I've reached the point where I have a full collection of sweaters I've made and don't need to add any more, so I'm re-knitting some of them with customisations into the version I always wished I'd made: adding stitches and short rows over the bust, adjusting the waist shaping placement, sleeve length, and adding short row neck shaping. I'm also considering using much nicer yarn the second time around, but on that I'm undecided.

The Champagne cardigan is more laborious rather than difficult simply because the plaket takes so long to make, but in the end its a simple double knit section that requires a quiet evening (or few hehe). It is so incredibly worth it and I am already knitting my second one!

Is it all well explained for an intermediate knitter like me?
@ghostpuff
@ghostpuff Год назад
@@SharonCullenArt I would put myself somewhere as a beginner intermediate, and I understood it! Petite Knit also has video links that show the process (even tho they are in Danish) which also helped a lot. I would say yes, you will have little to no difficulty! I think the explanations and clean design is why Petite Knit is so wildly popular :))

I enjoyed your Ramble this cold Sunday here in New England. I love knitting sweaters and knit 7 in 2022! One for my 23 yr old daughter but the rest for me. Two were short sleeved for the warmer weather but I wear all my handknits. My favorite knit for 2022 was the No Frills Sweater made with your fingering and Siri held together. I loved it but my daughter also loved it so I gifted it to her, because that’s the type of Mom I am. 😂 I plan on making another for me in 2023.

Love the granny square coaster and I think a nice dark green would really compliment the natural black yarn! I’m a sweater knitter through and through. I always have one on the needles, sometimes two depending upon what else is going on. I knit myself several sweaters a year, but I also knit for my kids. Plus we live in Michigan, so I’m wearing a sweater every day from September to May. Lol!

I've been knitting for 10+ years but fell out of love with it about a year ago. I've felt like the way to keep building my skill set was to tackle increasingly complex patterns, which I just don't enjoy. Your channel has taught me so much about fibres, pairing and just enjoying my hobby again. I'm going to knit the 'Berry Diamond' jumper from Garn Studio in a lovely red wool blend from a local (to me) source in South West England, whilst binge watching your channel! Please say hi to your son and don't worry, we all put our trousers on backwards sometimes 😊

I love this Lucy. It’s disappointing when we fall out with our hobby or craft, especially because we think we’re not doing enough or challenging ourselves enough. Life provides its own challenges. Our hobbies ought to bring us joy. If there is creative challenge that we enjoy, then great. But seeking out challenge just because we think we need to is frustrating. I do not gravitate towards complicated patterns either. I don’t care for them and with kids, I’m either too distracted or too sleepy to execute them. 😅. Honestly, and this is a me thing, some over-complicated patterns offend me. Lol! (How dare they assume I have that kind of mental fortitude!) 😂 Bottom line: it’s about enjoyment and I hope you get that all back. ❤

Another fantabulous Midweek Ramble Tayler. 🙂 But only 4 sweaters? Haha... Now that I found two pullover patterns that I love, I want to make as many of them as I can. I don't mind making the same pattern over and over again... but it will be the yarns I used that will make a difference. I can't wait to see yours. I am especially excited to see the finished sweater with the Lovely Valley Wool Yarns. I've been eyeing it actually since you featured it... I want to purchase a sweater quantity also... but will wait until near my birthday. I have so much yarn here that I need to use. I am currently knitting a hat/beanie with "I Love This Wool" from Hobby Lobby and oh my my my... I love it. This is the first time I've ever used 100% Wool and asked myself "What took me so long?" LOL... I will definitely be going back to Hobby Lobby to purchase a sweater quantity of this yarn... But I have yet to use Lion Brand's Fishermen's Wool that I recently purchased also. And the yarn shopping begins... Anyway, have a wonderful rest of your day... and week... See you Sunday! 🙂

Happy New Year to you Taylor! As always, thank you for sharing your upcoming projects and taking the time to talk about the yarns you have planned to use with those projects. The sweater you are wearing in this episode is just lovely. I truly love the talent you have for combining yarns to produce lovely products. Yes - I will be knitting sweaters this year. The two I have cast on already are Na Craga by Alice Starmore and the Newfoundland Pullover by Barbara Harpur. For both of these sweaters I have decided to use Lion's Brand Re-Spun yarn. I have always appreciated the comments you make about Lion's Brand and when I found this 100% post consumer recycled yarn I decided to support them in this effort and buy some. We'll see how it goes! As always - you are delightful and thank you so very much for sharing your upcoming projects, and thoughts on yarn, with us. Take care, stay warm and enjoy your knitting! -- Julezze

