I woke up early, partly due to to the severity of the walk ahead of me but also due to the wildlife that didn't seem to have a snooze button. The walk started off with a steep climb out of Salcombe Mouth but I was rewarded with one of the best view points/bench's I can remember for many miles, looking down onto Weston Mouth. A pleasant walk through Dunscombe Coppice followed, with wild garlic as far as the eye can see looking and smelling beautiful. As I cleared the woodland, my next climb loomed ahead of me, Weston Cliff, but it got worse before it got better, having to descend steps to sea level at Weston Mouth before heading straight back up. Some easier walking along fields gave me a chance to recover before walking though another wild garlic carpeted woodland on the descent into Branscombe Mouth. I reached the Sea Shanty cafe and I decided to stop here for some breakfast. After finishing my breakfast I was faced with East Cliff which was not as bad as I had expected with the path only climbing part way up before continuing as a mid cliff path, the sting in its tail came a mile or so later when I had to climb to the top. I continued along more farmland clifftops before descending into Beer. A short walk on from Beer I reached a sign which indicated if the tide was out I could walk along the beach to Seaton, otherwise an inland alternative is available. I sat down at Seaton psyching myself for the upcoming Undercliffs. I had been looking forward to this part of the path, but I was starting to feel the effects of the earlier hills and sun. Moving on from Seaton I climbed the steep road up and over Axe Cliff Golf Course which gave way to farmland before entering the Undercliffs. The trees provided me with some welcome relief from the sun. Not only did I love this section for the shade it gave, but also the dense vegetation, the trees, the ferns, the grasses, the rock formations in the cliff face, the bird song, the lack of people. It was unique, it was claustrophobic, it had a lack of sea views, but it was enjoyable. I welcomed the end though as I was very hot and tired by this point. A short walk down through Cobb and I was in Lyme Regis eating fish and chips. A long, hot, hilly day, exactly how I like it.

Cracking video Paul. I could almost smell the wid garlic as you made your way through the beautiful woodland. I did exactly the same walk on my SWCP trail two years ago - although I didn't do all the filming and walk throughs that you have so paintakingly done for your viewers! Very much appreciated though - and what a beautiful day you had. I was knackered when I reached Lyme Regis and had nowhere to stay so retraced my steps back up to the meadow immediately after the undercliffs and nervously set up my tent there for the night. Thought I might get kicked off but the local dog walkers were very friendly and welcoming. Thanks again and looking forward to Golden Cap 👌

I love walking at this time of year with all the wild flowers and garlic putting on a display. I remember the meadow you are talking about. I sat there on a bench and called ahead to my campsite to check they had room for a hiker. Thankfully they did or else I would have done the same as you and camped in that field.

Awesome Paul! I literally ate a salad made of those wild garlic leaves this evening, picked during a walk through Plymbridge Woods. I've only done a few bits of that walk, looks great, looking forward to doing it myself. Golden Cap is awesome! Enjoy tomorrow!

Ah great, I bet that was nice. All of East Devon and into the early stages of Dorset were really good coastal walking. Big hills and epic views.

Impressed with your pace over those Devon hills of my youth. When I visited Branscombe back just before Covid to see my old mum in Sidmouth,a cargo vessel had run aground off Branscombe beach and lots of containers had washed up on the beach.the place was packed with people putting tv,'s boxes of goods in the back of their cars.Looks peaceful on your walk 😅

Ah yes that was a beautiful spot. I had not been there before, but it was a lovely morning and the breakfast was very tasty at the cafe.

There are certain points along the coast that I will return to in the future to spend more time enjoying. Golden Cap is one of them. Some great views from the top.

Well that was just as spectacular as I knew it would be. Like you, I am eagerly looking forward to the Undercliffs, especially after the landslide earlier this year threatened to close that section for good. Thank you for recording it so magnificently ... but we expect nothing less from you.

That’s what I like when watching other peoples videos, we all have our own experiences and thoughts and each persons take on a section will differ.

Great again. I hopefully will be doing Plymouth to Poole this summer so these vids are a great reminders of what's to come. I think maybe the undercliffs are not so enjoyable when wet and muddy - you and I both did it in the dry, maybe it's harder to love when you're up to your knees in mud!

Ah yes that is very true. The same can be said about all of the path. Weather, energy, your mood, all contribute to your enjoyment or lack of a particular walk.

@pilgrimpaul7798 True. I really had to find a way of turning the negatives into positives and enjoy the slog and the grind when they happened, otherwise I would never gave got round
