Sway bar bushing replacement - easy job, made to look difficult

Our 2003 Mitsubishi L200 pickup needs some love and attention, with bags of enthusiasm, but little talent, let’s see if these are home mechanic jobs or are we as incompetent as we think we are :)
It is taken off road, but the shocks, leaf springs and other bits are looking tired and as we love “Murdock” Mitsubishi, we want to do it ourselves, plus, we will literally save over a thousand euros in garage costs.
Let us show you how easy or hard these tasks are to perform, warts and all! - if we can do it, you can too, you can, we even make the easy ones tough!!
It’s new shocks and leaf spring time, so new Terrafirma shocks will be fitted, Milner Leaf Springs to complete that overhaul - the old dampers were "shocking" or totally knackered is a more correct term!
The centre prop shaft bearing as given up, so the prop shaft is coming off, so all the joints will be removed and replaced as we have gone in that far anyway - not all goes quite to plan, the signs of problems were there, we clearly ignored them and suffer the consequences.
Some tasty orange polyurethane bushings will give the sway bar a new lease of life and whilst we are at it, the brakes look awful, so full calliper rebuild will happen after a sandblast and powder coat.
The bushing are so simple to replace, only two idiots could struggle - you know what happens !
Quite a few of the removed parts do not cut the mustard, so they get the choice of sandblast and powder coat - Hammerite or Raptor - so see all three processes in action.
We discover other issues and maybe more as we dive in to this project.
Once the outside is done, some vinyl wrap on the dash, new stereo and a dam good detail with transform the old interior.
Road testing before and after will show if the new shocks really perform and if these new parts were worth bothering to do.
Finally after a little off roading to test - a paint detail to clear some (doubt all) of the many scratches from dragging Murdock through trees and bushes.
Subscribe, as we want you to join this journey, advice gratefully received and criticism digested over coffee.
Remember, we are not mechanics, nor do we pretend to be - so most of this is a first try for us, so you will see genuinely how tough or easy these jobs really are.
You must love the tunes - so make sure to check out “Death Of Guitar Pop” for some awesome music!

I'm planning on doing these on my Shogun Sport. Looks pretty much identical, barring the immaculate state of your underbody.
@DrivenMadShow
@DrivenMadShow 2 года назад
I assume that's the truck, not me 😱 my underbodys is not a pretty sight ! the sport (do not hold me to this) is identical - same vehicle bar pickup or full cabin - its not so good under now, the plates are well smashed, have some sexy ones to go on soon, Nath is off touring Spain & France for a while, will sort once he is back.

Hey mates. Got a 06 l200 myself. I think my sway bar is hitting my lower control arm and i wanna take it out. Would that affect the truck in anyway?

Oh - we are not qualified to give any advice - but post that on facebook.com/groups/mitsubishil200ownersclub they will take the rise and offer advice in equal measures :)

Appreciate it. So cutting bushing is ok?
@DrivenMadShow
@DrivenMadShow 11 месяцев назад
Yes, we did not like the cut to be honest, but the factory ones were surprisingly cut as well on ours … the instructions we got were to cut, so we did .. it’s a couple of years ago, done 30000 plus, many off road, no issues to report 🥳

what kind of Aircraft lliquid do you use to inhibit and stop rust???

I use ACF 50 - loads of videos out there and info (it is also OK on plastic etc - an amazing product to be honest )

Thanks for the reply, I'll definitely look into it... I am driving a 2008 Mitsu Pajero Sport, probably one of the last K97' build in Japan, with the 2.8l tdi 4m40 in Colombia, South America and really enjoy your series😏

As it appears, I have used the sister product ' Corrosion Block ' in Marine Applications with astonishing positive results in the harsh Caribbean Saltwater environment. Never thought using it on tha car though.

What paint did you use for tidying this truck up.
@DrivenMadShow
@DrivenMadShow 2 года назад
We only painted one part underneath, the silver link rod, which we did in Hammerite, the side steps we sprayed in raptor bed liner (it's not that great, they are well scuffed up now) everything else is really clean rust wise - the local dust here in the Algarve is orange, so we panic that's something is rusty and it's just dirt - so I spent two days washing and then wiping on ACF50 on all the unseen bits, which (if I say so myself :) ) made it look really good - unfortunately that only lasted 48 hours and it was filthy again - but once you have used ACF it cleans a lot easier.

I must also admit there were one or two portuguese words which left me wondering what they meant - were they possibly French words as in 'Excuse my french'?
