I was very lucky to have seen this original London cast in January of 1974...I was 19 years old visiting London with my two best friends...Loved the play so much that we went back the next night...
I am 71 years old and I also saw this in London in 1973. I remember Tim Curry appeared on a long runway in the middle of the audience and we just gasped! Nobody else really touches his performance for shock value (at that time). However, do check out Oliver Thornton who reprised the role in the UK in 2013. He is pretty stunning.
Tim is an underrated legend. So many kids these days, teens, and even adults in my generation (Gen Y) have no clue who he himself is. I love him, I love his work, and damn do I ever love stage productions. I wish I'd been alive to be able to see this performed in 1973/74.
I knew who Tim was before I knew he voiced Nigel; not many kids pay attention to voice actors at all. When I was a kid watching The Wild Thornberrys and Rugrats and stuff, I wasn't interested in voice actors; didn't read the credits on anything either. Now as an adult, I could probably pick Rob Paulsen's or Dee Bradley Baker's voice out of anything haha. But a lot of kids and teens couldn't care less. Not everyone is into voice actors, unfortunately. The unsung heroes of the cartoon world, in my opinion. I once made a post with pictures of Dr Frank-N-Furter, Pennywise, and Nigel, and no one could tell me what they all had in common lol
I agree Stage shows are the best! I worked a few shows. I was left stage manager of the Nutcracker....I worked in a grocery store during the day. OMG I hated the piped in music!
Tim Curry was truly underestimated as a singer. My mom had a couple of his records that he cut. I really liked them. I would love to find some recordings of his, if anybody knows where I can find some...?
This was before Tim Curry made himself a famous name. But no one will do Frank as great as he did. He later became known as Pennywise/IT and Nigel Thornberry after Frank. Now, Tim is narrating the new I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and Becel Butter commercials "Cheat on Butter." The guy is just a god in everything he does.
1974..First trip to London from rural Holland village and saw this amazing mind blasting performance...age 15.. let's do the Timewarp again!! wwwwohhhaa
I didn't get a lot of promotion by 20th Century Fox because they didn't have a great deal of faith in the movie. Personally, I think the whole idea just terrified them.
I wish there were a time machine so i could go back to 1973 or 74 (I was 7 and 8 in those days) and see the original play. My college wanted to do the play and approached me to play Eddie because of my resemblance to Meat Loaf. I turned it down because I couldn't sing. They didn't end up doing the play.
My mother recently went to a convention where she got to meet Tim Curry and get a picture with him he was really sweet to her she told him it was an honor to meet him, he thanked her and asked her name so he could thank her for being there. Then she got my sister and I two autographed pictures of Tim from his rocky horror days. She even mentioned to Tim that he and I share a birthday and he chuckled.
Thanks for uploading this original version which is so much better than the movie. I am doubly grateful as I saw the show in 1973 at the Classic on the Kings Road and had forgotten just how strong Tim Curry and all the cast were.
WaHHHOOOO! This guy can sing! Tim Curry and Him are so simular in the song. Wow! I really like this original version! Tim Curry did well with doing the same power on the song. This is a saver for sure.
@nickmandl Uh... No. Curry was not only in the movie. In Fact, he's the only cast member to appear in the same role in every single official production of Rocky Horror up until at least the release of the film. He played Frank' in the original Royal Court Theater Upstairs production run, the Classic Cinema run, the American Roxy run, and in the film. Every other character, at some point, had at least two different actors play them.
actually they were not, Brad Majors was played by Christopher Malcolm, and tho she was not the original Janet Weiss, Belinda Sinclair sang janets parts for this recording. Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick were brought in for the Movie in 1975. but neither were part of the original london cast from the 1973 production.
Frank, Riff-Raff, Magenta and Colombia were the same actors for both the play and the film and I think Meatloaf played both Eddie and his uncle Dr.Everett Scott in the play but just Eddie in the film...
yes brad, jannet, the crimitologist, dr. scott all different in the film. this is the London Cast but the most common cd is the NYC broadway cast live at the ROXY, so Meatloaf did play eddie and dr. scott in the play