I finished (finally) seaming two sweaters yesterday. I had finished the pieces weeks ago, but I hate the seaming/finishing part so I was procrastinating. They both turned out fine. One I love (a pullover with cables back and front), the other I like (a boat neck pullover in a lovely wool, silk, mohair blend) 😊 I have another waiting to be seamed (a mock turtleneck pullover) and yet a fourth I have almost completed putting together (a simple pullover found on Kutovavika Knits). I have no problems with the process, it's the completion I get hung up on. My 2023 challenge is to learn to do top down seamless sweaters: and I have two patterns (and the yarn) ready to start. I watch you and a few other RU-vidrs to help psyche myself up! I love your choices. I bought the Gentle Lopi (Melody Hoffman) which I am looking forward to. Fingers crossed I can do it ... and the rest! Thanks for your inspiration, Tayler!👍

I really appreciate hearing the sweaters you want to make, and also the quantity that you think you can finish in a year. I've made 5 sweaters at this point, 2 in the last 3 months and finished one from 3 years ago just recently, too, and I'm starting to realize that I really can make multiple sweaters in a year. I just can't make sweaters for me, I never get them done before finding a new interest. My goals for this year include using up my old hand me down acrylic yarn and making myself some sweaters before the Christmas cardigan rush of 2023!

I have reviewed my Ravelry queue for sweaters I want to knit in 2023. My list is too long; it's a garden I can pick from throughout the year. I have cast on Frenderup by Vivian Hoxbro using yarn I bought in Denmark before the pandemic. I love the pattern and the feel of the yarn so I'm off to a good start I think. I look forward to seeing how your projects evolve. Thanks for another fun video.

I've been thinking of doing a sweater for awhile, but I've not seen any loom knit patterns I like. I've been thinking that I don't like the baggy look, but I haven't knit a sweater yet, so I'll need a simple pattern that flatters my narrow waist. I have this one store-bought sweater that I adore and call my smoking jacket sweater, made by Merona (Target). There's no buttons, just a matching knitted belt in bathrobe-like loops, and it has a sort-of rolled cardigan collar. I might try something like that, in as little as two panels, using two looms at most. And, if I wanna get fancy with the edges, I can probably do a Spanish fingerloop braid and hand sew it on, if I like the look of it. I can make a matching fingerloop braid for the belt portion, if I go that way. The ones of those I've made in dishclothe cotton yarn tend to be very sturdy. (shrugs) I'm just spit-balling here. For the sleeves, I'll of course try to use a baby hat loom, as it's the smallest one I have, but I could do some flat knit rows to narrow the sleeves near the cuffs, if I need to. I'll either attempt a mattress stitch, or that thing where you pull a yarn strand through and cast on (the name of the technique is escaping me at the moment) to attach the sleeves. I can easily make an edged gap of holes where the sleeves will need to go in the panels, as I've done on a braided headband I attempted. So, that's my freeform brainstorm on a sweater I might attempt.

I do have some sweaters that I would love to knit this year. I have knit for my kids and babies in the family, but am just starting to build up my own hand knitted wardrobe. I would love to knit the Hinterland sweater by Jennifer Steingass, Autumn Court by Dragon Hoard Designs, The Morning Ramble Cardigan by Geoffrey Hunnicitt and the Watermark Pullover by Pierrot Yarns. I doubt I can make them all in one year as I am not very fast and don't get as much knitting time with 3 young children. However, I like the idea of having a go to list of what to knit next. :) When you were talking about pairing a yarn with the deep Lovely Valley Wool, I immediately pictured your Endor colorway with it. Maybe a bit more on the teal side though. I do think a very rich jewel tone could look beautiful with that yarn. I can't wait to see what you decide.

I love the easy sweater ideas! My first (successful) sweater was the Stepping Stone Cardigan by Rebecca McKenzie. The pattern *looks intimidating because she has lots of instructions on how to adjust the fit, but it’s not really that difficult, as cardigans go. Mainly, it has no button band (you knit what would be a button band as you go), no complicated neckline, no short row shaping and no pockets. It’s meant to be worn open, so there are no buttons or buttonholes. That said, I’m an experienced knitter (just not sweaters) so the lace and the three needle bind off weren’t a problem. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for very beginning knitters, but I thought it was a friendly first cardigan. Now I’m knitting the Mazzy Sweater by Elizabeth Smith. It fits many of the same criteria with mock cables instead of lace, but it does have pockets (which I left out by mistake and I’m not going back!) If you work it right, you can use your swatches as your pocket linings. I might make mine into patch pockets after the fact. I haven’t gotten to the raglan part yet so I can’t vouch for how easy that is, but it doesn’t appear to have short rows or anything too fiddly.

