BORO PARK -- Brooklyn lawmakers are vowing to find those responsible after six swastikas were found painted on multiple locations, including a school and van, in Borough Park Friday morning.
The first swastika was found by a resident painted on a synagogue on 16th Avenue, according to Assemblyman Dov Hikind. Five others were soon discovered in other parts of the neighborhood.
"This isn't about graffiti, this is about hate," Hikind told 1010 WINS. "That swastika represents that ultimate symbol of hate and whenever you see one, it's obviously something that hurts everybody and we just hope they apprehend the people responsible for this."
Councilman David Greenfield is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
"Once again, we find ourselves under attack from individuals who think nothing of spreading hate and fear throughout the community. This is absolutely unacceptable, especially in an area that is home to so many Holocaust survivors," Greenfield said in a statement. "Rest assured, I will work with the NYPD until those responsible for this horrific crime are caught and held responsible."
Greenfield said he has reviewed surveillance video from one of the businesses that was targeted. Both Greenfield and Hikind said they have talked with police and residents.
