@@GymChess Why are you laughing at a language? Far Far means grandfather (father’s father) in Swedish. You might as well laugh at a Mexican person calling their grandma “Abuela” if you’re going to be that petty

@@mshafer1021 Swedish person here! The correct spelling is "Farfar" for grandfather. My family and ancestors have been living here on Öland since the year 1630, documented.. but it's likely that we have been living here for longer than that the archives does not go further back.. 🙂 We usually do not use the word "Far" for Father anymore, its a bit old. We use "Pappa" and "Mamma" for father and mother. Which is seen as a bit more modern and casual. However when it comes to grandparents we still use the word "Farfar" etc. We do not write "Pappapappa" or something like that. Föräldrar = Parents Farföräldrar = Fathers Parents (Grandparents) Morföräldrar = Mothers Parents (Grandparents) Far / Pappa = Father Farfar = Grandfather Gammelfarfar = Great Grandfather Mor / Mamma = Mother Mormor = Grandmother Gammelmormor = Great Grandmother Gammel = Basically means old, a variation of "gammal". Used to assign the attribut "old" to something or someone that is old. Gammelgädda, Gammeldansk, Gammelmormor, Gammelfarfar, Gammelmorfar, Gammelfarmor and so forth.. And then you have combinations of these two, which does not have an English counterpart: Farmor (Fathers Mother) Morfar (Mothers Father) But as you might have noticed.. it's hard to differentiate on which side (Mothers or Fathers) the "Gammel- Generation" is... therefore this is mainly used in spoken language and written as "Farfars Far" for Gammelfarfar on the fathers side and "Mors Farfar" on the mothers side. By the way Cindy, if you want me to search for your Grandfather in the archives, give me his name and I will see what I can do. I could probably find his parents 1 or 2 generations back, family history is *very well documented* in Sweden. If you thought that would be fun, I would be happy to help and provide you with information so that you can go deeper into the research for yourself or at least point you in the right direction 😊

@@fyyfu thanks for that! I actually learned some Swedish in my younger days. I was on an island once-I think it was called “Gräna” if memory serves-and I had a fake argument with a little boy. I was riding a bike around the island and I stopped to admire a tiny horse that I saw grazing. Then the boy came up to me and protested that it was his horse and I jokingly told him I bought it from his parents so it’s mine now, then he said some angry words I couldn’t understand and rode away on his bike 🤣🤣🤣 But seriously though, I would love to have learned more of the language because it was very easy to learn, but alas, you Swedes make it so easy for us English speakers so that we don’t have to 🤣 PS: I love that you guys keep extensive family records like that! My “Gammelmormors” family, the Bolender family of Germany, has family history dating back to the 11th century!

Thanks for the video. I have very fond memories of this bridge. I was in Öland back in winter 2005, and the entire island was covered by a thick layer of snow -which looked like Mars for a Mediterranean city boy like me. Now I see it looks fantastic in summer, too. I'd love to visit Sweden again, it's such a wonderful country.

I went to a small shopping mall in Öland. We bought some kind of small green cakes that were dipped in chocolate on the ends. That was a long time ago that I went there...I think 2000?
