Aaron Tveit, Sutton Foster, and Joe Locke's stint in the 2024 Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd. Not the entire show, but a great sample of what it was like to attend this incredible performance
you should really change the title to sweeney slime tutorial to avoid getting the video taken down 😭😭 if it gets taken down i’ll actually cry you’re a hero

Also some numbers are ordered incorrectly. I listed all of the numbers in the order that is found in the original vocal score; I also listed some sections which are interesting, or those that include reprises of previous songs.
I'm sure Joe is a wonderful person, but a word about theatre manners: those audience members should wait until the bows to cheer for their friend. Depending on a show, it's occasionally acceptable to cheer at a super well-known person's first entrance before the scene begins and before the actor has begun speaking or singing. But it's another thing to suddenly cheer for a friend in the midst of the ensemble's intense opening number. That can momentarily distract the other audience members (not to mention the cast) and can take the audience out of the atmosphere they've immersed themselves in. Better to respect the intent of the director and the cast and allow the mood to be.
@@Avery_4272 thank you! This show has brought in a bunch of young people, especially girls. This isn't a pop concert where it's ok to scream over the performance.
OMG!!! THANK YOU!!!! I agree with all of the comments calling you a hero. I saw this in March and I’ve been dying for a bootleg to help me relive the magic!!!! I’m also one praying this never gets taken down. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤
I think they ignore it because it gives people who don't have the means to watch Broadway productions like this in situ a way to still enjoy the show, and these videos don't draw a general audience/cannibalize ticket sales because they take a while to come out, are usually not great quality, and only people who actually know/care about theatre know they exist
DO NOT LIKE!!! It will get the video more attention and thus possibly getting it taken down. Also change the name to something like demon barber slime tutorial or something along the lines of a slime tutorial. Once you read this comment tech Greg, delete it so it takes away attention.
Maybe they did? Who knows. We didn't know they proshot many things until it was announced after the show closed that it had been filmed and was going to be released.
Hate to be that guy, but there IS a right moment to clap mid song and seeing audience reactions to this entire production is driving me nuts! Learn when to clap for god's sake!
Totally agree. In terms of basic theatre manners, those audience members should've waited until the end bows to cheer for their friend. I suppose, depending on a show, it's inevitable that people may cheer at a super well-known person's first entrance before the scene begins and before the actor has begun speaking or singing. But it's another thing to suddenly cheer for a friend in the midst of the ensemble's intense opening number. That can momentarily distract the other audience members (not to mention the cast) and can take the audience out of the atmosphere they've immersed themselves in. Better to respect the intent of the director and the cast and allow for the mood intended, is my opinion.
Seeing this production I can see why originally it wasn't a very popular show in the UK. Seeing Americans perform it confirms it is a very American idealised view of British society. The most successful productions in the UK concentrate on the dark humour in the show or when in a more operatic style. The original Broadway production only had a short run in the UK
I know what you mean, but the split second where I thought you were implying that Sweeney Todd presents an idealized portrait of Britain compared to the reality was very funny
@z.m.stewart1996 it is a very American show. The libretto is scattered with Americanisms. Little Priest they sing about never knowing when a politician is going run.... in the UK, we say stand for election never run for office. Throughout the show, there are snippets that just don't seem right. Much of it seems a very American idea of Victorian England, a lot of which was cut out in the film. As with British stage actors doing US shows, sometimes the accents sound bizzar🤣
@@old.not.too.grumpy. It's definitely got a lot of American phrasing in it. But I do wonder why the English would turn away a show because of some Americanized phrasing, but in the US we have English filmmakers and actors making countless stories about America. Heck, Alex Garland made a film about a fictional US civil war and Chris Nolan made one about one of the most famous American scientists in history just this past year.
@KevinOrzel difference in the culture in the two nations best expressed Waiter trips and drops glasses in a bar. USA .... concern for waiter welfare UK..... everyone I'm bar laughs and cheers. We laugh at the murders in Sweany Todd and that people eat the meat pies
Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!! As an Irish person I don't often find some of the silliness funny, I much prefer the darker interpretation, I think Tim Burton nailed it - keeping the humour dark and still funny and leaning into the darkness of it all. This production is exceptional but you're right different sides of the pond interpret it differently
I was only abt to watch it from a school marching band trip I had to pay in installments at a discount, I feel u man, but if you ever do get an extra ~120 dollars, its worth every penny.
@@TechGregNYC It will be taken down with such a noticeable title like that though. I agree with the commentators saying it; please change it into something so that it won't go awry with the you-know-what, if you desire to, of course...
Updating this list as I watch, but so far what’s missing is: - Green Finch and Linnet Bird - Johanna - The Ballad of Sweeney Todd (“Sweeney Pondered and Sweeney Planned,” after The Contest) - Wigmaker Sequence/The Letter - Beginning of “Final Sequence”
Thank you so much. We saw the show in March but we were in the front row on the right side of the theatre, and we couldn’t see some of the key scenes in the second act. It was wonderful to watch the show again. I loved it!
absolutely love. thx so much. just a heads up for anyone watching, rly doesn't matter, but the whole sequence from Wait until the killing of Pirelli is out of order in the editing. It happens between the contest and the judge/ladies in their sensitivies scene
Sweeney is one of my favorite musicals but I wasn't the biggest fan of this production, specifically the choreography. That being said, Joe Locke is by far one of the best Toby's I've ever seen.
Anybody know if the Groban/Ashford video exists? I don’t know why they would make a studio recording of the audio but not record the video and sell it.