I’m spinning merino blended with mint cellulose fiber for a 3-ply sport yarn. Then I’ll dye it a slate gray (the mint fiber will remain honey colored, not taking up the dye). Goal: To knit a Cat Bordi Versitilde cable vest. I’ve made 2 of her Versitilde scarf designs, whose cables are incredibly ingenious! The black yarn you showed from a NV supplier intrigues me. It will be fantastic with your choice for an emerald yarn pairing.

Taylor, I love your sweater choices for 2023 and you inspired me to cast on the Felix (it has. Been on my list for ages). Recently, someone came in to my LYS wearing the champagne Cardi, it was stunning! She said she knit herself one and each of her daughter/daughter in-laws wanted one, so she has knit 4 of these so far. She said it was not difficult but had a few components that was time consuming or as others have said labor of love. Either way, after seeing it in real life, I think it will go into my list for 2023 so very excited to hear what you think once you dive in.

I appreciate your comments about not knitting a million sweaters. I’ve stopped watching the “what I made in a year videos” as they just sound like fashion hauls and fast fashion. I live in Vermont, and we wear sweaters year round here! Those sweaters need to be differently suited for warming a chilly night all the way up to -20 weather outside, and need to be built for everything from shoveling snow, taking care of the chickens, and chopping wood or meeting with city council, and a Board of Trustees in order to do my day job as executive Director of a library. For that reason, it doesn’t seem odd to have four new sweaters a year! 😊 This year I have plans to make a Ranunculus sweater for myself and Alpenglow by Andrea Mowry for my husband, but first, I am forcing myself to complete some projects that are still on the needles!😂

Taylor, I’ve been trying to knit a pullover sweater that fits me for a few years. After a 4th try with the so faded pattern I gave up on this one, too fiddly starting it. Made a Love Pecan during the summer, frogged the first one (bas choice of yarn) and too big. Second one I changed number of cast on stitches and eliminated the yarn overs in the body. Gave this one to my mom, sleeves too tight for me. Third time was a charm, used larger size for the sleeves on this one. Used frogged yarn for the fourth, it fits but has silk in it not nylon and it just hangs. So decided to make my own so faded with this pattern and just add long sleeves.

I cast on the Sunday sweater but the kid silk I added to it has a subtle striping effect. I was worried about it going through the vertical pattern in the yoke but it is so subtle it is looking kind of cool. The wool is a dark teal and I’m using so,e Patons classic wool I had in stash. I have waaay to much yarn. Really way too much. 9 -RA to ally bought a yarn store out when it closed 10 years ago and I have 18-20 industrial plastic storage bins full of yarn plus a couple baskets. It is bad. I’ll probably die and still have stash yarn. I had stopped knitting for 8 years and just got back into it about 4 months ago. So far this winter I have knit 7 sweaters and now the Sunday by😂 petite knit is my 8th. I’m thinking of beginning some spring tees on small needles so they are ready for spring but I’m in Michigan and won’t need them until May. I have been thinking about the no frills or something similar or a very bright thinly striped raglan. I’m in need of a good cardigan as well for sprin and have some fisherman’s wool in the birch tweed and thought that might be nice. Maybe held with off white kid silk. I love a v neck cardi but may do the cardigan #7 or the foggy autumn cardigan by Drops on size 9 needles.

Tayler, please continue to knit all of the different sweaters patterns out there and keep giving pointers, comments, feedback about the construction as a knitter or changes in yarn choices. Love to see your choice and comments about Fisherman’s wool sweater which is recently limited in our box stores😮.

I have lots of sweaters/ cardigans but I keep knitting them and wearing them. It's presently summer here but I still need my warm layers . Two days ago it was 30 degrees Celsius(86) and today it's forecast to be 13 degrees(55).

This year I would really love to finish a knit project! I’ve known how to crochet and have crocheted since I was little. Learning and actually knitting is a little tough, but I’m confident I can do it. Only problem is my wrists have been going through it so I’m trying to heal them up before getting back into it. 🥲

Made my first sweater in 2022 and now I am about to cast off my third with another WIP sweater too. If anyone is hesitant to make a sweater: I was too but go for it!!! It will be amazing, or not- but it is totally worth giving it a try. My first sweater was with clearance yarn from Joanns and I quickly upgraded because of how much I loved the process and the product!!! Good luck!!!!

When you talk about first sweaters, can you talk about first cardigan? I’ve done top down raglan sweaters, even one with a colorwork yoke, but I’ve not done a cardigan yet and find the idea intimidating.

