To reply to your question they were trying to kill country music like this to pop it up dawn is the best singer I have ever heard next to pasty cline I would love to see if Carrie underwood can sing this song and keep it going years to come
@@onealfarms9967 I would rather hear Mandy Barnett singing this instead of Carrie. She is another underappreciated singer, but she could do this Mickey Newbury song justice. So could Wendy Moten.
I have been in this business for a long, long time. This is my favorite live recording of anyone, anywhere. This song, this band, this singer was put on this stage at this very moment to do something magical and they did. God bless whoever captured this video and audio footage so the rest of us could be inspired by this incredible, heartfelt, selfless performance. I feel blessed to have heard it and inspired knowing that sound I've always heard in my head and in my heart really exists.
I agree Phil Vandel. This is a once in a lifetime performance. Kills me every time I watch it. What a singer and incredible gathering of players, just beyond words...
This song was meant for Dawn Sears to sing. I have watched it MANY times. This is the first time I ever noticed, a poster behind John Hughey has 12 Oct on it. Today , 12 Oct 2002,my wife and I would have been married 18 years, she passed away in July.
I,ve just lost my beloved wife of 56 years ,after 5 day illness, and I,m so comforted by Kenny Sears attutude to losing Dawn,to cancer. He thanked God for allowing him to spend 20 plus ye
+Dorothy Douglas , i had came across Dawn, but in youtube videos. Not too long ago. I knew of the timejumpers and vince gill etc , and listened to a few of their tunes, but that was it. That night I came across Dawn, it was like wow, what a voice, I believe her. So I thought I have to see this singer. This a few weeks ago. Never new what happened. I was planning a trip to go see them. A friend of mine , sees them a lot , I texted him and told how she just capitvated me. He didn't answer. Later that night my phone woke me up. It was him asking me, John you know Dawn died dont you? I was in shock. I was sad, and angry , it is like I only got to experience her for a week, thru videos. I feel cheated. I come back here each time I come into my studio, and play these videos. Its weird, I didn't know her , but watching her sing , I feel like I have know her. It is frustrating. I want to see her sing live, and its gone. She is one of the most pure voices I have heard. Watching her sing, she means it. Its very very heartbreaking .. I cant imagine how her husband must feel. I feel for him. This videos are up, and it has to be hard. Dang Dawn . I hope I see you on the other side .. to hear your lovely voice again.
+John Zagmester, I know how you feel, I was the same. I found her about 2 years before she passed and feel like I lost a member of my family. And Papa John Huey has also passed on, making this a special video of the two of them. God rest their souls.
JohnZ111, I am sorry you missed Dawn. She was The Best Singer, Nicest Woman, Sweetest Person... it always blew my mind that the label idiots didn't support her. They wanted Pop Country and she wasn't that. She was simply Pure Talent.
I listen to this at least once a week. Besides it being in my top 3 best ever performances, it reminds me of some wonderful times going out dancing. What a fantastic voice and band!
I, ve just lost my wife after 60 years as partners and best friends. This recording is helping me so much, especially as I know now just how Kenny suffered when Dawn passed away, and how well he has kept going. Wonderful, talented and inspiring people. Thank you all.
I found Willie Nelson’s recording after my wife of 30 years died. There are so few songs dealing with the death of a spouse. I fell in love with this song. A friend recommended I listen to this performance.
What more can be said about this performance that has been said? I love it and keep coming back to hear the sweet sounds. The steel guitar solo sends shivers up and down my spine. RIP Dawn Sears, your angel voice was our great joy to had the pleasure to enjoy.
I was privileged to sing on this very same stage with this dream group at the Station Inn. Nobody could mix the charm the feel, the musicianship, and the love like the Time Jumpers. Rest in peace, Dawn and John.
Every time I go back and listen to Dawn singing this it takes my breath away. And I don't mean that figuratively, it literally causes me to stop breathing momentarily and have to catch my breath. She owns this song. It will never be done better. May you rest in peace Dawn.
I already knew what I was going to post but wanted to read a few other people's feelings about this performance and after reading this post by you James Sterling, I have no reason too now. Every word you wrote was my feelings exactly. Down to the catching your breath.....It reminds me of a great song by the great Ricky VanShelton called "I meant every word he said" I meant every word you said James. If anyone doesn't recall that song, look it up and listen. I've gone back at least 30 times since Dawn passed away and have Sweet Memories on several Playlists throughout my phone. She gives me goosebumps. She took that song and made it her own. I think the Time Jumpers just nailed perfection. With a live performance at that. A lifetime award for best live performance of all time would be in order.
