kind comments. They are much appreciated. The main aim of this channel was to simply make a record of my time with the bees. I also thought it might just spice up the job a little, especially as I’ve been at it so long. It’s given me a fresh perspective on things.

Another good video. Consider please doing a few videos during the year of what the bees are working / flowers providing income for your bees. I presume you have willow catkins where you are too ?? Most beekeepers have an eye on nature too, the bees are a unique window into our plants and flowers at any given time of the year. Pollen colours all ties in with the overall beekeeping interest.
@swaleshoney

Thanks for your input Jim. I do intend to show bees on plants wherever possible. I had bees working on a pussy willow last week but they were all at the top of the tree and too far away to film.

Hi Trevor I had a similar system but utilised the boil tub from an old twin tub washing machine, not used it for years as energy costs more than new frames, there is a RU-vid channel called Simplybeeutiful honey that uses an old 40 gallon barrel with a nice fire under it
@swaleshoney
@swaleshoney 4 месяца назад
Thanks for that Kev. There’s more than one way to do it, that’s for sure. I think it’s worth the energy to boil the frames but I’m unsure about the labour. I’ll try and explain in a future video.

@@swaleshoneyI use a 2% solution NaOH. Immerse for 2min. in a boiling solution of 20Langstroth or 30 frames145. I disinfect 1200 pieces per day. You also have a very good score. Happy for you and your bees. Good work has already begun. I wish you a good season! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🤝🤝🤝🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🐝🐝🐝✌✌✌

Thank you John, I’m glad you find them helpful. Believe me when I say that even after all these years I still get it wrong so many times. The major advantage I have is the number of colonies I have. Mistakes have to be put to the back of my mind as I deal with the next colony or site. I think with bees a worthwhile piece of advice ( if you only have a few colonies) is that if you’re unsure, do nothing. Close the hive up, go and have a cuppa and a think and then try again. Hope that helps.

Trevor brilliantly done as usual,I’m on the fence regarding boiling frames ! Love the set up though. OSR and treatments is always a tricky one 😉

Bonjour, les reines de frelon au printemps recherche des protéines. Elles le trouve dans les fleurs. Il faut mettre les pièges dans les fleurs. Le piège doit être de couleur pour attirer la reine... Bravo pour le piège sélectif.

@swaleshoney

Glad you found the video of interest Peter. I don’t save the propolis, I wouldn’t know how to, to be honest. I just tip the hot solution down the drain. If it’s allowed to cool it forms a wierd gel like consistency. Thanks for your input.

Another great video Trevor, keep it up 👍🏻 What software do you use for your video editing out of interest?
@swaleshoney
@swaleshoney 4 месяца назад
Thank you Paul, very kind comment. I hope all’s well with your enterprise. All the videos are filmed on my i-phone 8 and then for the editing I use i-Movie. The only problem with i-Movie is that it can only be used on apple products. I would like to edit on my windows laptop top but i-Movie isn’t compatible with it. I’m trying to get away with other editing software on the laptop but I struggle. Maybe just need more practice.🤔

How do you dispose of the waste water?

The waste is tipped down the drain and flushed away with running water. If left to cool it forms a gel. Thanks for the input.