My last garment knit was a Champagne cardigan, and it was my first applied button band. It wasn't difficult, just had to read instructions well. Believe me, if I can knit it, you can. I've started my 2023 knit, being a Pinassa sweater. I love that first sweater you showed. That Noro with mohair is gorgeous!

I was so disappointed with my first sweater two years ago (a Cocoknits pattern, in yarn I ended up hating), I procrastinated on a second attempt. The YT algorithm put the Fall Bluff by Ashley Lillis in front of me, a fast knit in bulky yarn with a full video tutorial, so I couldn't resist it. That gave me enough confidence to try something a little more complicated (but not too much!), so just today I've cast on the Monday sweater by Petite Knit (I went to the website intending to buy the No Frills, and I just don't remember what happened there). So I had to smile when I saw you were going to talk about your sweater plans for this year. I'm looking forward to seeing your improvised one most of all.

My planned sweater for me this year is the long No Frills cardigan by petite knit. It will be a labor of love as my knitting time is limited. Also plan to knit a sweater for each of my teenage daughters - they get to choose the pattern and yarn!

Thank you for the inspiration. I have the yarn for my second sweater (still finishing my first raglan). I received a Zauerball for my birthday and am all excited to plan for a circular yoke sweater with colorwork. I really enjoy watching your channel. 😀

I left 2 blanks on my Make Nine plan, possibly with you, and your ability to change my mind about things, in mind. I think that high-low sweater would look terrific over empire waisted dresses and it might go in one of those blanks. Unrelated - I keep checking my Amazon tracking for the circular loom I bought. I am blaming you. Just so you know. And I have a kid who comes pretty regularly to my library programs (I’m a children’s librarian in a public library) who wears his clothes backwards frequently. He said he likes to see both sides. Makes perfect sense to me.

This comment is soo sweet. I’ll totally take the blame for your Amazon purchase. I hope it’s a good one. And as for your blank spaces, I think that’s smart. We need to allow ourselves room to change our minds…even if it’s just a little. And Aengus is a sweet yet quarky little guy. Sometimes ‘tag in back’ logic eludes him. 😂

Currently I am working on the Pilgrim Sweater Thin from my Wilderness Knits book by Linka Neumann. I live in Ontario, Canada so we usually have cold winters. Love learning the different processes of knitting top down or bottom up sweaters and will definitely be making many more this year not only for me but, my family. Thanks for another inspiring podcast. ❤

This year I'm going to knit my very first cardigans. I've been a knitter for a long time now, but never sweaters because of my morphology. Well, 2023 is the year I love myself enough to make some changes, starting with a surgery on monday, then will come a Felix Cardigan for myself!! I'm absolutely excited to venture there, for real.

My 2023 sweater cast on is the money tank from wool and the gang. I’m determined to love it and not frog it half way through. I think I want to have a go with petite knits patterns. Fab video, I did laugh with the kid interlude and potential pants on the wrong way round 😂

I've knit the Champagne Cardigan (as my first garment ever 🤪) 2x a year ago, and both recipients of them love it! It's not difficult at all IMHO, but it's boring as heck with basic stockinette the whole time. The button band is picked up around after you knit it & it's a k1, s1, back and forth, essentially creating a tube. I think i picked up like 400 stitches to do the button band (and thus 800 rows since every stitch has to be worked 2x). It's quick since there's so few stitches, but boring and there's a LOT of it. Once the shaping is done, easy breezy knit!

I just love your podcasts - someone said you are insightful and 100% agree. I am casting on a sweater for myself after making the Oslo hat from petite knits, i fell in love with a particular bright skein of yarn I paired with mohair for the hat and loved the effect. I’m looking at the cumulus blouse to use this light fingering with the mohair as i love the style but do not have gauge. This may be my first attempt to take the style but do a conversion for a different gauge. If you have any advice I welcome it - the pattern calls for 18 stitches x 26 rows and I’m getting 24 x 34. I’ve tried adding a second strand of mohair and going up in needles but I love the fabric from my 24 stitch swatch and i want the cumulus style….all advice or pointing to references welcome.

I plan to knit four sweaters/cardigans in 2023. I’m currently really into texture stitches and cabling so that will definitely feature. First is the Kenobi cardigan which I am knitting in a large size so my husband can borrow it too as it is a unisex pattern. I live in Aberdeen Scotland so sweaters are always welcome!

First, I will be finishing the cardigan I'm working on. (I didn't make it by Christmas or New Years) Then, my nephew has asked me to make him a cable sweater in a heathered spruce green. Then, I have planned a feathers and fans pullover sweater in oceania. Then, I would like to make a plain raglan in something close to nutmeg. Last year was all about learning to knit and acrylics, so this year, I'm looking forward to trying natural fibers.
