Here's an update for the swim platform extension that I installed on our boat last season. Although we were completely satisfied with the performance of our new platform, we were considering carrying an inflatable tender/motor on it, so I wanted to confirm that the weight would be safe. What I spoke to the folks who built it at Swim Platform Ultra (www.swimplatfo..., it was mentioned that the newest kits are now supplied with more robust stanchions, so they sent me a few to use on ours.

Dinghy that's secure underway and easy to launch is fantastic. You'll love it. Put in the plug, lower it in, and away you go in less than 2 minutes. We bought a boat with a dinghy ( + 9.9 + 3 gal fuel + Dinghy Davit ), mounted on an extended swim platform like yours, all added by the previous owner. We got water in the starboard engine a few times due to the back of the boat being deeper in the water and the previous owner didn't correct it. Had to get taller exhaust risers installed which solved it but a $4500 job. Luckily it didn't damage the engines (that we know of yet, but only have 110 hrs since). Making changes to move weight from the stern. Spare anchor is now at the bow. I have room for 3 batteries in the bow by stealing some space from the ample sized chain locker. Switched the anchor rope for all chain. So much easier and secure anchoring. Happy cruising!

Sounds like you're having as much fun working on your boat as I am in ours 😁 What kinda shipmate you running? Any chance you could share a pic on my Facebook Page?

Nothing makes me more nervous than drilling more holes into my boat below the water line... but aside from that.. it looks good!

Nothing better than drilling holes into your boat!!

I was just going to write that. It is what it is and necessary in some situations such as this one, but regardless makes me nervous lol

I've actually drilled MUCH larger holes into the hull, in our last boat, and it never even dank once 😂

It may be worthwhile getting proper sized bolts. For structural bolts, in order to achieve the design strength, you shouldn't have any of the shear load on the threaded part of the bolt. The smooth part of the bolt should go all the way through all the parts. The bolts you have look like the smooth part is not long enough, which means that the bolts won't meet their design strength, whatever that may be. Its probably fine, but I thought I would point that out.

Did you use through bolts at transom or wood screws, what size and what size drill bit.

I used the supplied wood screws from manufacturer.

Are you satisfied with the support of the swim platform? My local service shop isn’t putting any effort to think outside the box and install supports. I did t see these supports on the swim platform ultra website. Do you know where I can get those supports rods?

I got all of ours directly from Swim Platform Ultra, the folks who manufactured the swim platform. Contact them and tell them the Boogaboo Crew sent ya!

We are looking into purchasing a swim platform for our boat. Currently the only platform on the boat is what was factory made, which isn’t very big. I was wondering if you could give me some advice. If we got a swim platform that only extended about another 2 feet from what we already have and had it to where it was flush with the boat rather than having a step-down, do you think it would inhibit the boats ability to get on plane? We weren’t looking at anything enormously heavy. If we had twin engines then I wouldn’t be too worried, but we only have one 7.4 liter volvo penta engine and have trouble getting on plane anyway without using the trim tabs (if there’s more than 3 people on board including all of the crap we bring with us.)

Check out my installation video from last year when I put the platform on initially. Our Sundancer had been equipped with the factory installed 'extended swim platform', which I removed. Although the new one is only another foot deeper overall, having everything on one level makes it soooooooo much nicer! Ease of boarding, ease of moving around on it, even when underway, and the safety are just some of the benefits we're enjoying. Although larger, the new one is considerably lighter than the old one. I have found zero issues with the boat's performance, despite many suggesting that it would drag in the water and slow us down. I seriously can't understand why there are so many negative and worrisome folks in the world 🤔 Another benefit of our Swim Platform Ultra (that's the brand name) is that, even though it does get somewhat submerged when coming off of plane, it rinses off cleanly and dries off in minutes - every time! Although I can only speak for our boat (330 Sundancer), and am not familiar with how it might be in your boat, we are thoroughly impressed with it and would highly recommend it 👍 Check out some of my videos where I show the boat coming off plane, the platform being inundated with water and then rinsing off. I actually use that process to clean the platform. True story 😁

Great idea! Had the same issue with my new Swim Platform Ultra from Transform Plus. I bought one and installed it last year same as you. I have since added a dinghy and wanted to beef up the weight capacity. When I called them they want quiet a bit of money just for 2 additional support rods. No mention of their new design. Do you have any extra parts you could part with? PM me if you can help? Thanks and stay safe. Cheers.

Transom back it's almost four feet. The best upgrade we ever did to that boat!
