I’ve come to think of it as a seasonal activity they forgot to take out of the game, and then pretend was a new core playlist activities to cover up their mistake. It fits how they’ve treated/managed it.
I think somebody said this, maybe Skarrow9 - if Bungie makes a whole new game, then either pretty much all of the content they’ve ever made for Destiny needs to be in it off-rip, or literally none of it should be and everything should be new, and they should refrain from re-adding that content as much as possible. I’d prefer that Destiny 3 not release and have them just slowly add old d2 stuff into like how they’ve been adding d1 stuff into d2 for years now.
d3 needs to be either a completely new game no reissues no reprisals form d1 or d2, or everything from destiny 1 and 2 ported forward into d3 along with new things. theres no middle ground here
I could see it being us going elsewhere. Like the cabal home planet and such, and we obv lose everything excluding some stuff with the nine. Gives it a good lore reason.
Unlike borderlands where getting a legendary feels amazing everytime seeing that gold orange glown..destiny 2 its just “oh another one, time to dismantle”.
@@zeroghost115 lol its been in development. It's been confirmed by leaks (which were all true about Final Shape) and this D2 livestream today implies a 2026 release.
@@zeroghost115 He said in the Final Shape dev preview that D2 isn't going anywhere. Even more so confirmed this week with them having "D2" right next to Frontiers in this week's video. People who think D3 is coming out are coping, hard.
Very well put together video, I really appreciate it when creators like yourself care enough to critique the game like this. We critique it because it’s something we love and we want it to improve
The problem with the sun setting in beyond light Was that it was part of the story that you can no longer revisit along with the fact that all the seasonal content didn't stick around either. So in Destiny 1 I could go back and play from the very beginning of the game all the way to rise of iron and play the entire story. You can't do that in Destiny 2.
It’s so odd to me. I keep seeing “if they make a D3 let me keep my loot” “let me keep my micro transactions” and so on. What’s the point of a D3 then? Why would they make a “new” game just to let me carry your stuff over anyways. In my opinion D3 needs to be brand new. A fresh restart. Keep D2 as it is, same as D1, but give us new. New story, characters, maybe returning characters, new strikes, PVP raids etc. I know Destiny players don’t want to lose their stuff but we are getting to the point that it’s either make D3 or just keep updating D2 for years to come (like WOW). As someone who has played since Dark Below and loves to play hardcore, I want a D3 and that fresh start. And a more hardcore approach. Less “player friendly” for lack of a better word. That’s just my personal wants and I don’t expect it to happen. But that’s my D3 wish list. And more of course. I’m curious what others think as most of what I read in CB’s comments I’m on the outs. Would love to hear what you all have to say!
Making an entirely new game would be bad if all of our stuff didn’t transfer over cuz story wise us fighting the witness n whatever threat is after that n losing all of our guns is just bad. All of the exotics legendary guns, cosmetics being gone mean they will have to make completely brand new ones n it is not possible for them to give us the options we have now on a new game release. There will be a destiny 3 but it will continue in destiny 2 n there will be an engine upgrade cuz after TFS there will be a drought of big dlcs for a while n during that time they will work on a new engine to support bigger ideas and making an entirely new game on top of destiny 2 n the game will not be available on ps4 n Xbox one. Only current gen consoles so they won’t be restricted to old gen limitations. That’ll be the best of both worlds n we need an entire new journey out of the solar system
Less player friendly is a must, talking with the people I play with and we are all the super dedicated player base that does everything dropped from master raids to farming out every red border, amd what made destiny 1 special what the rush of finally being able to complete something you worked to complete for ages. Destiny 1 had far more severe content droughts and yet kept players intrigued for far longer and consistently playing more. Taking years to get all exotics when they were rare enough to be exciting to get compared to a do this quest get immediately.... the last random drop exotic in d2 is Montecarlo which was out in shadowkeep which is sad and there is no struggle anymore back then people took ages to finally get whisper because it was brutal compared to now. D1 raid ships where locked to rng from master clears not just do a master boss and get ship
That's not really the thing that will ruin d3 if it happens, they just have to make it like old d2 and support it with updates, idc if it's an exact copy of d2 with a different story, i just want an excuse to get back to this game man , I want it to be alive again,i missed doing raids with the boys , there's actually alot of things that you can add into it like more abilities or more depth into the class abilities customizations, make a whole f ing skill tree or something idk😂 bringing back the old d2 hype is something i really want to see again
Does COD let you keep your stuff in the next game? No Did Destiny 1? No Has any game ever? No. It will never happen you chose to spend the money in D2, it stays in D2. D3 would be a completely separate game.
