Best Swan Lake ever! All dancers and orchestra! Music is overwhelming! After that performance, Gergiev wrote about Lopatkina: “She danced reverently. It seemed like an act of art and act of faith”.
Can't stop watching this sublime performance. I'm a big, burly 62 year old bloke, a builder, but I now can understand a young person yearning to become a dancer. Just recently I was thinking how I liked a few bars from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, here and there, so a week or two ago I was searching to try to find them played at the speed I like, with certain nuances played in the way I like. In my quest I was watching various clips on RU-vid, and then watched a bit of the ballet. I was attracted to the beauty of it all a bit, then a bit more, then the entirety of it. Now, for me the dancing enhances the music such that my enjoyment of the music is doubled, tripled, multiplied. Am wondering if others came here in the same way, at first attracted by the music, but having enjoyed the dancing as well, was now finding it VERY difficult to leave this stunning, incredible work of art to do anything else?
Pure Heavenly. Ulyana Lopatkina is the artistique figure only occurring once a century, her performance will be epitomized in Classique for generations to come.
I think Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” is by far the most beautiful ballet on stage! The girls are always the most beautiful and talented in the performance! The guys are always precision in their performance as well! A job well done! Peter
Grace and Beauty and Strength - the best Swan Lake performance ever. Choreograph and dancers. Bravo to the Russians! Bravo to St. Petersburg! Bravo the the Mariinsky!
I sincerely believe that Russia has far more emotional geniuses per thousand people than any other peoples of the world. Tchaikovsky was Chief Genius, and there are many close behind him. I truly adore the Russians, they are fabulous people. Probably why for much of my life we in the west (I'm British) were deprived of being with them. I hope now that we are all one, the genius of Russians will rub off on the rest of us.
That's exactly what I feel. This performance is indeed the work of a large ensemble of geniuses all pulling together. I know of no other walk of life where human mass endeavour leads to such achievement of perfection. Agree with you 100% Ciao.
My favorite Odette/Odile remains Svetlana Zhakarova with her so light fluidity, finesse, subtlety, artistry, legendary arms, hands for which Baryshnikov picked her out,and extensions.
@Richard J. Lanham - Prince Siegfried is danced by Danila Korsuntsev; Odette/Odile is danced by Ulyana Lopatkina. It was filmed (which the Mariinsky Theatre RARELY does) in 2010. It's available on DVD from Amazon. I hope this answers your question.
There is truly nothing on Earth like Russian ballet. Watch the documentary on RT called Ballet La Russe, you'll see how hard they work to achieve this perfection, how the dancers are gasping for air backstage but still manage to dance so that it looks so effortless. I have so much respect for all ballet dancers, though I've never danced myself...This is the closest a human can come to flying
I have a ballerina friend, quite a beautiful, well known dancer, who had to stop her career. When she went (?) 'en pointe' and would spin on one toe, she would release violent farts, even heard over the orchestra. She would be in tears, but the public would be hysterically laughing. So sad and awful for her.
2:03-3:04 The way that Gergiev did the tempo for this part of the Introduction (more slowly) is very excellent, playing it slower adds a different kind of dramatic buildup from the faster recordings (even though I also like the faster tempos of some other performances).
Just watched Royal Ballet's new production, can't help to watch this again. Well nothing really wrong with the Royal Ballet's version, both Lauren Cuthbertson and William Bracewell are competent dancers. Lauren was robust, William did heavy lifting (although not much solo given), but they did not seem to have the emotional connection as the pair here. Lauren lacks the venerability of Uliana as Odette, although technically very good. I also went to a live performance by Paris Opera Ballet, still, this is the best performance by far.
Mesmerizing and Breathtaking!!💞I'm amazed with the beautiful music and the gorgeous dancers Lopatkina is perfection and so is Siegfried and Von Rothbart!!💝
I was just about to write an enthusiastic reply Cheyenne Dior about getting choked up, when I saw that I had already done so, five years ago, ha ha. Still getting choked up, but now I'm really getting old it's every minute or so through the entire performance.
When my son Benjamin was 10 yrs. Young he said to me, mamma, my favorite ballet is " Swan lake" I used to play it on my baby grand piano. My son Ben is my baby grand. He is 50 present German. 25 percent Irish and 25 percent french Canadian American..he lives in linenburg, Massachusetts I have seen him only once in my 25 yes. I miss him. I hope the truth comes out soon. Parousia . Rozan parquet, ferrante. Too beautifufor words to describe l
There are many Swan Lakes on RU-vid. I literally had to go through 7 of them to find Ulyana. Her name is not in the title & the resolution is poor. That's probably why the views are low. Other videos with her name in the title fetch many more views. Believe me, she is the best Odile/Odette of today, maybe ever. True artist.
I enjoyed this more than the American Ballet Theatre version. I’m more of a Nutcracker fan. But I had to watch because of my familiarity with the story thanks to The Swan Princess! Happy New Year 2024
opening music is top notch 🎶👏 the male dancers are so athletic! the swans outdid themselves. I have CDs of this music and a DVD of the ballet with orchestra and this performance is superb.
It is glorious art, to move in ways that defy one's comprehension of normality, but elevates this level of suggestion, style, projection, easy difficulty, as if gravity had no restraining power. The eternal music of Tschaikovsky always exceeds the boundaries of our standards of reality, above, beyond, afar.
What a position poor Siegfried was in, every beautiful, classy daughter of the crowned heads of Europe and Russia, all assembled for him to take his pick. Sometimes life serves you up lemons.
The ballet is for everyone not just some. Some are born with this appreciation whilst others slowly acquire its taste. The taste for its beauty is available to everyone but only some will try to acquire it. And like those who choose wisely what they eat, so too are those who sit gently at the table of the refined, Will at some point appreciate those virtues of this great art.
The sound quality is excellent - just wish we could get the visuals at a higher quality, more definition. Anyone? Does anyone have this on DVD and can upload it? Thank you! Merry Christmas!
A photo of Lopatkina in Swan Lake is the only performer on the bedroom wall of beloved teacher Luidmila Morkovina. She loves her absolutely. Greetings to all her other students.
I don't know why these male dancers are considered effeminate. Yes some of them are gay but they are in amazing shape and look so good in tights. Beautiful strong thighs & bottoms. Love watching them jump around the stage. They're beautiful. Sorry, had to say it.
Sensational Royal dutch Etc A wedding bouquet of tulips And baby s breath With maple leaves from Canada and four leaf clovers from Ireland At my first and last ballet lesson at 7😜 yes young miss parker said my those were perfect pirouettes.where did you learn how to do that. In my room.
