Sweet - "The Six Teens" Musikladen, 11.11.1974 (OFFICIAL) 

I just came across these Musikladen clips & it does make me angry that Sweet is not praised for the pioneers of metal they really are. You have Andy & Steve who both had a hell of a vocal range, and unsung drumming prowess of Mick. Brian, as usual, stellar vocalist. If you listen to Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and many of the heavier metal bands you can hear Sweet's influence within their music. It's criminal they were not given the props they should have gotten.

Mick Tucker has to be one of the most overlooked and underated drummers of the 1970's! Mick was Really, REALLY Good!

Mad talent. Every rock band today owes something to these guys. Raw, loud, talented, innovative, harmonic. Ass kickers.

I VERY rarely comment anywhere, but can't keep this to myself. Like others, I remember sweet by what i heard being played on the radio, even on AM band back in the day. As I watch more and more of the videos from this show, I became overwhelmed with feeling upset, actually angry for them and myself that all this was kept from us for so long and yet at the same time happy, actually joyful and grateful, to see them like I have never before. I had no ideal that all this was in them. I know by the mid 70's there were others inventing new sounds, new styles and the such, but it feels kinda like this... "holy sh..t, I had no ideal that these 4 guys invented EVERYTHING in and around rock and roll." had no ideal... A very big thank you to all that made it possible for sweet to finally be able to share this with the world, like all greatness should be. Right up there with the all time greats.

No way any band can compete with this - this is outrageous. I had Desolation Boulevard the first day I saw it in the store....and still, I watch this and foam at the mouth and become a rabid rock n roll monster - this is LIVE, RAW, CHAOTIC and ASS KICKING. THe treasures to be uncovered here are endless

We, in Russia, also know and love the SWEET. They somehow got through the Iron Curtain here. Real talent can't be stopped. 4 voices, just like QUEEN and BEATLES. Brilliant! This band had the talent, the songs, mick tucker etc etc, they could have taken the world by storm, what the hell went wrong, just to se all this footage you wonder how good they were. stuff all the poppa joe rubbish, this is the real sweet, hard high energy rock. Just listen to fanny adams, desolation boulevard and give us a wink to get the picture. Suppose bad luck, bad management and poor old brian hitting self destruct some years later diddent help, a great shame.

Ich frage mich die ganze Zeit, wenn ich vor allem die Videos aus dem Musikladen höre, die ja offensichtlich live und kein Playback waren: was bitte war an Brians Stimme nicht mehr in Ordnung? Ja, sie hat sich verändert. Er konnte vielleicht die Höhen nicht mehr treffen, aber die Stimme klang immer noch hammergeil, rockiger, härter vielleicht, aber das wollten die Sweet ja auch! Sie wollten ja weg vom Glamrock hin zum ernsthaften Rock/Metal … ich verstehe es schlicht und einfach nicht, und ich glaube im Nachhinein mittlerweile, dass die Gründe, Brian fertig zu machen und loszuwerden einfach vorgeschoben waren … sorry, so sehr ich alle Mitglieder der Sweet auch schätze ...

A wonderfully raw performance ! The guitar work is killer.

Brian did a truly great job, considering he was still recovering from that bad attack to his throat! He still sounds a little hoarse though. It's so cute how Andy "blows him a kiss" after Brian had hit the high notes! Like in the Solid Gold Brass video at Musikladen where Mick gives Brian a Yeah! for his performance. And Stevie saying "arseholes" makes sense too. I love this interaction and how they stuck together. Such a great band they were!

ugh it angers me how underrated they are. I've always liked their mainstream songs but now -thanks to quarantine boredom- I'm watching and listening to all of their stuff and I can't believe how good they are

I get the impression that Sweet aren't really taken seriously by the sniffy music journalist cognoscenti, but this performance I think shows that they're a band of real craft, musicianship and, yes, sophistication. Not just for the teeny boppers methinks....

Have just read that Brian connolly was beat up and kicked in the throat at the beginning of 1974, this damaged his vocal chords, driving him to drink, but his voice sounds fine to me.

This version sounds way better than the studio one off of Desolation Boulevard. Andy Scott's guitar playing went up into another dimension. Brian Connolly's vocals could have had the mic's volume turned up a bit more.

The Sweet for me, were the missing link from the late sixties to both metal and punk of the late 70s. The 70s glamrock stage gear on TOTP detracts from the excellent musicianship and Brian's highly versatile voice. This song spells out the death of love and flowerpower from the sixties. There riffs that would not be out of place at a heavy metal concert whilst fast energy tracks like Ballroom Blitz are precursors to punk. Truly deserve more recognition than they enjoyed.

This is my second comment on this concert: Sweet was the only band that I know had the balls to incorporate pre-recorded tracks in their live performances: BLOODY BRILLIANT!! ( And have it shown on stage as well!!).

Amazing Live band, brilliant musicians and singers, have never got the recognition they deserve as influences on other Rock bands as they were pigeonholed as a Glam Pop Band by the media and ignored by serious music journalists, it's still sad they're undervalued and underrated, they should definitely be in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
