We are installing the first swarm caught this year at John's farm into a Layens horizontal hive (the Big Bee hive) in our yard in Apex.
We are practicing natural beekeeping methods using Layens horizontal hives that we built ourselves. To get a copy of the plans that we downloaded for free and used to build our swarm boxes, frames, horizontal hives and insulated horizontal hives, click here: horizontalhive...

Looks good. Bees first, honey later. When that next generation emerges I think you will have plenty of honey.

There is lots of stuff blooming around us now, so they have plenty of food available. We'll see what it looks like when we go back into the hive in about a month or so.

Yes, the bees this lovely couple brought for me were very mellow. I prefer to believe that they some how knew I’d been waiting for them and that I would never intentionally bring them any harm. Haha.

I'm sure that was the reason they were so mellow. Ha ha! Our girls settled down by the next day, and they are going about their bee business. Thanks for watching, Pat!

Another beautiful day in North Carolina. Ladies are ready to protect the hive, they were attacking that mic from minute one. I am worried about my neighborhood here near Knoxville, lots of blooms for a month, but not a single bees of any type.

They really were all over Roy's mic. They have calmed down now and are just going about their honeybee business these days. It is really troubling that you're not seeing ANY bees in your neighborhood. With everything blooming this Spring, they should be everywhere. Hopefully they'll show up soon. Keep us posted.

Are you able to take out the original audio during the sped up part and lay down some music instead of the high speed original audio? Just a suggestion. I'm still waiting on swarm season to begin in MO.

I was thinking the same thing. Either a voice over or some music as that squealing noise is mildly irritating 😂

Hopefully they come down. I have an aggressive hive but it’s out in the middle of nowhere but with your closer neighbors you might have to requeen.

Thanks for the suggestion. I need to work on my editing skills and figure out how to do that. And thanks for watching us from MO. Hopefully Spring is near for you guys, too.

I found it really annoying while I was editing this one. I cut the volume level down, but it was still irritating. I need to work on my editing skills and figure out how to do voice-overs.
