In today's video, I'm excited to share the process of harvesting sweet potatoes from my grow bags. This provides a perfect opportunity to guide you on when to harvest sweet potatoes, how to take cuttings for propagation, and the curing process to enhance their flavor and extend their storage life.
Having cultivated sweet potatoes both in the ground and in grow bags, I've found the latter to be more convenient for harvesting. Digging out tubers from the ground can be laborious and risks damaging them. Growing in containers, like grow bags, allows for a simple flip-and-harvest method, ensuring every tuber is gathered. In subtropical climates, missing even one tuber in the ground can lead to rampant sprouting and spreading, making grow bags a great choice for small gardens.
While harvesting these sweet potatoes, I show you how to propagate more slips from cuttings and show different methods both indoors and outdoors, for curing the tubers.

Hi Jerra, I'm in Windermere and I have a small garden. I've got a couple 20gallon pots going with sweet potatoes and a volunteer in the ground from last year I have to say that they taste better than store bought. I also raise worms to add to the biodiversity of my soil. Happy Gardening 👩‍🌾👍 ❤Peggy❤

Occasionally I have Tainung #64 sweet potato slips but since I just harvested everything and then re-planted, it is going to be a while before the vines get big again so I can propagate. Check out Cody Cove Farms to see if they get some more slips.

@@JerrasGarden Iorry I made a mistake on the name. It's boniato, a tropical sweet potato.

Wow! So my issue is my vines have grown outside the grow bags and now have rooted in some places into the clay brown soil/ground 😩 do I leave it be or clip them? I was afraid I would damage them. What fertilizer you use and how often?

What if you’re starting from scratch and are not growing sweet potatoes? How do you get slips from a store bought organic sweet potato? 🍠
@JerrasGarden
@JerrasGarden 6 месяцев назад
You would have to grow slips from organic sweet potato tubers which is a whole different process that I have to make a seperate video on. So more to come.

Take cuttings and root them in water or soil. Plant them outside when all danger of frost has passed.

Well shoot. I’ve had them in since December. Well planted 2 in December, another 2 a few days ago, and still have 2 in water. My thinking was succession planting but maybe that doesn’t work with sweet potatoes. Lol. Ur probably rolling ur eyes. Ugh ok I will go plant these last two.
