I'm 53 and I really wish I would have heard of the SCB when I was first introduced to "some" Christian music when I was 11yrs old. I would have loved these guys, as well as, all the other bands I'm just now discovering from that era that I did not know about. I didn't start fully listening to CCM until the 90's. I fell in love with Bryan's voice. For some reason I still had not heard about the SCB. It wasn't until I saw "The Jesus Music" doc. Absolutely loved it! Now I am obsessed with listening to SCB and other bands from that era.
I was saved in 1978 and went to a lot of these concerts, bought all the albums. I've always thought that I could feel the Holy Spirit within the tracks of the old Contemporary Christian music. There's just something about the scripture written within and how they designed the music around it all. I left church going for a number of years and when I came back the the Calvary churches I couldn't relate to their worship music. After knowing what the Jesus movement was like, to be honest, I can't stand the repetitive worship style they now use. It actually feels like indoctrination rather than worship. Christians don't need to repeat , "I'm not worthy" for 10 or 15 minutes per song. That's not the Love of God in my opinion. There's something restorative and Glorifying in these old Jesus freak days music. When I need to worship I do so on the computer or listening to my old christian records. And here and there, after Calvary Wednesdays, I ask the sound guy to play some Daniel Amos, some Sweet Comfort or Darrell Mansfield and on and on. It's kind of weird watching the mood in the room change as people are walking around and conversing. It's like the Peace of God has overtaken. But hey, what do I know, it could just be my imagination.
Bryan’s voice just oooozes SOUL! This band totally rocked. My favorite concert was at the Roxy in Hollywood. I felt sorry for the cocktail waitresses since few people were drinking alcohol and they weren’t making much in tips. They didn’t seem too happy ☹️. The audience on the other hand was extremely overjoyed. SCB was totally on their game and sounded as good as I’d ever heard them and I’d seen them A TON OF TIMES. I loved the Way, Wing and a Prayer, Parable, Good News, and all the other Maranatha bands but Sweet Comfort and Aslan(In His Name) were the bands that rocked my world back in those days. Definitely one of the best bands to come along in Christian music. I noticed how Randy's playing you hear here sounds a bit more Allies feel. For those who don't know, Randy was one of the instrumental key players in Allies with Bob Carlisle. Bob also does beegees on some of Bryan D's solo stuff as well. Both bands make my top list favourites for sure. Thanks for sharing this @Scott Hanson.
