Swallowing is a challenging activity that requires your brain to coordinate numerous muscles. Your ability to swallow will be impacted if the areas of brain responsible for this is injured . Dysphagia is another name for swallowing difficulties.If the swallow is not correct, then food and drink may be getting into your airway and lungs. Saliva can also enter the airway if someone isn’t able to swallow properly, or if they are drowsy and can’t cough. This is called aspiration.
