They've booked themself into a corner. You got 3 outcomes and all of them are bad ideas 1. Swerve retains and Ospreay, their new major star, loses way too soon 2. Ospreay wins and basically means you gave Swerve a "Here nigga damn" title reign 3. There's a screwy finish like a draw or DQ and everyone hates those on PPV It will be a good match but this a really bad idea
@@ROSS1270The thing is he 100% could lose but its way too soon. With the way they've booked him him losing should be a big deal in order to progress a story. A loss might slow his momentum unless he gets screwed which Swerve is a face so that shouldn't happen. It would be like if Cody lost to Roman clean at WM 39. It would've immediately shut down Cody's main event push in its tracks
@@theexpertbc1175 how is it to soon forbidden door is like another month away again osprey hasnt lost a match since his debut 1 loss will bot hurt him he wouldve been on the roster like 6 months t that poimt one loss to the world champion wouldnt kill his momentum continuous losses would
We all know why Tony is rushing Will vs Swerve and if Will wins it will prove everyone right. It sucks cause for years we wanted Swerve to be world champion and now that we got it he so far has had the worse booking of any AEW world champion.
I don't understand the fear of Ospreay losing. He going up against the world champion and the top guy in the division, there is absolutely no shame in losing to him, it's not gonna hurt his momentum in the slightest. Also this feels like the beginning of a much longer rivalry rather than a one off.
It’s going to make a lot of people Boo Swerve. A champion who recently went ‘good’ and who needs all the support in the world right now. So, unless Swerve is going Heel again very soon, which he should, then this is not a good idea for Swerve’s own momentum.
@@AdrianBeegoatz the way I see it he'll win at FD via heel shenanigans, promptly turn heel, make a rivalry out of him culminating in heel Swerve vs face Ospreay at Wembley with Ospreay winning. You can also get a third match out of it later on on TV or on PPV. Swerve will be fine as long as the follow up is good.
Me personally, I would’ve had Ospreay not win the international in the first place and just win the Owen Hart Tournament. It is confirmed that the winner of the Owen would be facing the world champion at All In. TK/Booking rushing this match is just an oddball and doesn’t help both parties like Sooplex said.
@@javi994 that’s different he wasn’t ready to be the guy, these are two guys who both the crowds love, plus I think most of you have forgotten Don Callis hasn’t turned on Will which is probably the build but just my opinion. I’m just more hyped for a great match. Not looking into the future just appreciating the now.
This fued will eventually screw either Swerve Strickland or Will Ospreay. With the history of how the Pro Wrestling business has treated Black Pro Wrestlers, all fingers point to Swerve Strickland as a transitional world champion. After that bad booking happens, I'm taking a break from watching AEW, and will focus on watching the National Wrestling Alliance, because TNA Wrestling looks like they will become a WWE developmental, I am not a WWE fan.
One of the main things that people loved about AEW in the beginning was the idea that anything could happen at any moment. It doesn't have to be predictable all the time.
I honestly think we are getting (no pun intended) swerved here. since this forbidden door has more companies involved I’m guessing this will evolve into some kind of 4-way with a representative from cmll and njpw joining in. This way you can get the fans excited for ospreay vs swerve if you still want to do that at Wembley but you don’t have to pin one of them (even though I don’t think ospreay taking a Fall would hurt him at all)
I don’t always agree w/you but this was the best take I’ve heard about this. It doesn’t make sense at all, they shouldn’t’ve had Osprey Even in the Casino Gauntlet
This ppv is already feeling less about the crossover with NJPW. I mean, most of New Japans major wrestlers who participated in previous Forebidden Doors are signed with AEW, the IWGP Champion is from AEW and spends most of his time in the U.S., and so far 2 of the major AEW champions, including the world champ and a guy who was previously one of NJPW top guys, are just going to fight eachother? Seems like New Japan got shafted in all of this, and only their wrestlers seem to realize it.
you’re talking like you’ve seen either promotion. new japan shafted themselves by continuously booking nonsense like KOPW and House Of Torture infront of the real talent. Mox has more defenses in New Japan than in AEW so idk what this argument that he spends his time in the US comes from. and yes this isn’t just a crossover with NJPW bc there’s CMLL and Stardom as well.
