I believe DS bought a 15 yr supply around 2015 when the pigment was discontinued…so we have about 6-7 yrs left.

Thanks so much for the information! I'm going to pin your comment. Still good to know no one needs to panic buy. I've noticed many companies have already changed their Quin. Gold formulations to a hue now.

They're all beautiful watercolors. I absolutely love DS's Quin Burnt Orange. I have that same 3 tube set and bought it because of that color in particular. I liked that last color combo you made, but with that tube costing $20 for 5 ML, that is way too expensive to make a color you may not like very well and wipe up with a paper towel.

Yes, I ordered quick without realizing they had changed it. They still offer their original Quin Gold only in full pan at Jackson's. You might try it out the next time they have a sale. 💗

That original quin gold compared to quin gold hue is such a difference! And those Isaro paints are a new favourite for me - they are gorgeous! I wouldn't bother with the yintinco though!

Thanks, Helen! I agree 100%, but maybe I used more paint of one color or something? Yes, I was a bit disappointed in the YinTinCo. I've poured it in a full pan to try mixing with it... I hope to find a magical mixes, but I will probably just use a Magenta. I do love the Isaro paints, they have some special colors! 💗

The Roman Szmal and Isaro purples are both so much prettier than the Daniel Smith one in this case. I do like that YlnTiCo Red, but the price is a bit crazy. I do love the original Quin. Gold more than the Hue.

Thanks, Miranda! Yes, I thought so too! I'm surprised, I was expecting to like the Schmincke YlnTiCo Red more. At least I didn't feel I needed to fight with it, like Volcano Yellow. Haha, apparently I'm the only person who doesn't like that either?!? Yes, I kind of wanted to cry after swatching that...another lovely shade going away! 💗

Stephanie, great video, thanks for sharing. I think that that super hyped paint from Schmincke is pronounced like “Inn Tee Co”, no big deal. It might seem a little intimidating because of the price, very much like its older brother YInMn Blue (“Inn Meen Blue”), but they do not have superpowers!! 😂 Keep up the good work of sharing your goodies with us all, you’re doing great ! 😊

Thanks so much for the info! I'm afraid I still don't understand the hype about YlnMn Blue either? I understand it is a rare pigment, but other than that I'm not sure?!? I have it in A Gallo, and it's very pretty...but not $40 pretty IMHO. I'm really glad it came in the palatte I purchased. Lol I read the info on Schmincke's Instagram, but yes...they do not have superpowers. Lol I will enjoy adding a granulating magenta in my granulating palette. I'm going to pour a full pan so I can enjoy playing and mixing with it! Thanks so much for the sweet comment! 💗

@@TheGypsyChic1 it’s a new pigment and it excites people because it’s new technology and it granulates and flocculates. The problem with it seems to be that it dries to the point is really difficult to rewet in the palette or pan. I think when people are pigment nerds or similar and like trying something limited edition (it is very hard to find YInMn Blue and when it’s there, it’s expensive so most people won’t buy it) so it looks super cool to have it, even if it’s not that special or really impressive. I bought PO49 from a store to see the hype and it wasn’t that impressive, in my opinion, for people to go bonkers over it leaving. Especially when it doesn’t lend to their style. I don’t know what else/

I think yintico is only fun for mixing, because pretty much as you said it's really dull 😅 Loved isaro's purple I love how deep it can get 😍

The more I look at the Isaro purple deep the more I want! The Roman Szmal potter's pink is nice but not as lovely as the Winsor and newton!

Yes, I love the Isaro purple deep, and Norman Green. Yes, the Roman Szmal is nice but not quite as pigmented as W&N or Schmincke. So, you are safe from needing that one. ;D

I love Roman Szmal PO48. I purchased two full pans. It’s tempting to buy a tube of Daniel Smith PO48. I’m not sure what I’m going to do ☺️! EDIT It’s probably best to wait until I’ve used up one pan. Hmmmmm. 🤷🏻‍♀️😀

