Monier Williams Sanskrit Dictionary notes - "According to native authorities, "Upanishad" means “setting to rest ignorance by revealing the knowledge of the Supreme Spirit."
In this talk, Swami Sarvapriyananda will provide us with an overview of this supreme body of ancient vedic literature which can support us on our ongoing spiritual journey.
The Swami has been the Minister and spiritual leader of the Vedanta Society of New York since January 2017. He joined the Ramakrishna Math in 1994 and received sannyasa in 2004.
He served as an acharya (teacher) of the monastic probationers’ training center at Belur Math, India. He also served in various capacities in different educational institutes of the Ramakrishna Mission in India and as the Assistant Minister of the Vedanta Society of Southern California.

I am so happy to have found this. I discovered The Gospel of Rama Krishna through William James "Varieties of Religious Experience" , which influenced Alcoholics Anonymous . I then found a very old digital copy of the Kathamrita from 1898. I was very moved by this book. Recently I was meditating and thinking of Rama Krishna, as well of some other hindu masters and I discovered this video not realizing at first that this monk is from the Rama Krishna order.

nice to see swamiji... do watch Swamij's who am I -IIT kanpur 2 part video . I m in love with Upnisheda and wisdom given for mankind, all , not confined to anyone...its for all human being to come over sufferings. Swamiji is finest teacher in advait philosophy , wish to see u, meet u, bow to u ,if I visit NY ashram, or Belur math - love and namskaram from Canada.

Interesting that this is being hosted by the Theosophical Society. There is a small section in the Kathamrita where Ramakrishna speaks on Theosophy, I don't remember very accurately what he said, if I find it later and remember I'll edit it into my comment.

Swamiji may be aware that Swami Vivekananda addressed public audiences from the Theosophical Society premises both in the UK and USA . Many Theosophists became Vedantists 🙏

Brahman alone is real, true. But, all else is Brahman alone, and so real. Maya/illusion is a misnomer - most ill-defined, most misinterpreted concept, which can be correctly explained in terms of Quantum Physics, perhaps. There's nothing " unreal " - all is real. All is Brahman 🙏

Some of you have probably received the contents of the message below. Many have heard that man proposes, God disposes. Swami Sumanasananda of Vedanta Society ( as Ramakrishna Mission is called in USA and the West) has extended it as follows: "Man proposes, God disposes; but what God proposes, none can dispose!"

There is the churning of cause and effects(the current of life in which we know). We experience from place to place molding our attributes of being. When the Sea of Brahman is realized, When within is the causal only, Of One Cause is the effulgent Sea of One Brahma, One Universal Consciousness of calming waters within and throughout. Washed is me, Cleansed by the Sea.

BHAGWAT GITA: Bhagwat Gita by Swami Ranganathananda (it comes in 3 volumes) Gudarth Deepika by Madhusudan Saraswati (translated by Swami Gambhirananda) Bhagwat Gita by Swami Chidbhawananda It's better to listen the lectures on Gita by Swami Sarvapriyananda parallely for support.

If you want a more scholarly approach , you can join the lectures by Swami Medhananda Ji . 3. Swami Medhananda ji is also offering verse by verse lectures on Patanjali Yoga Sutras. Swami Vivekananda ji's 130 yr old commentaries for the Yoga sutras are available in the book " Raja Yoga ". 4. If you prefer a more Practical & devotional approach to Bhagawqad Gita & Yoga , follow ISKCON.