D3 should have been a thing the moment that they decided that they needed to sunset entire storylines of the game, leaving new and returning players with no way of experiencing the events or accessing dlcs they may have paid for previously. I understanding cyling weapons in and out periodically but if you have to remove entire portions of your game, especially paid dlc, your doing something wrong.
If they make a d3, they should try and add back all old content to d2 if they can and make one final dlc to cap it off so then the whole game and its content is playable like d1 is and it should satisfy those who would want to play old content while allowing those who want to play d3 can gracefully bow out, and they can make the old content like campaigns into downloadable packs that you can install and uninstall so then you can play the content while being able to keep space down
I’m a D1 vet with like 7K+ hours into it…. You know what I did with D2 when I got bored and burned out? Took a 2yr hiatus… bought the content and just started playing it again… now I have TONS to do. Things look new to me again and not to mention the mods and the builds now. Back then when I played, only light level and a certain weapon for a certain damage phase for a raid boss mattered. Now there’s a whole new experience opened up to me. I’m glad I took that break. Lol.
i want the excitement back in a new DLC and a going for a secret exotic quest, i remember getting home from school and watching The Warmind DLC Trailer and being super excited to play it and see what there is and the secrets that are out there in the DLC, going for Sleeper, Polaris Lance and Worldline Zero... it just hit different then how it does now. I'm extremely excited for Final Shape because it reminds me of those older DLC's that were incredible and i feel like they know what they have to do this time, however i now still think it would be best for Destiny 3 to happen, we just need as fresh as a start with Destiny as we can get with having a new game in the franchise... and just hope the upper management doesn't kill the franchise more than it sounds like they already have
D3 better be an actual W complete ass game. Sony better take control over these execs and let the devs prove that they actually want to make a game and not a scheme. Be pro consumer , make people actually wanna play the game cause the game is undisputedly good and not cause they scheme fomo
Destiny 3 should come in about 2 years, Just hope bungie doesn't make the same mistake bringing back d1 weapons, I want new exciting powerful alien weapons with awesome sounds.
It’s not slated to be released until 2030 from what I saw. Destiny 2 got repetitive after Sunsetting and then bringing the weapons back in Brave form and having to regrind for roles. I doubt codename Payback/D3 will even make it if they don’t change stuff dramatically.
I remember working to get my thorn in d1 I remember finding a dude to get it with cause we needed to be in the same step in the quest I believe it was where we fought the big ogre on the moon. It was hard timing wise because I’m from California and he is from Spain. We had to have attempted that boss damn near 40+ times cause our 3 person would always just give up but when you got it omg it was such amazing feeling. So much hard work and the pay off was sooo worth it.
I don't think crafting is killing the game, what is killing the game is the genre. Looter shooter are inherently hard to do because because of the constant balance issues. Destiny is at its best when we do get that power fantasy. And its at its worst when in the name of "balance" they make content, activities, weapons, abilities, useless through nerfs, or changing fundamental aspects of the game. I.E. look at Titan's and shoulder charges, sunspots etc. it isn't just content that's sunset or removed. It is also when you the player are told to play in a specific way, the "meta" way. Weapon crafting is so very limited right now n how many weapons are craft able, the HAVE to be either really good, or no one is going to use them. Which is the exact same problem with static rolled weapons, and yes, even random roll weapons. Otherwise every hand cannon would be equal in terms of use, same for every other weapon type and their respective archetypes. Same can be said about class/subclass abilities. Even with 3.0, despite have supposedly more build crafting potential, because of some horrendous nerfs, some abilities are just dead. While others are more meta than ever.
