there's a comic dub series I used to be in love with as a kid called "the Seer" and everytime I looked it up on YT this album would show up, and I was so scared of that image that I would p0repare myself to close my eyes and scroll down just enough so I didnt have to see it and watch my show, and now 8 years later, I am finally starting to listen to this album for the first time

This band has some weird comment sections, i was expecting to meet a bunch of metalheads, stoners, prog listeners and psychedelic dudes in here but no... its a bunch of what seems to be Shakespeare fans and meme kids.

Gosh, the artwork for this album is creepy... I love it!

I do highly recommend buying the albums from the trilogy off of the official store. Its very nicely priced, comes with 3 vinyl, a poster, even a download code, and its signed by Michael Gira. The mastering is really good on it, and its only around 30 USD. Great purchase.

Swans for me have been the soundtrack of the lockdown months. Only now I fully understand their greatness. They do something serious, almost unbearably poignant, aiming at a sort of lay mysticism... Reading Gira's books helped me a lot to get it...

Still it cried, “Sleep no more!” to all the house. “Glamis hath murdered sleep, and therefore Cawdor Shall sleep no more. Macbeth shall sleep no more.”

Lost my shit when I heard this on E3. That’s the second time this song has shown up randomly in something I’ve watched, after Macbeth.

Ok, gonna find out what these swans guys are all about now.

I wanted to look this up on youtube to see some comments just to confirm that this album sounds like a horror film. Listening to any song off of this album while walking home late at night has actually made me more scared than I've been for a long time. The scenarios your mind conjures while listening to these songs is crazy and I would love to see a movie using this album as it's soundtrack

Found them through my favorite band tool. The vocalist of tool states that this is one of the bands that influenced him many years before their band was created. Can see many parallels and influences from them.

Heard this play in a record shop maybe 7 years ago.... couldn't resist to ask what I was hearing eventually, still coming back to it to this day. Glad I was there at the right time to learn this beauty.

For anyone who’s singing with Michael Gira, it is Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker from Low

The build-up is among the very best of Swans, so immersive, intense, that the ending, in my memory was way longer (only 2 mn in fact), but it may be because I've gotten used to 23 mn long pieces, so a short 6 mn song plays whith my relation to time (how I'd love a way longer version of Lunacy!). But again, the repetition of "the Childhood is over..." gets heavier in meaning, darker at each occurence... "a perfect ten across the border", as one would say. I often make parallels between the mystic poetics of Coil, early PTV and of course Throbbing Gristle, not for the sound, but for the general delightful uneasiness one can find especially in Coil's Musick to play in the Dark or the live version of Black Antlers (on Sellvaggina), with Jonn Balance repeating "where is your child ? Do you know where they are ?They're nowhere to be found..." (yes, I'm sensitive, I know, but it's enough to give me the shivers!) But there would be way more parallels to make. Another time, another place. Are you shivering ? Are you Cold ? Are you bathed in Silver, or drowned in Gold

Godspeed Swans and Neurosis top 3 bands since the 70s

I remember a friend and I was were getting baked as fuck, and in New Zealand you don't really get strains, but sometimes you can find some great buds. Anyways, we had just finished and he put this on, for what felt like an eternity. When that weird moaning/guitar dark tunnel thing started happening, I was fucking terrified. The point is; DO NOT listen to Swans when you're on any drugs, you're gonna have a bad time.

Gira is the true poet of our time.

swans produces more than music, to call this music is limiting it by what we now refer to as music. This is an experience informed by the intensity of the experience of death and existence itself. While music may not be good enough to fully bring on this experience, it starts to scratch the surface of what could be beyond our daily experiences.

Getting The Glowing Man and Filth on vinyl today so I’m listening to this and To Be Kind so when I get home I can finish the trilogy. I also made sure not to listen to The Glowing Man or Filth for the entirety of this week so the albums will sound fresh in my mind

I always thought great and experimental music can't come out of america. I didn't know why, but all good prog bands and even gothic rock came all from england. However, Swans proved me wrong, and I'm glad they did. I also buy music when I like it - it's great to make playlists and all that, but to put on a CD and lean back and listen while drinking coffee or something like this is much better. And I can only do this with physical copies of music. Since most of the music I like isn't mainstream and therefore not available at local flea markets I have to buy them online - which costs money, of course. But I don't blame anybody for this. Artists want to live from their art, that's normal and understandable. It just means it takes longer to buy myself a collection together, but I already have the Seer (which I found on youtube!). Already ordered "White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity"...and I'm again saving money for "The Glowing Man". I don't know, I just wanted to write that.
