I love the core of Vedanta because it talks about reality but there are many superficial distractions like previous births and shuttle matter which which takes more attention than the fact that we all are connected.And that's what Science and Vedanta are telling.

The conciousness being talked is real or reflected conciousness.2)If real,it is common to all beings than what about experiences of different beings

Thank you so much, Swami ji! I have a question: why can't samvit / awareness be Many, why does it have to be One? Isn't this axiomatic, saying that consciousness is one?
@duttakunal82
@duttakunal82 7 лет назад
Second question: Sometimes people faint or have "blackouts" - don't these amount to complete absence of experience? We often read in novels, "... the next thing I knew, I woke up in hospital", etc. So where is the memory of being unconscious?
@gameone6597
@gameone6597 7 лет назад
At least in me there's one unchanging awareness, even if it might be different in different people (which is also not different as per the Upan... That's why the question above)! We can say that it is one and unchanging because we are able to compare (distinguish) two experiences! If the awareness also changes with objects you will not be able to distinguish the two experiences. Consider, if there is one awareness when you had a lemonade, and another awareness if when you had an orange juice, then you cannot tell the difference between the two experiences because, the awareness that had lemonade didn't taste the orange juice, and vice versa. But since we can distinguish the two experiences, it must be the same awareness that experienced the two.

If Samvit are many, then question will arise what is in between these many samvit. existence is internsic property of samvit, then what is other thing apart from existence (Samvit). there is nothing apart from existence because if anything apart from existence, it is false.It shows existence is infinite as nothing is apart from it.there is no possibility of 2 infinity as one will limit other. Hence samvit must be one and infinite.

Thanks for your reply! Sorry, my question was a little misleading - I mean samvit between person and person.

22:27 Have to be very careful with language. “That which experienced coffee is samvit”, makes samvit an object- it is something you know of, as that which experienced coffee. It makes samvit something apart from the coffee, and an entity you can posit through its function (gun, गुण)- of knowing. It might be better to say, “the knowing is samvit”. Samvit is not the knower of, nor the knowledge of coffee, but the fact (the act?) of knowing itself. So long as there is the knower-known duality, there isn’t non duality. Consciousness is the convergence of the knower and the known. How is saying, “knowing is samvit” not an objectification? “Saying” itself implies grammatical objectification- whence the Budhha’s silence on the aatma. However, there is the difference between noumena and phenomena. A noumenon is by definition an object. A phenomenon is not. A molecule of water is an object, a whirlpool of water (though objectified, even anthropomorphized, by the mind) is not an object, it is a phenomenon. The object itself is the known. The Guna is the knowledge. No guna, no knowledge of the object. And the mind (the chitchhaya) is where the knowledge is apprehended. In that sense, the mind is the knower. Where is the knowing? The knowing is consciousness. Now, the samvit is beyond being a phenomenon too- since it is by-in-through which you know all phenomena. Knowing is not a guna, since gunas too exist in knowing. An experience is a phenomenon, knowing is knowing, a class of its own. Samvit is, in fact, knowing itself. Samvit is not the “knower of” and it is not the “knowledge of” either. It is the knowing. Known, knowledge, and knowers (gyatr, gyan, gyey) change. The knowing, chitt, is the same. “Knowing” is where the knower and the known become one. (I know there’ll be those who say, “that which experiences coffee” is the definition of a subject. Sure, linguistically. But cognition wise, if you can objectify it, give it a role, then it is an object of your cognition. To have the role or the property of knowing objectifies it. To my contemplation, this is an important point to grasp. However, I respect your disagreement. Please know I do not mean to dis the swami- I have deep reverence for him.)

Then what differentiates your awareness and my awareness ....why ?
@gameone6597
@gameone6597 7 лет назад
Chaitali Mantri yes, i have the same question, but I don't think they are reading these comments
@gameone6597
@gameone6597 7 лет назад
Sai Akkanapragada, yes we can think of it anyway for convenience of understanding, but how do we prove it? Anyway, the question is different. If the same awareness is there between you, me, him, and her why are our experiences different and not shared? If you drink orange juice, all of us should experience it since it is the same awareness. But it doesn't happen. The experience is limited to the awareness associated with that person.
@SuperNil1980
@SuperNil1980 7 лет назад
Awareness is same. like same sun light shows different things in the world according to nature of material of particular things. Similarly consciousness is same unchanging but shines on minds composed of different gunas (satva, Raj, tama) or Consider many buckets in which there is reflection of sun is shining, shows different views of sun according to property of bucket and water. in one bucket, water is very dirty shows different reflection while in bucket with clear water reflection is different, similarly for silent water or moving water in different buckets.difference is in bucket and its water and not in SUN. Same sun is shining on many buckets of water ( You, me are different buckets) please note there is no relationship between sun and the reflection of sun in bucket. We are that sun. all difference is in appearance. and hence false. even all buckets broken there is no change in actual sun (awareness).
