For those who argue about the accent of the singer (I see some suggests norwegian or finnish). I dont remember what the group name is offhand (edit it is "Fčeličky"), but they are italian (or thereabout. southern european). edit -they are Czech The singer does not actually speak swedish, but have learned this song phonetically. So while her accent is strange and thick in Swedish ears, it is actually not bad ...considering. The oldest known version of this tune is from upland (the area around uppsala) in Sweden, dated to the very early 17th century. There are a few versions of it from finland, but they are later, from the early 19th century. The mentioning of Freja and Valhalla in the last verse are very recent modern additions, not present in any traditional version.

What is the name of the artist? Maybe uploader can tell us?
@mah2126
@mah2126 2 года назад
@@hm09235nd I had forgotten this thread. Actually I was wrong. The group is not Italian, it is Czech. The name of the group is Fčeličky (I have NO idea how to pronounce that) founded 2002 and with 7 albums in their discography. They apparently sings folk songs from several countries focusing on czech and swedish folk, and although much of what they give as example on their channel here on youtube do not suit my taste, they do have some examples of swedish songs -this included BTW the accent is not helped by them copying Gjallarhorns version (the first version that mentions valhalla and freja). and while gjallarhorn sings this song in Swedish, they are Finnish from the Swedish speaking region of Finland, which gives it a very unique accent to begin with.

It really does sound like Norwegian. Though, this is coming from someone who's learning Norwegian and has been listening to music from Norway and Sweden for over a year... So my opinion might be biased or inexperienced...? Idk. It just sounds a lot more... different to Swedish songs like Vargsången and the My Kullsvik cover of Hello by Adele, but more similar to Til Ungdommen.

I believe the singer is finnish. The band finnish Gjallarhorn also has this song, where you can hear the lyrics much clearer, and even though it's very much swedish it also sounds norwegian, and this is comming from someone born and raised in norway. I think they're using older some swedish words from when there were fewer differences between our languages. Same story with the band Garmarna if you're familliar with them.

@puudathemeow5593
@puudathemeow5593 2 года назад
The band is actually from Czechia so the singer is not a native Swedish speaker. I'm a Swedish-speaking finn and didn't have much problems understanding it but she still has a very clearly slavic accent. My dialect approximately sounds like the Stockholm dialect would have sounded in the 1500s so I have some sort of idea what older Swedish would sound like and what you hear in this video just sounds like a foreigner singing Swedish to me. I do think they might have used the Finland-Swedish version of the song when learning it though, because it's usually easier for foreigners to learn to pronounce since the pronounciation is more straight forward and there's no complex tones like in Sweden-Swedish.

@@kylefitz.2639 As a native Swede, this does not sound at all like Swedish. Judging by the general throaty tone (just listen to those guturall R's), I would definitely think this is Danish. Plus "I Riden Så" is not grammatically correct in Swedish - "I" means "in" in Swedish, whilst in Danish "I" means "they/you" (it's a tad formal). Just doesn't make any sense in Swedish. Granted, the old word for "they/you" in Swedish was "I" - but has since became "Ni", so it could simply be an old title. Sure sounds like Danish though.