The crux of the issue was that it was due to memory storage issues that they had to vault most of the content. This was due to console storage limitations and download size. What they should have done is made destinations free dlc so those who want to play the old content or want to have full access to the entirety of destiny, can download that stuff.
I literally cried when i got my first twilight garry it took me like at least 7 chest exotics they were an accomplishment to get in d1. we loved that grind and the challenge it made it fun now people complain and they have to make it easier for the less skilled people. dont mean it in a bad way its just the truth
Same story, the feel of getting twilight was insane, I remember when I alway was farming(thanks to xur cookies) for exotics and prayed to get chest engram, and like after 4 months, I managed to get the twilight, not only I was happy to get one, but i was happy to use it, same thing goes to graviton
First time seeing your page but I'm glad I was recommended this video! Prime Destiny 1 was my favorite game of all time hands down. I believe they could definitely rekindle that fire within the older players like myself with a new game by finding a way to capture the same feeling of grinding every day and putting in hundreds of hours to get that perfect hard to obtain loadout while following a captivating storyline without then sunsetting the gear to make it completely useless and under powered for the next DLC. That was my biggest problem with the game back in the day, all of that time we spent putting into the game grinding for hundreds of hours felt like a waste when all of those exotic and legendary items were surpassed by mere rare DLC loadouts that could be obtained within 3 hours of gameplay from the new DLC if you payed for it. Just felt like a slap in the face to be honest. If we could have a system where a grind was necessary and not made worthless just to force people into playing for the new DLC I would fall back in love with the game. But alas games are expensive to make and game studios and developers are forced to find creative ways to create revenue, so I understand where they come from I just wish they had found an alternative method in doing so. I don't see them fixing this issue with their DLC system however it's what killed the drive to play the game for me. Still love reminiscing on the good times of D1 though:)
I agree there needs to be a restart. As some who has played since the d1 beta there's not much that excites me anymore because we've been at the peak of our powers and weapons for such a long time, same mission formats same activities etc. Some of those i dont think they can fix by just doing expansions because of short the turn around is for them. Destiny is missing a lot of things where it makes for it not to do one compared to actual mmos. If they do a refresh they need to complete reinvent the game to justify it. Prismatic seems like it was meant for d3 but they moved it up that's a good start of an idea but even as it is now it still seems limited especially on titan and they haven't said if they'll expan upon it or not.
There’s a lot of things wrong with Destiny 2 at the current moment and has been for well over 4 years now. Sunsetting killed the game for the longest time, not even to mention crafting just doesn’t feel as good as getting random roles. There’s really no excitement behind going for weapons anymore and as someone who’s been around since Destiny 1, we need a complete refresh on the game. It’s just a toxic cycle of having to repay for content they vaulted and forcing players to pay $20 per dungeon key, this game is definitely not inviting for new lights that’s for sure.
i think weapon crafting is good but maybe make the weapons that can be crafted out of world drops that drop rarely from doing activities in patrol (with doing improvements to patrol) to make it more fun and exciting
My biggest and only complaint I had with the BL sunsetting situation was purely the fact that a whole part of the game was removed, never the guns being sunset. I hate the fact I can't play Red War, the Levi raids, a ton of strikes, and explore a bunch of older destinations. Nothing newer feels fresh purely because I have been running the same guns for ages. For me, the sunsetting anger was never about the guns, but it was 100% about the removal of content and story.
@@cbgray no clue bud but I'm sure they can figure it out but I don't know say have a helmet that has 5% extra super energy passively gained it would then be up to Bungie on just how much a percentage you can actually have for such a thing because they make it so you can have 100% I just the helmet I would definitely have that on always so to speak if I can get that 0.00001% chance of it dropping for me then do the same thing with the other four pieces of armor truly a stat monster
That I agree with. Same thing with Red War. Sometimes I think certain DLCs are a product of the current systems in place (double primary, no random rolls) and current state of the core in the game.
It's crazy seeing how far you have come you helped me with a couple things on destiny about 3+ years ago I think my GT was crux player at the time. love the streams when I can catch them in the UK so I'm asleep for most of them. Keep grinding brother you've come so far keep it up ❤
I should start off saying that I REALLY want a destiny 3 but... Im just not sold that bungie themselves want destiny 3, I genuinely think that bungie would rather end the franchise than make a 3rd game, the only game I see them making in the destiny franchise any time soon could be a mobile spinoff game.
