This was not only exciting but also very relaxing to watch. Even the interaction with your lady with the camera was very enjoyable. Thank you very much for your video.
Thank you for sharing the joy of your awesome harvest! My, husband, son, toddler and I enjoyed watching that. Now everyone wants to try growing sweet potatoes on our patio this year!
@ Bob don't think it is a waste of time. We learn from sharing our knowledge and experience with each other. Don't be ... stingy and sarcastic when sharing what you know. One day someone may have a nugget of info for you but not care to give it due to a snide comment. I don't wish that for you so I AM sharing that nugget.
@@stephaniebell9093 I’m sorry no disrespect , but RU-vid is a great learning platform, yes, but I (people) don’t appreciate when other people making videos to apparently show you something , when they are NOT very knowledgeable and Shouldn’t really post. Some like to hear themselves talk rabble on ..... If everybody did this , we would Waste More Time trying weed Thru the non-sense to learn ! I’m sorry but people need to hear these comments too so they will Not to post Just To Post something!
@bobt471 so Where's your video? I learned you can successfully grow sweet potatoes in a 20 gallon bucket, how much I can expect to get per bucket, growing up a trellis was smart... Don't be a dickhead
Just to let you know, and it is only what I have been told as I am a "Newbie" at growing sweet potatoes, you are not supposed to wash them right away and you should put them in a shady spot to dry out and cure for a few days. Also I have been told that sweet potatoes don't become"sweet" until a couple of weeks after harvest. Like I said, I am new to this so , don't shoot the pigeon, I am only passing on what I have been told. Anyway, good luck, hope you enjoy your harvest, you have a great crop there. Take care and stay safe, Sandie from Ontario Canada.
That's some good advice. I have heard some of the same. This was my first harvest and I am now growing my 3 time so we constantly keep learning from each other. thanks!
I don't know if anybody said this already but your Nuts and Bolts coming from squirrels and things, they love hiding things. BEAUTIFUL FANTASTIC HARVEST...you got the touch, keep growing Julues
I am so excited by just looking at what you got. It's really a pleasure to watch you guys as I also a sweet potato farmer, just a beginner he he..❤️🇯🇵👍🏼
What a gorgeous harvest. I wonder what kind of tea you could make from the thin smaller roots? Also, my mom taught me to plant the potatoes in the bottom, once the plant flowers, add more dirt to cover. Continue this until the end of the season. When you dump your bucket, you should have layers of potatoes.
The ideal container will be shallow and flat not bucket so that the twigs can crawl and produce more SP because thats what the twigs want and the SP want to feel the sun so they stay on top of the bucket. Ideally or the best is plant them on the ground with a mixture of rough Sand and coconut husk shredded and compost; see how much harvest you'll have next time.
Every time I go to watch a video I look at the time first and do I really want to spend that much time on this video but this video was worth every minute thank you
Best sweet potato harvest video. Relaxing and exciting to watch, you didn't skip anything or fast forward or turn the camera away. Was great watching you discover them with your hands, felt like I was there. Great harvest too :)
My hubby did that all over the yard. Plus he built 4 more raised beds. I have no room for my flowers.....:( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vCXzrMApE50.html
I have grown sweet potatoes and other potatoes by placing the slips under a foot thick cover of dead leaves. When the vines die, just rake the leaves off and pick them up.
Wow can't get any easier than that what are you get sweet potato slips from I want to grow sweet potatoes but I don't even know how to start I live in town but I have a front porch and a balcony to grow things on that's pretty good Sun just don't even know where to start
Thelma Edwards Poole Hi.. I tried that in my backyard I had a garden spot in backyard..they did nothing..I did much better any gigantic landscape pots ..you can get them free where they’re putting in apartment complexes or re landscaping..they are at the dumpsters piled up..I had a nice harvest from those big pots ..but putting my slips under the leaves didn’t do anything..It could have been the gigantic tree that shades my garden I don’t get very much sun .. that’s why I have to plant in the middle of the yard in pots..
Lori Sanford It’s very easy. Go to the grocery store and look in the organic section of the produce department. Select the type of sweet potato or yam you want to grow. Be sure that the tater is organic and has a decent number of dimples (those will be the eyes). You grow the slips by putting sections of the selected tater in containers of water, using skewers or toothpicks to suspend the sections. You can also search “sweet potato slips” here on RU-vid to have it fully demonstrated. It’s insanely easy and fun too. Good luck!
@@katlynnsmith7547, it was not getting enough Sun & wet soil. It needs loose soil. Water less often & just enough amount of water. The ground must be well drain off. Tree leaves are one of the best plant nutrients feed. You must keep adding the Leaves when they breaks down & dried up. If you plant in pot it must be wide & at just 1.5 foots deep. Drill lots of medium size holes. Place slips 2 foots a part to get a better shape, single, & more yeild. Lot of plant foods & fertized at least once a month. Place plant food & fertizer in between the spacing. Gave each slip equal amount of both plant feeds. If use the ground you have to place metal screen on all sides including the top surfaces. Squirrels & other ground diggers will eats all your havest if not. It takes 5 to 6 months to grow before harvesting. It loves the Sun with at least 12 hours. All day sunshine. If you have land do composing. Use all your Kitchen wastes. As for Egg shelves wash off the Whites & Yokes clean. Then dried off & crumble them before adding to compost pile.