Man discussion on Swerve's reign is so fucked up. Everything they do its focusing on how they will fuck it up. When if you just look at how Swerve has been handled so far, its been pretty great. People wanted Swerve to have a major challenger after Christian and he got the biggest opponent he could get outside of MJF. We get the biggest match and now its "I dunno".
A lot of it is the perception of Swerve’s presentation. He hardly ever opens or main events the show as “World Champion”. He didn’t get a celebration the 1st show after winning the belt. He has been going 15 minutes in matches with jobbers. Or, he has been getting beat down by Christian and his crew week after week. The moment he won the championship, his ‘badass’ aura was gone. And Swerve went to just being another guy in the company who carries a shiny belt 🤷🏻♂️
@AdrianBeegoatz It's definitely perception because so many of those complaints don't make sense. He opens shows with a match or a promo and has been the final match numerous times. He opened Dynamite same week he won the title with a match and a promo. He opened Collision that same week with his big celebration promo. Dude is portrayed as a fighting champ like Moxley was. And his matches haven't been against jobbers. Everyone he faced was currently or previously a champion in AEW and abroad. Its the same talent that have given world champions or Ospreay or Danielson trouble in 15 minute matches. He also would get jumped like any face vs a stable of heels and they did stack the odds against him but more often than not, Swerve won most of those times he'd get jumped. Or he would take out like 3 guys on his own. Perception has people really being overly critical on the first black champ. The only wrong move they made with him is delaying his celebration promo to later in the week rather than giving him a match. But other than that, dude has been handled great. People keep raising the ceiling on him even after he got to be world champ.
It’s gon give Swerve a good marquee win over Ospreay having Will’s first loss be there main heavyweight champion it’s still good for him and reason for them go again down the line the story is already there
I think all the fans agree it’s too early but I want to see the story play out. Callus might turn on him and cause him to lose the match. There’s a lot of scenarios in how it plays out so I am not getting crazy yet!
But ain't that ridiculously predictable since that all that don does Swerve can hang on ospreay's level so let swerve have his best match and look like a true champ than this present double standard of the black champ ain't as great as the white ones Swerve will be the worse champ if he only manages 1 ppv title defense now that's a waste of time.
If Callis causes Ospreay to lose, then he would have effectively helped Swerve win. So, I hope Swerve goes Heel again. Because he’s much more interesting as a villain, and it would open up the main event scene better with Ospreay and now MJF coming back. Otherwise… it’s just another example of Tony Khan killing Swerve’s run 👎🏻
Personally: A draw just gives it a whole, "What was the point?" feeling And for the Tiger Driver thing, if Swerve wins, then that kinda makes your NEW International Champion (and the championship to an extent) look weak
@@User-qp6cw the international championship is a mid card title compare to the AEW Championship yes it's already inferior. Ospreay can take a L, Swerve can't
The whole “Tiger driver” story is not appealing to me whatsoever. It’s not even a finishing move he ever used to win matches. Why have they made it such an integral part of Ospreay?
I believe they are going to do that in their match at Forbidden Door os for Will to hesitate to use the tiger driver only for Swerve to hit him with it without hesitating to bring back more of that vicious side that really helped in his fued with Page. And yes I see a possibility of this going to All In.
That was a fantastic main event on Dynamite. I get that people are immediately skeptical, but I'm going to be patient to see how that works out before I judge it. Ask yourself this: which is more important: Swerve's reign, or Ospreay's undefeated streak? To me the former is the obvious choice. This doesn't have to be a title vs title match, Ospreay won the gauntlet match and as such he gets the shot for title fair and square. It's not a heelish move to not put his title on the line, so I don't see his situation comparable with Logan Paul's against Cody. As long as Swerve avoids asking Will to put his title on the line, we should be good, because the minute Swerve drops that question Ospreay will have to accept because that's the babyface thing to do. I've read for over a month now comments from people saying that AEW are not booking their champion properly, that he needs to face bigger threats than Christian. A match against Ospreay does exactly this, and Ospreay will still be a champion if he loses so I don't see a loss being an issue here. Besides, if he does lose, it will be against the AEW champion, which is pretty reasonable. I don't want Ospreay to remain undefeated until All In. Side note: Babyface vs Babyface matches are done all the time, and yes usually in such matches one tends to be more heelish than the other. It can work, but obviously it's not as easy as a direct babyface vs heel scenario.