@@cbgray I think either option will be a long time until they happen because of the other games they are working on right now, for me personally from all the things bungie has done recently, how they have been acting, and what we have been getting it seems like they are ready to move onto the next thing now, obviously they won't just end destiny off entirely but I think it's going to be at least 3+ years before we get anything like destiny 3, and I also believe that we are going to get episodes for awhile, I don't think we are going to be on the yearly DLC schedule anymore, again I would love to be wrong but I just think a lot of the devs are going to be moving on from destiny.
3 weeks late but great video. Makes me wonder if Bungie team has these types of conversations when developing the content. Making strikes relevant with rare Taken shader or cosmetic ornaments, curated roll etc would make the grind worth doing.
Let's all just chill until Destiny 2 has the vaulted content back in it all in one complete game then we can start thinking about Destiny 3. I want Destiny 3 to be a new game. Not another "Man I wish they would bring xyz from Destiny 1/2 back" Everything has to be new. No patrols, no public events. Everything has to be innovative like you have no idea what is happening mechanically. Nothing worse than knowing that every new planet is gonna have 1 planetary resource, lost sectors, patrols and public events. You know exactly what will be in it. Has to be new ideas. Not just Destiny 2 replaced by a 3.
I wouldn’t mind it being made on the same concept of fps space game with patrols and campaigns, but it definitely needs to be tackled in a way that’s completely different from how it’s ever been handled. Destiny has a lot of good basic mechanics and gameplay elements that I would hate to see just thrown out. Also unvaulting everything into one complete game at this point would cause the exact same problem with too many things to keep up to date with development wise. I wouldn’t mind having everything back if d3 was like around the corner, but I don’t want everything to come back just for pvp or strikes or anything to get completely ditched. I definitely understand where you’re coming from though
Thank you. Enough with the reprised content. As a player that started in Beyond Light, Im happy to be able to experience whisper and outbreak that are so beloved but not in d3. Ive put 2k hours in since Ive started and a blank slate would go hard. Ive come to enjoy rogue likes and ng+ in games because it keeps things fresh and experiencing new stuff consistently. Not just new planet = 3 lost sectors maybe a new public event like you said.
@@chrisrenemans5026The game eventually being 300GB is nothing. People constantly bring up the fact content was removed and its one of the main reasons the playerbase has dipped. What good is low storage space if it means you have an incohesive game?
30:07 honestly, it is something that a lot of us pointed out early on with crafting, and with shifting the experience more towards the weekend warrior, rather than the hard-core player. Like you said there’s no reason to go into patrol. There’s no reason to do any of these things that are the normal gameplay loop for this game. Then they wondering why they keep losing players, when they have completely taken the gameplay loop out of the game. I think for hard-core players, when they stop and think about it, and aren’t playing off of the sounding board of the audience, they can understand that sunsetting is extremely important. That refreshing loop pools and taking out old things is extremely important to keep a game, healthy10 years down the road.
We've had such a long time of destiny 2, as fun as it is to keep getting more powerful, there is no better feeling that starting fresh. If destiny 2 had all the content from day 1 in it, then i would have started over multiple times by now.
@@altaraeastral9288 I do remember of one example where they said outright they were shutting down this one rumor to temper expectations, might of been in a twab or whatever can’t remember
As a company, they absolutely deserve to fail. What they did to D2 was unforgivable, and until the fix that, they wont be getting any of my money. None of my clan is playing or will ever play again.
Having a d3 is the most dumb corpo copium idea ever, IF THEY COULDNT LAND IT FOR 5 YEARS ON THIS GAME, how will they do it in another reboot like come on man.
sunsetting was not a fail. i dont care what anyone says. The fail was the fact that Bungie didn't replace the things that were sunset with interesting enough items fast enough. Eventually they got there but it took them until the end of the WQ year.
@@messiahnyx971 we have to stop this. the content they cut was literally the least played content in the game. Nobody was doing patrols on IO, or mercury or mars. Forsaken missions MIGHT have been getting a little play time...but no other campaigns were. You are asking for a 200gb game in which you would only interact with maybe a quarter of it.
