“Sweet Child O’ Mine” is a song composed and performed by an American rock band, Guns N’ Roses. This song appeared in their first debut album ‘Appetite for Destruction’ in 1987. This album became a hit a year after its released due to Sweet Child O’ Mine gained popular attention in 1988. The song hit #1 in America in September 1988 and stayed there for 2 weeks while the band was touring as the opening act for Aerosmith. Guns N’ Roses has gained so much attention within that year and were chosen for the cover of Rolling Stone for the November 17 issue.
“Sweet Child O’ Mine” was used in numerous films, the most recent being in the 2022 Marvel film : Thor - Love & Thunder. It was used as the teaser trailer, several scenes in the film and in end credits.
For the drum cover, it is not a difficult song to pick up (for my level) as it has quite a straightforward, repetitive drum patterns and manageable fill-ins / breaks. However it is a challenge to play it perfectly on time esp for recording 😅. For me, it is due to the fast tempo and the length of the song. I still need to work on playing steadily at long repetitive patterns without going off the tempo.
This is my 4th cover on the drum. It’s a fun song to play and a workout too… practicing it for more than an hour is equivalent to 20 mins walking up the hill slope 😛haha.
