Finally, a video that shows someone eating it the correct way (small pieces with some potatoes, or crackers, or other stuff). Eating a bunch straight out of the can is like drinking hot sauce out of the bottle and saying it's bad because it's too strong!
Expect the hot sauce is a sauce which is not meant to be drink ( but like the name suggest to use it like a sauce ). Meanwhile this rotten fish is a type of food, if you need to eat with with something else to cover the taste because is very bad than is stupid.
If a food has to be covered up in order to be enjoyed then I don't see the point. Hot sauce is an additive to food so I don't think that's a fair comparison. Now if you're saying surstromming is a condiment then I'd be inclined to agree. As a food however....I don't see the point. Especially since half the swedish people in this video hated it. A delicacy doesn't have to be delicious to be respected.
You guys are dumb and clearly misunderstood the comment. There are people who find our condiments repulsive (I find ketchup gross) and like this stuff. Just because it's not what you like doesn't mean everyone hates it (I find it gross, but I don't call them gross because of it).
@@readein I can see how it's a fair comparison. Some of our condiments taste disgusting by themselves, and so does this fish. And there are a lot of people in your country who hate the food in your country, so half of the sweetish people hating it is like saying half of Americans hate olives.
1:21 "It looks dead." Yeah, it has its head chopped off, its entrails are hanging out and it has been rotting in that can for months. There is a relatively high chance of it being dead.
This channel just seems to have done it for the surströmming view parade... No mention of how to do it properly, not even in the description. Just one guy mentions bread which is unfortunately is way too hard to be fresh tunnbröd. Luckily he did have, what looks like crème fraîche and potatoes...
I’m an American and I have been eating pickled harring my entire life. I tried this a couple years ago and was just fine with it. Everyone else around me couldn’t stand it though. Tasted good to me. 👍
Whenever your eat meat, it’s hung and started fermenting for a few days at least. If you eat authentic sausage, it’s fermented, if you eat fish sauce, it’s completely controlled “rotten” seafood juice. So many things are fermented or cured. Some favor micro-organisms which produce foul-smelling gases, others don’t.
It is fish that has decayed up to a certrain stage ,then the right amound of salt added to stop further decay . It has alot of flavor from what I have read . Do they sell this in Canada ?
I watched a video where a Swede suggested opening the can 5 or better 10 meters away from the table (outside of course). He took one fish from the can and left the can standing away from the table.
Just came back from stockholm. The local food already tells you why they like surstromming. Think of jam, sweet cream sauce together with salty meat loaf, everyday.
What is the flat cracker called / brand name? - and where can I get it in the USA? Also, I saw another video where the gentleman used a flexible thin bread and rolled it up into a wrap. Was that also a Swedish bread?
I genuinely want to properly try this. It reminds me of people who will eat a tablespoon full of vegemite and say it’s bad when that’s not how aussies eat it.
You know I think I've got an idea... we need to create our version of this stuff in the United States. Made with Weasel, the other Yellow meat. We could call it.......? "Mileycyrustromming." It could be all the rage.
I believe the taste would be much better if you fry it with onion, chili and potato. Once done, eat with rice or bread and put some soya sauce a little. It should be better. We call it pekasan in our country. Its also fermented, but we fry before we serve them.
Marion Hinzman I just looked into that and youre right. Sweden called them out for misrepresenting it. then again, buzzfeed has never been concerned with facts. instead views and ad money are whats important and serving canned fish will not get them views unless its rotten, all while they claim its how the swedes eat it.
What the different between sardines and surstroming? In Indonesia we cook sardines with more hot chili, garlic, red onion, tomato and etc. We eat with warm rice. It's delicous. So what is surstroming? Why sweedish didn't cook that first?? Sorry for bad english.
3200 years in the future, humanity is almost at its end and the last swedish person alive is about to left this world, but not first without writing a last meessage...."yeah we fake it, it smell like shit hahah trolled"
WHYYYY???? Oh my goodness.........I don't understand how a human being can eat this...............Well, at least you don't need to wear deodorant at the party!!😂😂😂 That blond lady has the best reactions of all!!!!😂😂😂
don't knock it until you try it,thought it would be terrible BUT,still eating it years after trying it in swedan,i really believe its a ether love it or hate it thing.
