Graciously sent in by Mike over at Swampfox. This Freedom cantilever AR mount is poised to be a much lighter version of the Hostile Engagement mount I review from them awhile ago. While it does manage to be much lighter then its sibling, it still suffers from some tolerancing concerns.

I’ve never used a UTG mount, but their P.O.I. rings are excellent. Made in the USA for $60.

I love those rings. I wish more companies could come out with great products like that for good prices.

This is a great mount. I couldnt get my vortex strike eagle to go back far enough on the vortex sport mount while still having the whole clamp having contact the upper. Now i have a lighter mount and smaller footprint so i can the eye relief i want

I got one of these to save weight on an SPR build. Didn’t want to use the aero lightweight mount and didn’t want to spend over $300 on a mount. I picked up this for about $100 and so far it’s been very solid. Had held zero and torqued properly. It didn’t have any glaring flaws on the finish but I didn’t look for anything either because it’s going to get beat up in use and I will most likely end up rattle canning it anyways. I think if someone wants a budget lightweight option thats not the aero mount this is a very solid options. Especially with the 7075 aluminum and steel inserts.

I quite like my UTG 34mm mounts. I run my Credo and Accupower 1-8 in them. Didn't get it for the price tho, but rather for some mounting requirements on my rifle.

Was totally worth it back when SwampFox had the 40% MIL/LEO discount. They had the best prices when that was considered. Picked up an Arrowhead 1-6 with this mount and it has been very good to me.

It comes to mind your evaluation doesn't (yet) include how these mounts handle recoil. The loose tape fit may negatively affect that. I ha(d) a Viper PST Gen2 5-25 that "slipped" in a mount under recoil, over time, and caused "water tub marks" as it inched backwards every shot. I don't think you can afford a "recoil simulator" like scope companies, or shooting 100's of rounds every mount. But how about some precision machinist rig, like a metal precision 30/34mm cylinder, and a swing-drop metal weight/hammer? May be a neat test rig to make.

C, I think you missed a fairly important aspect of this mount. That is, its ability to run an offset RDS on the upper receiver. SO many 30mm mounts preclude you from running an offset RDS in a good position. Due to the shear footprint and/or the forward support arm being right down on top of the rail (effectively talking up the whole top rail). With A LOT of mounts, you have 2 options to run an offset RDS. #1 Push the mount forward to give yourself enough slots to mount the RDS behind the scope mount. (Which means the red dot will be +- 2 inches from you eye when you roll over and can cause ejection issues on AR platforms) Or #2 Bring the mount as far back as possible and mount the RDS in front of the scope mount. (Which means you'll probably have to mount it on the hand guard. Of course, that brings a whole bunch of questions about rigidity and wandering zero). This mount with its small footprint AND the forward support arm NOT being directly on top of the rail will allow you to mount both the scope mount AND the RDS mount on the upper receiver. IMO best of both words. You cut down in the acquisition issues and reduce the parallax issues you get when the RDS is Super close to your eye, AND you eliminate the rigidity and wandering zero issues of mounting the RDS mount of the handguard........

I wish you would do a durability tests of mounts in specific prices points. The appeal of this mount to me is the 7075 aluminum. Most mounts, even high priced mounts, are made of a much lower quality 6065 or 6061 aluminum. So on paper, this mount should take a dump on most other mounts in terms of abuse. Rezeroability is a negligible spec to look at on permanent mounts, i think you should be looking at how they handle recoil, stress, and taking a hit.

I really like that it comes at a 1.6” centerline height. Wish more 1.6 mounts would be offered - high enough to clear rear sights, slightly more heads up, very usable in the prone. Shameless plug, I had a chance to try this out and posted a video on my channel. I largely agree with your findings, although in my case the machining & anodizing was actually quite nice and even. I personally needed QD, so I switched it for an ADM, thanks to your review.

Can we get some 1.7 to 1.9 inch options that aren't 300 400 bucks? I dont care if its made over seas as long as its made to a nice quality. Ive read reviews on so mny, from geissele to you name it, and what i see is no matter who maies it or where its made, people find something bad about it. Im not spending over 200bucks for a scope mount for my pa slx nova, i just wanna be over 1.5", and i to hold my scope tight and be tough. Swamp fox over aero imo right now. Wish aero would give Bit beefier mount solution and would be sold

I’ve been using one of these for a year now, switching between two different rifles along the way. Is it a high precision mount for long distance shooting? No, of course not. But it’s been durable, holds zero, and is reasonably lightweight.

I used one of these in a pinch while waiting for an American Rifle Company M-Brace mount. I noticed a few things while using this mount. The anodized finish is far from acceptable. The finish was scratched by Wheeler torx bits when I tightened the top caps to secure my scope in the mount. The mount is fairly inexpensive so I wasn't expecting Badger Ordnance or other industry leading finish but I also didn't expect it to scratch from a torx bit coming in contact with it. The tape on the inside of the scope rings was disappointing to see and on top of that, it was applied in a haphazard way that didn't exude confidence in the assembly/finishing process. I used the scope mount on my Bergara BMP-14 chambered in .308 with an EOTech Vudu 5-25 and it held zero and worked for the Guardian Long Range match at Arena Training Facility in November 2022. I sold the mount shortly after the match because my ARC M-Brace was delivered. Overall I think this is an "okay" mount at best and I wouldn't use it for more than a range only use rifle or as a place holder. There are plenty of other mounts like the Aero Ultralite mount and Midwest Industries mount that I think do a better job in the same price range.

Ya except the aero is well known to literally break in half. You're whining about scratched finish, and recommending something that's known to self disassemble. Your advice is suspect at best.

I've picked up the new slx g4 to check the hype, but I do plan on getting the Plx as well. I've been agonizing over the mount. I want to run the new Lead & Steel acro style optic on a 45° offset. It seems the Badger C1 is the easiest for that. Was also looking at the ADM Recon M. Do you have any suggestions? Edit: I get a veteran discount for Badger putting them roughly at the same price as ADM. I couldn't swing the Badger otherwise. So, unfortunately, the reptilia, spuhr, and other $400 mounts, I can't justify.