Swerve is going to retain. Me personally i'd book Jay to win so he and Swerve run it back like they did in the continental classic. MJF vs Ospreay could be a main event for ALL IN though. I would like to see Keith Lee return and win the Owen Hart tournament to face Swerve in London to blow off their feud. Or if Keith ain't healthy, I'd make Ricky Starks a back to back winner to go fight Swerve at ALL IN
This match seems familiar to me. Like the exact thing just happened in another company. Anyway, Ospreay can't use the Tiger Driver, that will cost him the match.
Ospreay should literally be completely fine taking a pin from the world champion, Swerve in kayfabe is the top guy in the whole place so him pinning Ospreay does not harm him at all and helps put a bit more behind a rematch possibly at All In if you have Ospreay win the Owen Hart Cup and be that persistent thorn in Swerves side as a challenger that won’t go away
The world champ should face the very best. Ospreay is regarded as one of the best. I don't see the issue here. I can see a best of 3 series happening between these 2 over the rest of 2024.
You’re wrong. There is an out. Ospreay does defend his title, just not against swerve. So he pulls a double duty, retains, but get hurt. So against swerve, he’s selling his injury from the first match, still gets swerve and run for his money but loses. This is the one and only way I see both guys being protected.
Aew finally gets into a good spot where they are entertaining again, and of course Tony just can't help himself. Swerve could have some great programs with others, build him up with the championship . Same with Osprey and the int'l title, culmunating in their paths eventually crossing at all in. Maybe they do a title v title at forbidden door to stack build swerve even more, and give osprey some adversity. But tony doesnt like long term builds it seems.
I feel like swerve vs osprey at forbidden door is a good thing for one, it definitely elevates the international title, it gives that title more importance. the more likely scenario is Swerve winning and retaining the AEW belt and at the end of the day. I highly doubt that osprey losing is gonna lose his starpower, he has the charisma to pick himself back up after the loss. If anything it will elevate Swerve just due to the fact that this could be Osprey's first singles loss. At the end the day, i feel like both men will benefit from this match overall.
And the fact that most people i hear that are so concerned that Swerve is gonna lose to osprey makes it more important that swerve should win at forbidden door
Exactly, I’m intrigued to see where this goes. Ospreay is 100% losing at forbidden door, every other AEW champion lost their first title shot except Mox and Punk I believe
I completely forgot Will's holding a belt. That surely means Forbidden Door will have both titles up for grabs? Unless someone is turning heel and refuses to put theirs on the line?
I think this match will be used as a setup for Wills big match at All In. I’m thinking Danielson gets involved costing Will the title setting up Danielson vs Will 2 for the International Championship. I agree AEW is jumping the gun big time here.
I know it’s not Swerves fault but with viewership declining its time for a switch to see if they can catch some momentum...And it can set up Ospreay vs MJF at All In which imo is the biggest match they can make
Ospereay will be used as a transition champion to MJF. The Internet will get behind swerve because wtf. And he’ll either end the year with a big MJF feud or WWE showing interest. Its wild when the WWE is a better place for a black wrestler in terms of being used correctly. But it might be.
y’all are too shook for no reason. losing to the world champ doesn’t bury you or halt your momentum in any way and it being this soon only adds to the unpredictability of the outcome which is missing so much in many current title reigns.
That’s what I’m thinking. This is a Top guy vs Top guy match so one taking a fall isn’t damaging. Cody took multiple pins before wrestlemania this year yet he still feels like Superman.how is this any different?
@Yeetusdeletus897 its reverse booking its so ass backwards both just got the belt neither of them need to lose. He saw logan and cody and wanted to do a title v title same thing he did owens tournament gets a title shot cuz or king of the ring. This is like they put the world heavyweight on strickland outta no where then have cody win the us then put them in a match?
@@anakinferrier8632 not every single new wrestler needs a one year long undefeated streak and I hope you know that it’s okay to lose if it’s against the top top guy. you’re overreacting to the largest degree.
