Then you come to Melbourne, Australia, where we are only allowed to go out 1 hour a day for exercise. We also must stay within a 5km radius and must oblige to an 8pm curfew. There were only 36 cases yesterday and over 300,000 people have been affected by their jobs. Stupid. Honestly stupid

Well people in Melbourne didn't heed the advice given at first & it was a necessary step to reduce the daily cases from more than 700 per day. Hopefully it has kept the rest of Australians safe. Maybe if people took this virus seriously & kept social distancing ,wore masks & sanitised hands frequently then these measures wouldn't have been necessary. This virus will be around for a long time yet so masks should be compulsory in public.

Not really. Because our so called "startegy" has its basis in ideology and not science. This is clear by the many self-condradictions and ideological statements made by Tegnell. Sure, it's important to listen to scientists - that's why you have to listen to the scientists in Norway, Denmark, South Korea and basically the rest of the world whom Tegnell disagrees with on ideological grounds.

@EnSund Dansker that is also my view on the situation. The Danish strategy are a political one, not based on previous agreements and knowledge, like they wanted to do, and what we did in Sweden. But then again, in Sweden we do have something that is forbidden in the constitution, called Ministrer ruling (Ministerstyre), and that means that the government can not go into governs like Folkhälsomyndigheten and tell them how they should work and decide in details. In Denmark there are, as I learned, more of a rule that Ministers do that. And we do follow the laws and constitution, which doesn't even allow the government to restrict our movements in Sweden, which a lock down would be.

Different economies. Different exposure to clusters in Italy and Austria, different mobility of people. "The cherrypicking is actually comparing them to Germany or France, like i've seen certain people do." Are you implying they are similar? France ranks WAY higher than Germany, and nobody ranks as bad as Belgium, despite all three having had mandatory lockdowns. Nowadays Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland etc are very similar in 7 day moving average deaths per million, while almost all countries are following the Swedish method of no enforced lockdown. @nicknavarra1421
@nicknavarra1421 4 года назад
@@stream2watch You are joking right? You are basically telling me "if the strategy would have worked, then the strategy would have worked!". The whole propose of isolating only the risk groups was to avoid high mortality in that sectors of the population, but it failed because you cannot acomplish that if the rest of the country is operating normally and therefore have high rates of virus circulation. Everyone understood that from the start, but Sweden stick to the idea that they could do it. The exposure and mobility are also a consecuence of the policy, they are not independent differences. On the other hand, is baffling to me that you are using the last 7 days to conclude that "the other countries are very similar in death per million". Of course they are now, because the circulation of the virus is scarse now in those countries independently of their policies, but the thing is all those countries avoid the 5000+ deaths that the swedes had when the virus hit, with the same or even less economic contraction. The numbers are pretty clear, you cannot just avoid them with a "if this or that didn't happened then Sweden would have the same numbers". Yeah, comparing the situations of different places is always complicated, and epidemiology and economics are no exceptions. However, that does not mean that you cannot make any conclusions. You can if you account for the variables involved and you understand the significance of the differences in the magnitude of the variable you are analyzing. For example, if two countries speak different languages, that is no sufficient to justify a diffenrece in covid mortality, but a diffenrence in PBI per capite might. This is not my opinion or new information, it is basic social sciencie epistemology. Although i am not surprised that you don't grasp it when you clearly don't understand what statistical relevance means or even what is the difference between a fallacy and an untrue proposition.

It is crazy....and now kids at school...up to 6 y.o....they have to wear mask all the time at school and social distance...they cannot play and stay together.

Clearly: swedish model only works for swedish people and only in Sweden. You cannot apply the same rule where hundreds of modifying factors are different including culture, technology, geography, borders, development, economy, and so on and so on. They said that even the language (e.g.: italaian) and verbal gestures and greetings (kisses, handshakes, hugs) were playing a role in spreading the disease in Italy in the first month. Also the fact that lot of temporary jobs in tourism where it spread faster (of course poor hygiene helps it more) and all temp workers then fled to their southern home cities as fast they could where the virus could start again. And these are just a one or two factors of the hundreds that lead to differences later when they defined strategies. Just think about: you cannot rule a small country in the mountains the very same way as you would rule another country laying on the seashores or on an island. Never compare an apple to a pear, eventhough they may come from the same - modified tree..

