Completely upgrade the bench seat in your old square body chevy with a modern 60/40 split that can be found in most auto body scrap yards for under $200.
Use brand new sliders to get modern controls, smooth action, and solid construction. Avoid trying to find (and pay for) old rails that are more expensive than the new ones!

Great video. I have an 84 k20 that I'm going to probably put similiar seats in. Thanks for posting the link to the seat brackets

We are thrilled with them. Much more comfortable than the bench. Good luck with yours!

I've been trying to figure out what seats to go with in the one I'm building. I think I'm going to go try to find a set of these seats now. Thank you.

I've watched about 30-40 videos in search of this. Seems like the later squarebody trucks dont have the hump under the seat. I have a 74 and want to convert to newer buckets. I've also seen a couple reuse the old slide but I much prefer the universal ones you have. Very clean and simple looking outcome! Although I'm sure the process wasn't simple. Going to try to replicate this. Thanks!

Good luck with it. It's really not bad, just think it through and take your time. The end result is awesome.

I've been at a standstill on my truck because if this exact project. I love your method of using flat stock strips and bending yourself. I'll make a trip to ace/depot, I'd be guessing but did you use 1/8" aluminum? Or would be best in steel? I've gotta get the material in order but because of your video I am back to excited about tackling this!

Glad to hear it was helpful to you! I used steel, mainly because I don't have a way to weld aluminum. 1/8 x 1" mostly, with some 1/8 x 1/4 to add rigidity on the cross members. The spacers are 1" square aluminum tube.

What did you do for seat belts?

The original seat belts would work fine, but ours were in bad shape, so we bought some from LMC - www.lmctruck.com/1973-87-chevy-gmc/seat-belts/cc-1973-87-3-point-retractable-seat-belt-kit-and-seat-belt-extender

What a gigantic waste of time. Strip the old seat to the frame and use the lower half mount what you want to the top of it.

Thanks for your perspective. If you want a bench seat, then that approach would probably be fine. However: 1) I didn't want a bench seat; 2) The sliding mechanism in the original frame was not good, so reusing it would have been a "gigantic waste of time."