@Yeetusdeletus897 bro they announced it the day after triple h did and now he decides to do title vs title next ppv right after king of the ring. It's about the context no shit triple h didn't make it up but he's announcing shit right after trips did it first literally no argument there 😂
I think everyone’s jumped to the conclusion that Swerve is losing this match. In all reality the likely answer is Swerve wins at Forbidden Door or it’s a time limit draw. That builds to the Eventual Rematch at All In. Even if Ospreay wins it’s more likely so he can carry the belt Into All In and Rematch Swerve
Here’s my thing a screwy finish would definitely diminish the match. But obviously will Ospreay can’t lose that early and as champion same with swerve so really bad idea for aew to do this rn
Have Ospreay give someone else a title shot earlier in the show and then have Swerve beat a more beaten down Ospreay. This way Ospreay doesn’t look lame while still allowing both recent champions to have longer reigns
Swerve should've beat Samoa Joe in that Triple Threat match but they waited, he finally won and they've been booking him like a mid carder ever since. They put Moxley's belt over more the following show, had him finally cut a promo on the B show and then made him look weak over the next two weeks. That's when I knew he was a transitional champ just waiting to be fed to Ospreay in Wembley.
The hell is the point of taking the belt of roddy? If they kept that belt on roddy and just didn’t do that match, there’s your easy route for mjf’s return and giving him a belt early which they’d 100% want to do
Maybe ospreay pulls double duty and defends his belt against let's say David Finley so by the time he has his world title match against Swerve, he isn’t 100% because of war Dogs Shenanigans but both don callis family and united empire (setting up an empire vs family fued) even the odds, but the Damage is still done and because of that, he loses so setting up a rematch down the line ospreay can say (if Swerve is still champ) that he didn’t beat him at 100%.
I commented about how its a little too early for this match and they should save it for all in, and an aew fanboy said to me " go watch fking golf, i can't believe people are complaining about ospreay vs swere" he is what's wrong with that fanbase.
I don't watch AEW so I dunno the context of the match Ospreay won, but can't he just come out next week and say he wants Swerve at All In, and determine another challenger for the upcoming PPV?
Once I seen Ospreay hit the ring I knew it was a wrap. I don't know too much about the roster to book a better match up, but at least Vince gave Kofi a cpl months with the belt before feeding him to Brock.
Alright I get what you’re saying but he doesn’t have to put the International Title up and I don’t think it would be that crazy of a thing for him not to do it’s not completely unreasonable as a babyface for him to not put up the International Title
Imo it’s too early for this match. My prediction on what will occur is that they’ll involve a NJPW star in this angle and what will happen is the EVPs (really TK) will make it a Triple Threat and have the NJPW star get the L so that they’ll protect Swerve and Ospreay.
My lord… imagine? Tony Khan screwing Swerve over like that. If anybody should have dropped the title a month after their reign started, it should have been Hangman to Danielson back in 2021
Hopefully hebdont lose, but cant get Kofi v Brock Lesnar out my head. Swerve seems like he got a nice push, but he hasnt even had a rival real rival yet during his run. Hagman was an ok feud, maybe the match end in a draw, or time out. Definitely hope it dont change yet
Where would Swerve Strickland go? The National Wrestling Alliance (lol), to TNA Wrestling, that will eventually become a WWE developmental or to the WWE, where he gets a push then regulated back to mid-card status???
Ospreay is brilliant, but he’s being pushed too much man Like he’s won 2 gauntlets already, a belt and now this And watch him win the hart tournament and probably the tnt Like other wrestlers exist, we know Ospreay is Ospreay
Bro, screw that Title v Title match shit. Swerve hasn't earned that, and I doubt he cares. Run a screwjob finish at Forbidden Door to set up either a Jay White vs Osprey at Forbidden Door, or run the screwjob finish still, and set up Swerve vs Osprey v Jay White at All In. Or hell, screw Osprey's streak, just have him lose at Forbidden Door. That show is literally a cross promotion between two companies to get fans of both to watch the other.