Oh, the ultimate stupidity - holding the phone in the vertical (portrait) position! Is a stage tall and narrow?, no, it's wide - turn the bloody phone on its side (landscape). Ever been to a movie theater, looked at a TV or video screen? And that's for starters. Fortunately, it's far from the best version of Sweeney Todd ever staged, so it's not such a great loss. Yes, Sutton Foster is excellent, but the portrayal of Sweeney is awfully weak. There should be some mechanism that blocks uploads like this.
This is really bad for Broadway. Anthony is often off key, Todd sounds like a pop star, and everyone is slightly off key. And the beggar woman is really bad.
@@GregB011 The original is available here on youtube. Both the George Hearn and the Len Cariou production. One can see for oneself or should I say hear for oneself the enormous difference in the voices. Also the OBC is available, because is has the original Anthony (Victor Garber) compare his Joanna and even No Place like London. This is an extremely hard musical to do. The harmonies are extremely complexed. Here are some reference points I am sure that I am not that sophisticated and that anyone with relative pitch can hear the difference. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ISp5sjaSnl0.html&ab_channel=DamienSlattery Though this is poorly filmed you can hear the difference. And here is the OCB ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TjC3v--uiak.html&ab_channel=LenCariou-Topic I am not saying that the production value in this update is bad. If this were a college or community theatre production, it would be acceptable. But when you are pay $128 to sit in the seat farthest back, you don't want the former nor the latter, at I least. Given the screams in the audience, I suppose Sweeney Todd is play by some Pop Star and that not the show is the attraction. This sets and costumes are very nice though and staging is a bit amateurish but adequate.
@@robbey10 I had the pleasure of experiencing the original production with Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou in the early 80s, which remains my first and favorite musical. George Hearn also delivered an outstanding performance. This current interpretation diverges from the original, so those expecting an exact replica may find themselves disappointed. Nevertheless, I found it both entertaining and nostalgic. The production won a Tony Award for lighting. For this performance, a stand-in played the role of Anthony, though I believe the regular actor excels in the part. Your critique seems a bit harsh, as many have enjoyed the show and attended multiple performances.
@@GregB011 Then you know. I saw it with Len Cariou in New York and then with George Hern in Los Angeles at the Dorthy Chandler. Both times were excellent but there is something about Len's voice that just carries it over and it is very hard to recreate whatever it is he had. Though I did appreciate Kelsey Grammer and Christina Baranski perfomances. My problem is that I do have perfect pitch so ever little off flat or sharp my ear picks it up, and there are a lot of them in this production. It is a hard score to sing and you need people who beyond the scope. I wasn't wasn't happy with Sutton Foster's Mrs. Lovett because she gets really pitchy and it isn't the same as Angela whose voice was not perfect but it had a certain quality that brings it once again out of the ordinary.
@@robbey10 You were looking for a replica of the original and consdier anything other than that a disappointment. Its a different interpretation. Sweeney and Lovet are played by Tony Award winning actors. I could be argued the Tveit was not suitable with his tenor voice, but I think he pulled it off. This is definitely better than a community theater, however, if you don't like it, you don't like it. I saw you comment negatively on a Cabert video as terrible where many in the commentors felt a connection to the character. Seems as if you fell theater should fit your standards or not done at all. I try to approach theater with an open mind. Even I prefer a alternative style, I can find appreciation for the intent of the performance.
Aaron Tveit has a gorgeous voice and he's a talented actor. Unfortunately, he doesn't fit this role. His voice is too beautiful and his face is too young to play a man who has experienced the depth of betrayal, and the brutality of the Australian penal colony. I wish neither of these talented actors tried these "English" accents.
I feel like Sutton was the only actor here who truly lived her role as Mrs Lovett. I completely agree about Aaron, I’m a wholehearted Tveit girlie but he just simply doesn’t fit well as Sweeney.
I've seen this production 5 times and with Aaron being in the role twice. I totally agree with you that this role wasn't a good fit for him despite his talents.
I hear what you are saying. I was privileged to see the original with Angela Lansberry and Len Cariou in 1980 when I was 11 years old and have been hooked ever since. Between Arron being a Tenor and a little too clean cut, I get the arguments but still loved his performance and interpretation of the role. Fun fact, Aaron is the same age as Len Cariou when he did the role. Arron had more of a quiet, calculated, controlled anger. I felt Groban was more of a sad, pathetic sole. It could be argued the Groban was too likable for the role Neither us of are right or wrong, its all subjective. I saw this version several times, including the closing performance, which was incredible, all the actors really gave it their all. Im thankful for this production, it brought back many memories and I was able to introduce this incredible musical to my young daughters, who are now also Sweeney fans!!
I get it, but it's always nice to see a change on how Todd's played. He's got a sort of a Dorian Gray thing going on - the surface is pretty and smooth, but the reality of what he's experienced breaks through when "Sweeny" comes out.
Beautifully sung. Beautiful music. Acting is missing the Grand Guignol (all too filmy) though a few are circling it but none in the design (make-up, set & costumes). Sort of looks like they were going for German Expressionist Cinema via the stage lighting. It's all underwhelming in the consideration of the $$$ you pay for the Great White Way these days.
I am honestly bewildered. I quite like the look of the production, though it is nothing special. But the audience are even more horrible than the miscasting. It'd never fly in London.
OH MY WORD THANKYOU SO MUCH i've been waiting for a slime tutorial of this for so long.. BUT PLEASE CHANGE THE TITLE!!! slime tutorial bootleg pie tutorial anything!! people deserve to see this !!
Thank you for this so so much! Will you be able to upload one for the Romeo + Juliet coming in October, only if you're going of course? I want to watch Kit's performance too. 💓💜
As much as I am not a fan of the like, interpretative Dance like of vibe the opening and closing numbers have. The pulling Sweeny out of the floor, and Sweeny and Mrs. Lovett jumping into the floor at the end is a really good effect.