I have watched this performance many times and I'm still drawn to it. It is just perfect and that is something I rarely say about music. I wish I could describe it. Such an angelic voice backed by world class musicians...each adding their own tasteful and subtle additions. This is is powerful and just good stuff!
I watch this, oh so many times, it is just pure country. I would have loved to have been be able to jump up from the audience and hold Dawn in my arms and thank her for, well, the pure emotion she was able to instil into this, and all of the songs she performed. Just magic. As for John, perfection. Just exactly what a steel player should be. RIP both of you, I miss you.
One of the best performances I have ever seen by some of the most talented people on the planet. If you don't comprehend Country music then you will never be able to appreciate how good all of the musicians are on this stage. When I was a young musician playing Rock music I didn't get it. I had to mature as a person and musician to understand the melodies and appreciate the style. AWESOME!
What they are doing musically is way harder than most rockers will get, until like you (and me, another former rocker) finally figure it out. Amazing playing and musicianship right there. Oh, I still like to rock out, but THIS music is where my heart is.
so very well said.....1973 bought my first steel in UK and yes I was in a semi well known rock band back then....Mickey Newberry and Weldon was my inspiration then. and, yes the the time Jumpers rule!
Dawn Sears will never ever die in my heart. She was the real deal and her singing lives on forever. She was a teacher of country music and many of us got taught for free. Legend. Hall of Fame material. Wife. Singer. Mother.
Well put sir! She may not have received the right songs when she was trying to make it as a solo artist but if I were one of those song writers who passed on giving Dawn a chance to record their song or the label companies looking for clones of Faith Hill and Shania Twain, shame shame shame. See and listen to this performance then tuck your tail between your legs look down at the floor and GO ON AND GET! Get outside with the rest of the PIGS!🐷
Every single person you see here is a gifted musician or singer. Those three fiddles playing in perfect harmony, pedal steel is magnificent, and of course the vocals. I saw Dawn in one of her final performances with the Time Jumpers. Gordon Motes was playing piano that night. She sang "Crazy', and I literally wept. I still can't think about the power of that performance and not shed a tear.
A Mickey Newbury 'masterpiece' composition. Not only did Dawn Sears does the the most moving and emotionally evocative version of this beautiful ballad but she dedicated it to the 'memory' and musical beauty of John Hughey,my favorite pedal steel player. Thanks Dawn !
I had the opportunity to see Dawn and this group play about a month after Papa's passing, JOHNS widow in the front row as Dawn sang this to her, OMG.... NOT A DRY EYE, Dawn had a difficult time finishing the remainder, How sad, JUST WOW ...WOW...THE BEST THERE CAN BE!!!!!!!
+Dorothy Douglas very classy, . There are a only a few singers for me anyways, that like draw you in. I can picture everything, she is singing. I don't need a produced video. But yet this is it. This is all I get . Emotion, rules. I have said it in other posts, she owns the song. No matter what she sings, its sounds like its new, I don't even think of the original artist. I am still going see the time jumpers some how. Then I found out that John the steel player is gone too. ugh,
Just a great song performed with excellent vocals, wonderful band including one of the finest pedal steel guitarists the world has witnessed. Thank you all - especially John hughey
Dawn's voice is amazing. John Hughey, just so wonderful. You'll never hear this on the stupid radio. There, i said it. Thanks to my departed friend, Bill Rehrig, for turning me on to this group a few years back. I miss you, brother.
I will never forget watching this performance live. The look on Kenny's face as he listens to his wife preach the song is priceless. The pedal steel has just as much emotion as the song itself. This is why these folks are the best of the best.
No one will ever Find , anywhere, such Sweet Harmony ..As this Group gives us.. Their Music Contributions Will Never Fade Away....{ Not long as WE Want To Keep OUR Memories. AND Who Doesn`t ? } The Time Will Come to us All...if we Live long enough...That Our Memories ARE What we turn to In our Lonely Hours...While Everything and Everyone else is ASLEEP.
Best version ever.. I can listen to this song and that sweet and beautiful voice of Dawn all day long.. and I actually do, it touches my heart every time.. I never heard of her, here in the Netherlands and then to sadly find out she allready passed away.. this angel will be missed.. the band playes so sweet and respectful.. class musicians..
I could write a ten-page review on the excellence of this song and video. Having spent nearly twenty years on stage working with a vocalist of this caliber, I can tell you, I feel their love of song. I've been there. And as to Papa John (God rest his soul), He appears to be a humble man and truly spoke the voice of God with those ten-strings. This is probably the BEST live perfomance I've ever heard!
Beautiful voice. Dawn you will be missed. RIP You won't have to battle cancer any more. You can sing up in haven with the great country music singers from the past.