Yeah, I wish they would have done Rush or somebody else and then wait until all in or next year to do will ospreay. If they're going to do it this way, I hope will ospreay loses
There really is no good outcome for this. If Ossperay does win, then that not only makes Swerve look weak for losing the belt so soon, but it also makes Joe look weak for losikg it to Swerve. And since Joe ended MJF's long reign, that may also weaken that reign a bit. If Swerve wins, then your new International Champion looks like a bit of a chump
Think about it... it's not soon will has beaten BD there is only so much longer he can have these legendary matches in the upper mid card. Not only that but there are several pivot direction you can go from here.. you can do a straight loss, which bc he's already champ and since the match WILL be a banger does not hurt will at all, if he DOES win, and the rematch with a far ANGRIER swerve (again BANG ER), then you open up the lane FOR mjf V swerve and mjf v ospreay. 6 months of main event programming that just writes itself
I haven't checked out AEW ever since their UK PPV and I refuse to watch it until MJF gets an AEW title shot again. There is nothing on that show that intrigues me besides whatever Max is doing
This is the one match that should be at AEW Full Gear and not AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. I would have preferred Orange Cassidy Vs. Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Champion at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door and have that match go to a 60 minute time limit draw. Also, Will Osprey is not a face, he is a tweener. So, a double title match could be possible but I don't think it would happen. Why? Well, it won't be a double title match since Will Osprey, a tweener, has aligned with Don Callis who is a heel.
No,it's should be NJPW guys This is AEW X NJPW crossover event, why they have AEW vs AEW in AEW X NJPW event? A wrestler like Tomohiro Ishii,Tetsuya Naito,Yota Tsuji,Shingo Takagi,Zack Sabre Jr,etc deserve some title shot
@@yoshmorita6860 One of those guys will be going after Jon Moxley's IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. I believe that is the reason why the AEW World Champion match is not a crossover match.
Two things will either happen. 1. Swerve goes over and then they run it back at All In for some terrible reason. 2. Ospreay wins (Hangman is the cause) and Ospreay will take on Moxley at All In. I am hoping for the first but the common sense says it’s the latter. Heels and Faces don’t matter in AEW, which one of biggest problems with them. I won’t invest in characters that I don’t respect. If everyone an a-hole, it makes it harder care about them. It’s the reason I hate Moxley.
Bruh, seriously? Y’all really didn’t know they were setting up osprey to take the title off swerve? Almost immediately after beating Joe, people were talking about it.
AEW has too many titles. You make it a unification match, getting rid of the International title, then have the Don Callis family cost him to build to an All In match. It gets rid of one of three mid card men’s titles, sets up the dissolution of the Don Callis family, gives Osprey an All In match, and stops people from complaining that Osprey isn’t going after the World title.
Ospreay def isn’t a bitch if he doesn’t defend his title vs Swerve it’s like what Despy said only bc everyone wants the title it doesn’t mean that you have to give everyone a title shot they have to earn that opportunity just like Ospreay did by winning the battle royal
When it comes to wrestling, AEW is my favorite promotion; however, I can't stand their booking, they made me care about wrestlers like Ricky Starks, Danhausen, Ethan Page, and many other just too fuck up the booking without any proper follow up to their momentum. I've seen enough of them during this 5 years to be almost completly sure that this rivarly will lead up to nothing or they will fumble the bag with the momentum of both Ospreay and Swerve.
I predict that Bryan Danielson is going to attack Will and Swerve will profit from that and take the w.It's perfect because after forbidden door we can get will vs danielson 2 which I think is teased because Will keeps avoiding that tyler driver
Plus+++ I hope Adam hangman Page doesn't screw him out of the title.. this way ( Christopher Daniels sits down with Swerve and says after all in you Will get your rematch.. Christopher Daniels asks him to head team Swerve v elite bc Adam page rejoin the elite for Wembley Maybe a 5 on 5.. then Osprey v Jay White or mjF.. but if they take the title off Swerve This can pander the fans.. (( I came up with it but I hate it) We want SWERVE..
WWE just did Midcard vs Main title so naturally AEW is doing the same thing. Just like how AEW now has digital barricades, front LED apron, and WWEs bad creative from 2019.
@@Yeetusdeletus897 They didn't invent LED screens, but they clearly pioneered the use of them for ringposts and barricades a long time before any other company.
Look at Mercedes vs Willow. Or hell, even MJF returning at Double or Nothing to do... nothing. If the FLAMETHROWERS aren't a dead giveaway, Tony is desperate to improve ratings/revenue now. (Likely for the TV deal) Swerve, despite all his fans and talent, is just a wrestler, and not viewed by Tony as a marquee name. We know this because he has repeatedly not main evented, and has so little set up for him that they had to do a gauntlet to find him an opponent. Osprey is going over, and Swerve won't even have a rematch with him at Wembley.