I cook Sweet Potatoes in my NuWave oven for about 25 minutes and peel them and mash them, add butter, cinnamon and honey from my bee hives. really good.
I used my sweet potatoes as a ground cover and after two years I had self seeding and continuous harvest. This year is my first in a raised bed so it will be interesting. Don’t mistake tubers for roots. Put them in a paper bag in a dark place and plant them out when ur ready again
seeing you be upset about the noodles but then immediately going to improve them is amazing and inspiring to me! i would've given up but you didn't and i really respect that! I love your videos. And it's an honor to have you visit our channel, we can discuss more about our experiences in harvesting and building farms.
Wow what a bumper crop. I'm growing potatoes for thefirst time and i am anxious to harvest them but have decided to give them another month to mature. Also hoping to see some flowers.
I like your correlation to the digging for dinosaurs. So true. With all those vines you could've gotten tons more potatoes if you had kept burying them. Did you ever see the guy who planted just a few of them in a long narrow patch? He just kept burying the vines and they grew all along them, and he got I think several hundred pounds of potatoes! My first sweet potatoes had roots growing through the drain holes and produced potatoes in the ground below. I had to dig them out. So seeing what you did, I'll have to put some netting at the bottom of my pots to prevent that from happening. : )
Yeah, I saw that. Pretty neat you got as many as you did in those buckets! I had a shallow box that I have brought with me when I moved and never did anything to it, but still ended up with 5 medium sized sweet potatoes at the bottom of the box. Now I have to cure them. Ok here's his video. I was mistaken on the weight, but still pretty impressive...I want to do the same thing myself, only in 5 gal buckets. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XhcbQ8X_JqY.html Amazing Sweet Potato Harvest: 139 lbs from 3 Potatoes
Oh yeah, I will probably just plant one in a bucket. Hmm, I don't have full sun in the room where I'm growing my other plants. Maybe I should put a light on them.
Next year, I would try without the container, put newspaper down and plant the potatoes without breaking ground. Might find even bigger potatoes. But this is a cool idea too
I peel, wash and cut my sweet potatoes into chunks and then I put them in a ziplock bag and put some olive oil over them and mix them all with a bunch of spices like parsley, paprika, garlic, onion powder, salt and pepper, ranch powder and a very small amount of chili powder so that you get that mixture of sweet and spicy- I then put them on a cookie sheet and bake them in the oven until they have a nice crispy ness to them and my family gobbles them up!
I could be wrong but I think they got too compacted. Maybe more compost or leaves/ mulch in soil so they dont have to fight to grow. Just an idea. I mean if they can grown potatoes in hay...lol. great job though! Imagine what you will grow next time!!
I read that gunny sacks are a good thing to plant potatoes in...roll the bags down, shovel in some soil, plant the starts & as the plants grow just unroll more of the bag & add more soil. To harvest simply cut the sacks open to access the potatoes. I got used sacks from a local coffee company for free!
The container forced them into odd shapes as they hit the sides, but of course they taste perfectly fine. They made up our thanksgiving sweet potato side dish and we have plenty more for Xmas and beyond!
coldasiceprincezz : in that second bucket he found the holy grail of sweet potato planting material he should set aside some of that for the next planting season
I noticed that your comment was from 2 years ago I was just wondering if you know that now there's a company that sells ugly fruits and vegetables I just saw it the other day come through my apartment complex parking lot delivering some oh they're ugly produce... LOL you get it at a discount so it's all good
It bothered me that you dumped your buckets into the lawn. I would have anticipated that you dump onto a tarp or into a wheel barrow. That way you could reuse the dirt to compost the roots and vines for next years growing matter.
Nice results of growing something and getting them back to eat, I grow pumpkin alright but I had one medium size pumpkin , I am grateful and happy there is veggies to cook for me cos I am vegetarian
Yes, it is. Too bad it takes soooo long....6 month. For the next year we will try to grow some "regular" potatoes, that you cant find at the store. I want to try blue Peruvien and German white potatoes. Baked pumpkin kasha with apples is yummy.
If I was you I’d grow them in the bed that your buckets sat on! As you noticed they grow toward the top as the roots could spread out! Cover them with plenty of mulch!
I usually use a mixture of garden soil, compost and fertilizer. mix it all in and that is it. They don't need much more than that. the soil should be light and loose to make them grow bigger.
Impressive harvest! Did you weigh them? I am trying my hand at growing sweet potatoes for the first time this year. I hope I get a good harvest this fall like you did!
I thinking maybe if you could. do a raised bed a little shallow and do the sides that could be let down maybe with a drip hose.for water . .the vinesneed room good try peggy
It seems that the more tubs you go through, the more bizarre shapes the potatoes take on. I swear I saw one that looked like Abe Lincoln....with hat and all !!! :)