I will be buying a few more full pans from Roman Szmal, when they are back in stock. I may not need them, but as affordable as they are...in five years I think I will be happy I did. Lol But, Daniel Smith basically said they bought up the rest of the pigment. I think that is why no other brands have it now. ;( Daniel Smith apparently bought enough for 15 years. I think Eve Bolt made a video that talks about it, and I'm sure others have too. But, I don't think you need to worry about the Daniel smith going away yet.💗

The original quin gold is PO49 😀. I have the DS quin gold (hue) but it’s called quin gold, and it’s too yellow for my liking. When I was a pigment newbie I thought it was the original quin gold that everyone loves. So when I bought the DS quin gold (hue) it was so yellow and I was stumped because it wasn’t special to me. Then I realized I have the hue LOL 😅! EDIT fun video thank you! ❤

Yes, thanks for adding the helpful information! Yes, I actually thought about sharing my original PO49 Quin Gold from Daniel Smith. But, I didn't want to leave anyone heartbroken since it is unavailable! I treasure my last two and a half tubes. Did you every try the original to compare to the Hue from DS? I think the PO48 version is the next best thing, and I'm a bit sad that it is already unavailable from Sennelier, and Schmincke etc. They've already switched to a new formula. I'm very glad I already own the old version. I was excited when I saw the new half pans on sale at Jackson's several months ago...so I added my favorite RS colors to my cart, without checking the pigments. Five years into watercolors, and I still make that mistake sometimes! Lol Hopefully, others can learn from my mistake and grab the good Quin. Gold from Roman Szmal before it is gone, too! :(

@@TheGypsyChic1 it would be a fun comparison to see all the Quin gold hues and the original Quin gold PO49. Unfortunately for me I restarted my watercolor journey a few years too late to be able to enjoy the original Quin gold. I have seen it in a painting and it’s a lovely color that isn’t yellow leaning. Treasure your original Quin golds they are rare! There is a store in the US that sells PO49 as a dry pigment. I have been tempted to buy it as a souvenir or just in case one day I decide to make my own Quin gold watercolor!

That would be a fun video! I bet someone like Oto Kano made one already? I really don't like to share things people can't purchase anymore. I'm afraid it might tempt someone to overpay on eBay. I've been tempted to do that myself before, when I see old supplies that were made before I discovered art supplies. Lol Yes, I do treasure the original PO49! I'm so thankful I discovered watercolors right before it ran out. Denise Soden made a beautiful video about it going away, or I would have never known it was going away. It is just gorgeous, but not worth over paying for. But, if you are on IG send me a message with your address! Oh wow, that would be tempting to own the pigment! 💗

@@TheGypsyChic1 that’s true, someone probably has already made a comparison video. You’re right making a comparison video now might make someone overpay for the real deal. I won’t overpay for vintage or discontinued art supplies but I am curious 😝! There is an Italian artist on YT who recently purchased a half pan from an Italian watercolor paint maker (not A. Gallo). The paint maker had purchased some PO49 from a US-based supplier (it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s the same shop that I saw it). The paint maker made some half pans and they sold out in a flash. Ha, I would have fallen for that when I was new for sure! I'm always worried about newbies, if they fall as hard for art supplies as I did. ;D I have been looking for a vintage set of the Caran D'ache Neocolor II's in excellent condition. I won't overpay much, but I would love to find that original case someday. Haha, I know in my head it is so silly...but I would still purchase it if I got the chance. Yes, I'm always curious as well! That is part of the fun to me... Oh, I bet the PO49 is lovely! I've been tempted to get a few of my favorite pigments, just in case. But, I'm trying not to go down that rabbit hole just yet. LOL Let me know if you do decide to try the pigment, and how you like it. I think that would be a great way to have a side hustle if someone had the extra time! Oh, too bad...I would love to be friends with you and see your artwork on IG. Edit: I try not to be on IG too much myself though, so I completely understand! 💗

I just don’t care about technological advances that aren’t going to magically improve my life. It’s a $20 for 5ml? I wouldn’t even buy my favorite paints for that price. That’s just ridiculous and the people who buy it, that’s good on them, but sheesh.

Thank you, I agree sadly...even though I love Schmincke! I was lucky to be able to use affiliate rewards try it. I like to use my rewards to help see if products are worth it for others. I know some people will love it, but it's not worth it to me at all. Thanks for letting me know you agree.
