Finally found it after eons of searching. Gotta love the human mind to remember a mere melody and some vauge phrases before embarking on a journey to find the song.

Så fin. Påminner om en opera från antiken men, tro inte att jag precis nu kommer på vad sången i operan heter. 🤔😅 Du är underbar som bjuder oss denna fantastiska musik med sång. Tack. 💌

This is a more accurate (albeit perhaps less musical) translation. ♫ *Härlig är döden, när modigt i främsta ledet du dignar,* _Lovely is death when bravely in the foremost line you succumb_ *dignar i kamp för ditt land, dör för din stad och ditt hem.* _succumb in struggle for your country, dying for your city and your home_ *Därför med eldhåg upp att värna fädernejorden!* _Therefore with rapture up to guard the ancestral land!_ *Ila att offra med fröjd livet för kommande släkt!* _Hurry to sacrifice with delight your life for future kin!_ *Fram, I ynglingar, fram i täta, oryggliga leder!* _Forward, youths, forward, in dense, immutable lines!_ *Aldrig en känsla av skräck, aldrig en tanke på flykt!* _Never a sense of terror, never a thought of flight!_ *Skam och nesa drabbar en här, då i fylkingespetsen* _Shame and disgrace befalls an army when at the tip of the array/formation*_ *framom de unge man ser gubben förblöda och dö.* _ahead of the young you see the old man bleed out and die._ *Detta höves ju främst en yngling, medan han ännu* _This behooves mainly a youth, whilst he still_ *älskligt i lockarna bär vårliga blommornas krans.* _lovingly in his curls bears the wreath of spring flowers._ *Fager för kvinnor, ståtlig för män må han synas i livet;* _beauteous for women, stately for men he may appear in life;_ *skön är han ännu som död, fallen i slaktningens mitt.* _He’s still fair as dead, fallen in the midst of the slaughter._ ♫ *(Svin>fylking< = Swine>Array< = wedge >formation< )

Even tho this song is Finland Swedish composed, I still treat this as a Swedish patriotic song and listen to it every time I return home there from the airport, border, whatever makes me enter Sweden

It is a Swedish patriotic song, whenever the Finns and Finlandswedes honor the Finnish war of 1808-1809, they glorify the men fighting and dying for Sweden since this was our last war. It was a trauma for both Sweden and Finland, the only difference is that Finland glorified the people of this war and built up a national identity around this, while Sweden just pushed it away trying to forget the humiliating defeat. Finland walk its own path, formed its own history, gave birth to new heroes, but the heroes of this war and all the songs belong to both of us.

Viktor Rydberg använde Publius Herennius Dexippus som förebild till dikten. Han var en ansedd man i Aten och försvarade staden mot en invasion år 267.

This Tyrtaeus, who created the original poem for over 2500 years ago, was actually a Spartian, but Rydberg, who made his poem based on this older one, named it Athénarnes sång. Thew Russian tzar Nicholas II signed in the 15th of February 1899 the February manifest, which actually made an end of the autonomic position of Finland. The forces, which were supporting the russifying of Finland, had won the inside quarrel in Russia. The public opinion in Finland was very heavily against this manifest, and Sibelius being a patriot very quickly composed "Athénarnes sång" as a strong protest. This march was first presented in the concert held in 26th of April 1899 in Helsinki, and in that same concert also the first symphony of Sibelius was played for the first time. The march became an immediate great success and the first symphony was left in the shade, which Sibelius didn't like at all. After all he had worked with this symphony at least 20 times longer than with the march. But that march echoed well the mood, that was risen among the Finnish people, the first symphony was more "pure music". The original Swedish text has been translated to Finnish at least six times. When I was in the Finnish elmentary school, our class sang often this march. It has been the march of the Finnsh Military Academy for several decades.

@@faderneslandet3489, the poem is Swedish based on an older poem made 2500 years ago, but the march is certainly Finnish. The composer, Jean Sibelius, was a Finn and he composed this march as a protest agaisnt the February manifest, with which the Russian tzar Nicholas II ended the autonomic position of Finland in 1899. When You step on an animal, this animal usually squeaks. And this is how we Finns squeaked in April 1899, when this march was played for the first time. It had an enormous reception, and immediately became an insignia for the resistance movement in Finland. Currently this piece is the march of the Finnish Military Academy.

Before NATO extreme sacrifice was the only way to stop the Russians. At least for a while. With NATO, we can finally stop them for good (at least as long as the alliance lasts).