@@chrisn3819 lol you do realize that if some companies keep taking steps forward like that testing players won’t be surprised if legal action would be taken at some point. Idk why your defending it
@@chrisn3819You need to remember that to replay those campaigns, you had to DELETE YOUR CHARACTERS. I'm so tired of everyone saying it was fine to delete those campaigns because no one played them. Of course they weren't getting played very much after people had ran through them once because there was no easy way to replay them. The new player experience has suffered so badly without the Red War as an introduction to characters and gameplay.
I want everything I have from d2 in d3. I hate the idea of losing everything I grinded so hard for. But I love the idea of a fresh start as well. Into the light is a great example of bungie combatting the crafting problem by make loot that is desirable and hard to get.
Why are people positive about this. They’ve proven that another game won’t fix anything already. And that it’ll likely be worse and remove positive changes made over the years. Are all these RU-vidrs being payed off or something???
The issue is when the game had terrible rng, people whos job it was to play the game and make content on it loved it but it was never a good system. These guys just grew to think of it as the norm when it very obviously isn't. The game is already perfectly grindy as is.
@@oxsila ya. Mostly too Grindy. It shouldn’t take 97 clears to get vex mythoclast and a hard mode 98 for the catalyst. It’s just kinda a slap in the face and a waste of time to anyone who actually has a life.
@@oxsilaI wasn’t a content creator in the vanilla Destiny era you described. And it wasn’t my job to play this game until 2022 not sure where this spawned from or if you’re just unfamiliar with my channel.
@@JQDeathFromAbove96 100%. You can have a good balance though. There's still room for rng. Just not the levels of things like Curse of Osiris, things like Escalation Protocol where it took an obscene amount of time to get the weapons to drop. Onslaught is showing that RNG can be done in a way that is fun to grind, but not overly steep. There's still a grind with the shinies for people who like to grind, but the reward for the base weapons is still there and you have some control over what drops with attunements. This balance is how you keep everyone happy. Crafting leans a little too far on the other side. Weapon attunement is a perfect compromise imo.
@@oxsila Bungo shill. You probably think the new mode is hoard too huh rather than what it actually is: tower defense. No one asked for tower defense. Hundreds if not thousands have asked for hoard mode. What does Bungo do force a weak ass defense object to ruin our fun. Tormentors are fucking broken. Champions are fucking bullshit. Forced defense missions are fucking TRASH.
Hopefully what D3 offers is a sustainable work flow for producing content and sticks to a long term vision. No more overpromise - underdeliver or content droughts due to restructuring of strategy.
I got 0 problem with content droughts. That's the last thing we should be worrying about. What's most important is that whatever content they put out, it should be new and quality. When you start asking for no content drought, you have to be open to reskins and rushed development tactics.
Didn’t Eli say that and I say that? He said d3 or a refresh. I explained why I don’t think a refresh would happen. Not sure if you agree with my reasoning.
props to sweat for his level of understanding and how he took his stance but the time he chose to voice his concerns was a mistake. most people are easily blinded by “honeymoon phases” think of all the toxic relationships that people still take part in despite abuse. A couple nice words and expensive gifts goes a long ways. Witch queen release was hype and the campaign/raid was awesome. A lot of people in the community myself included were still riding the high of the release when this came out and I think thats why it faced such backlash.
The question for me is after we defeat the witness who is our next next major threat for destiny 3 and they need to let us players keep our stuff instead of doing what they did in year one of destiny 2 meaning taking everything we worked for
Sweat is good people 💚hang out in his streams quite a bit and I love how he just tells it how it is. and I'm thinking they are gonna announce or tease that they are developing Destiny 3 when final shape drops.
sweatcicle has always been right. he’s been talking about this sort of thing for about 3/4 years, and people were brushing it off. but NOW everyone’s catching on. love the video 👍❤
Idk why people are forgetting that a destiny 3 isn’t a new concept. bungie said a long time ago that the final shape and the episodes after weren’t the end of destiny, hell they even said they wanted to focus more on the vex. And they said this beforeee the prismatic showcase livestream
