Despite COVID and restrictions this years SWAT was a truly enjoyable and inspiring event. Despite having tickets for all 3 days Dad and I decided to make it a Saturday only event and focus on the vendor area and Pop Up Art Gallery. My pocketbook got walloped and my idea folder got filled.
So if you weren't able to make it this year I hope you enjoy my ramblings.

Looking at those pieces in the gallery is quite humbling. So much to learn and so many techniques to master. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the video! I am glad you liked my walnut box with the cherry inset (6:56). The piece of cherry was the scrap from where I cutout the opening in the top of a PVC Beads of Courage box. I hate wasting wood so I started using those cutouts in my boxes.

Thanks Shawn for highlighting my two trembleurs. I really enjoy the challenge of turning these without breaking them. Great video summary of the Art Gallery. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Paul Mugridge

Do you think you can make a video on making that box? I wish I lived down there so I could go; it seems very interesting.

The brass inlays on that bowl at 19:25 must be 'knife handle mosaic pins'. You can buy them.

18:30 My guess is sandblasting the piece, then the softer wood is removed.

Or wirebrushing. Did this with some stairposts in my house and it worked real fine. Bit of sanding afterwards and off you go...

Wow, what a display of wood, tools, supplies & creative artists! Wow! I too liked that last box you showed. Maybe time for a tutorial on that one. Tks for the tour. Wonder if there are any upcoming woodworkers shows like this in the DELMARVA area.?

Shawn, thanks for the nice comments on a couple of my pieces. The large ash bowl is ground sodalite and the metal inlays are mosaic pins (usually used for a decorative accent on hand made knifes). Been watching a lot of Jim Sprague's videos on rim inlays and wanted to add my own twist to his approach. The cherry square box was one my first projects when I decided to tackle end-grain hollowing. Glad you like it. Keep up the good work sharing our craft with others!

I was registered for the three days but my plans got changed and I didn't get to go. I was looking forward to meeting Ken of Wood Turners Wonders as well as Mr. Thompson. Would have been nice to be there when it's not so crowded. Thanks for showing us the gallery

Loads of interesting projects. Strange to see it so quiet but It's a great event to see new ideas to develop or apply your own interpretation (not steal). Intrigued to see the Lichtenberg wood burner. I have one that I made here in the UK, but I thought that they had been banned by some, can't recall which, USA woodworking associations. Thanks for the tour.

@@wortheffort wow! Ive been watching you for years & always had a high opinion of you. I gave a helpful advice. And you responded like an epic asshole. So maybe i wont be watching anymore. And no paning around rapidly on stuff is not a "common feature" in your videos.
@wortheffort
@wortheffort 3 года назад
@@backwoodsbaby9729 Next time learn to phrase constructive criticism as that instead of teenage insult of work. "OMG, sick, torture, asshole....." are not the words of mature conversation. I wouldn't put up with that behavior in a classroom. Notice my prior responses didn't have any personal jabs? Don't see why I have to put up with it here. And yes montages are common in my none educational stuff. Did it in the video right before this one too. I don't speed up video, I montage it, with quick cuts sometimes timed to fast music. Reduces video time as much as possible. Triples my editing work. "Stretching clips out would be better" is constructive criticism. "you made me sick"/torture ain't.

Shawn, is is best not to handle other people’s work, set an example for others by not touching the art work. Please look with your eyes.
@arachinsect
@arachinsect 3 года назад
There is a separate section in the SWAT gallery for pieces that should not be touched. All the regular pieces can be touched and most woodturners at SWAT don't mind having their pieces examined (carefully of course) and admired.