Why there is such variation would seem to be complex. Lockdown would seem to play an insignificant role: Belgium, Spain, UK and Italy have all recorded a greater percentage of deaths attributed to Covid than Sweden and it is likely will suffer greater collateral damage in the longer term. And that’s just as well. At least it creates an alternative policy rather than just following the herd, as it were. Note that the presentation of ‘cases’ records is strongly selective, to the extent that there is no description of what it means, the accuracy of the technique in use, or the pro rata values. Not only that, it’s being used as a justification for various actions that are, in effect, undemocratic, and for many, intolerable. It might look trite, using the term “the more you look, the more you find”, but there’s a lot in it, given the way they are operating. A cynic might observe that it's quite easy to ramp up the number of so-called cases, especially given the poor accuracy of the method in use, selective targeting etc. It doesn't prove that the real risk is getting worse - except for that caused by the reaction. Anders has covered a lot of ground in this interview, not least the overall effect on other aspects of health care, which don’t make it in the media very much. It’s worth noting that the latest death certificate numbers published by UK ONS shows that C19 ‘involvement’ totals have been falling for the last 24 weeks, while the total (for all causes) for week 35 is well above the 5 year average. It’s well known that lots of serious procedures have been deferred, and while it’s speculation as to what the outcome will be, one would think that many life expectancies will fall, unfortunately - not so much caused by the new virus itself, but by the systematic reaction to it; we’ll see.

Keep in mind that the swedish model works in sweden. It isn't necessarily exportable to other countries. It relies on a well educated population that are able to make their on choices on available data. This means very tough times for restaurant cafes and basically the whole tourism industry. It mean that I for instance has been working from home since February. It mean that the cultural life (exhibitions, concert, music festival etc all has been closed down) and the list goes on. We have very real effects on society and economy. We have no lockdown, but that doesn't mean we take this thing serious and make choices to minimise impact. Social distancing is something we take seriously. So if thenpeople in your country isn't grown up to actually handle the situation and take the burden of the effects, voluntarily, well....this system won't work there.

Please note while discussing, that while the death toll skyrocketed in the Stockholm region, other populous regions in Sweden such as Skåne (bordering to Denmark's capitol area of Copenhagen which is often described as one single economic cross-border hub) had an infinitely lower death toll - in fact, lower than that of Denmark. On the same national strategy. Both results on the one and the same national strategy in both Stockholm and Skåne. I see a lot of comparisons by numbers by people cherry-picking statistics to prove their point. The above mentioned is trying to point out that one needs to zoom out to a level of strategic importance, and not zoom in on certain numbers to prove a bias of what you already felt.

It also has a lot to do with demographics and how densely populated an area is, how the infrastructure is etc. Stockholm is very densely populated in many areas and parts of the immigrant population seem to have been hit the hardest. Perhaps be cause of a different way of living (large families in small living areas and grandparents living among younger people). Also, its wrong when some critics start comparing the number of deaths in Sweden to for neighbouring countries Norway, Denmark and Finland. These nations ar totally different and not comparable to Sweden. Except for Copenhagen perhaps and they were hit much harder than the Swedish neighbour Malmo. Sweden, or rather Stockholm, is better compared with some French, Belgian och British cities, where Covid-19 also hit hard.

@@Jonsson474 Right. It's a complex matter and we laymen just don't have the full picture, just as people with little knowledge of Sweden won't be able to see the context in which decisions are being made, why they might be valid in Sweden but not elsewhere, or why the strategy may be viewed as working parallell to a high death toll in elder care centres. 🤷‍♂️ All we know, is that suppression is not viable.

Sweden had/has clusters but they hold their cool and let the outbreaks subside. I fear there are many in NSW who seem to think VIC’s lockdowns are appropriate.