To watch this woman suffer from terminal cancer before our eyes was horrible. For a brief time a tape she cut in her hospital room was shown. She wept and lamented of how she just wanted to return home and out of hospital. I knew this had to be a nightmare. I've been there. It hurts. What a VOICE ! Mr. Hughey was a rare magician !
I've watched this probably 20 times now and it still gives me goose bumps every time. Dawn Sears and John Hughey ( may he rest in peace) are PERFECTION! It is a crime that Dawn doesn't have a major recording contract in Nashvile. The lyrics to "Murder on Music Row" couldn't be more appropriate. Prayers for Dawn to have a complete recovery. I hope to make it to 3rd and Lindsley soon on a Monday night to see her and the rest of the Time Jumpers.
Reminds me very much of the duet of Dottie West and Don Gibson. I just about wore out the grooves on their album, and this song was my favorite track. This is just as good.
I am happy Dawn is no longer suffering, that she is face to face with Jesus and rejoicing in the greatest freedom that ever was and is to come. But, I am sad for us, her voice was one of the finest that I have ever heard in my lifetime. My condolences to Kenny and their family and their friends.
As a steel player I'm always awed by John's intricate playing and the delicate touches he always placed in the songs he played. Aside from that, Dawn Sears and the entire rest of the group are the best I've ever heard. Country music, as it is today, needs to take a long, hard look at the talents and popularity of this group and get back to its ROOTS. There are very few country artists around today who can produce this kind of material and it's at the very heart of REAL country music.
I've studied country music my entire life, I saw Hank Williams Sr live on stage at the Ryman in the early 1950s, and I've pitched my songs in Nashville since 1961. I also played in nearly all of the clubs, honky tonks, and skull orchards on the KY/Middle TN state line for many years. I think the time jumpers are very close to the best I've ever personally heard, and I also think Dawn Sears was (and is) the best singer, male or female, that's ever been in Nashville.
This is one of my favorite country song that I only play while thinking on one of my very very few sweet memories.Written by my friend the GREAT MICKEY NEWBERRY!! Sang BY DAWN SEARS with the Time Jumpers. The wonderful steel guitar solo is played by THE LEGENDARY JOHN HUGHY.Very very powerful song!!
Chillingly beautiful, classic country perfection, and in a LIVE performance! Nothing better ever came out of the most expensive studio in Nashville. The "labels" should be ashamed.
The incomparable gift of the Angelic voice of Dawn Sears touched my heart and soul so deeply. Gone much too soon 😓 So thankful for Videos and Records like this that lives on forever. "Sweet Memories" is my favorite as I reminisce of my beloved husband of 42 yrs. Rest In Peace sweet lady and thank you for sharing your God given gift with us 🕊🌹🕊♥️🕊🌹🕊♥️
So sorry to hear the sad news of Dawn Sears leaving us. I loved listening to her sing. When she and Vince would sing together it was so beautiful. Now Dawn is in heaven on the front row singing her heart out. Will miss you so much. Harriet Duran
Oh God! The last I read she had to stop singing because her cancer had progressed but I did not know she had passed on. What a loss. She was, in my humble opinion, one the greatest female country singers ever. My sympathies to Kenny and all who loved her.
I may have posted about Dawn and the Time Jumpers before but I can't see it here. I must return to this video a couple times a month just t hear the angelic voice of one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Knew of Miss Dawn while see was singing backup (not really) to Vince Gill and knew instantly Dawn was something special. Had the great opportunity when I met Vince and his band many years ago. Many words can describe perfection, but you only need, Dawn Sears. And the band is pretty damn good too. Lord how I miss Mrs. Sears
What an amazing group of very talented artists!! The musicians are incredible... Ms. Sears... wow!! Beautiful just doesn't describe her... I could listen to her sing every minute of every day... forever... Captivating in it's mastery❤❤
No one but no one can sing this song like Dawn Sears, I fell in love with her the first time I heard her sing and PaPa Hughey absolutely perfection. God has some good music up there.
I have seen hundreds if not thousands of acts but none as powerful as what I have seen here by all musicians. It almost brought tears to my eyes / such a shame that Dawn had to leave this world at such a young age. A great Singer and a Great Lady !!!!!
MY LORD!! What hole have I been in for the last twenty years?? What a voice! Had I closed my eyes, I'd have sworn that Patsy Cline had been reborn! And those musicians ! Incredible. (and good-looking too!)
First time I heard dawn and John was on the Ralph emery show on channel 4 I think I was 7 or 8 years old and was so I love with her voice I never understood why a big label never picked her up
