Jessica and I head back to Temagami for our first camping trip on crown land and in non operating provincial parks. We started from Matagamasi Lake (one portage over from Wanapitei Lake), where we spent our first night of this 9 day trip. The next morning, we made our way up to Wolf Lake, and set up camp before heading over to Paradise Lagoon for some R&R (highly recommended). Enjoy!

That high-speed portage footage at 15:10 gave me a good giggle. :)

Finally, you were able to finish the edits. The wait seemed to go on forever. We're a long way from Temagami excursions, and I'm afraid of their portages! The portages on this trip, though, were not too bad. Always love to watch your videos, keep it coming. I know there are a few.

The route we went on, the portages were pretty 'Algonquin' like. A good way to break into Temagami if you want to give it a try. Thanks for watching!

Always enjoyable Matt! I love this route - and it was to aid in a June paddling of the Sturgeon that I first bought a eureka NBZ (then under a different name): I would never camp in bug season without one!

I have been thinking of you folks for a while and was wondering when I get to virtually join on your next adventure. Thank you for sharing, I don't think it's easy to do such an incredible job in content creation and production, presumably will full-time jobs. I appreciate your work!

Good to see you two back! How's that new canoe working out on the portages compared to the big bathtub you had?
@MattHaughn
@MattHaughn 2 года назад
Good to be back! Thanks for watching! The canoe is like a feather. Worth every penny. I think I did a 2.5km portage single carry and no stopping without pain. The bathtub would have made us turn around 😂 I hope to never portage that thing ever again

Great canoe route. Did that loop many moons ago, and various iterations since. It use to be a quiet out-of-the-way route, but now obviously well loved. Maybe too much. Upsetting re graffiti at Paradise Lagoon and all the garbage.
@MattHaughn

Agreed! It’s beautiful there. Past the lagoon, there was no other people though and the land was much more respected.

Great video, Matt. What was the parking process like? did you have to call in advance?
@MattHaughn
@MattHaughn Год назад
Thanks! We called in advance, yes. They give you info needed to access the lot. The road in is kind of rough so go slow in a low car.

Matt! Why you no fish? Also, how did you do that speed sequence @ 15:10 ? Was special editing software used?
@MattHaughn
@MattHaughn 2 года назад
Few reasons, I never catch anything when I do fish, I often don't have time to fish and carrying fishing gear is extra weight and a hassle (in my mind). I'll fish on basecamp trips with my brother. After years of camping and fishing, we have collectively caught one 3 inch sunfish. For the sped up sequence, I just record realtime, speed ramp the top and tail and put an effect on that stacks frames giving it motion blur. It's a button in the software I use.

Hey Matt, how are the bugs situation end of June beginning of July? Planning backcountry trip in Algonquin
@MattHaughn
@MattHaughn 2 года назад
It depends. Sometimes it's horrible in some areas of the trip and other areas they are non-existent. I've had worse bus in September than July and the other way around some years. Go prepared and hope they aren't there.

Haha great question! You can definitely buy drink holder attachments if you need a solution. Otherwise a good old Nalgene with a carabiner works for us 😄

Amazing video - we’ve been through there by truck and quad - my boyfriend took me to the wolf mountain summit and it was breathtaking - it’s so steep in some parts that they poured cement pads on the side of the mountain to access by truck or 4x4 and last summer we actually camped where you originally launched. Amazing experience I’m so grateful he took me up there - there were clouds drifting in and out of the hills - I was in my photography glory! Great vid - extensive editing I can tell - curious - I cannot go camping without my lens trifecta (70-200 2.8 - 24-70 2.8 - 150-600 for wildlife) I know gear can get heavy and take up room - what determines what lens you are bringing?
@MattHaughn
@MattHaughn Год назад
It’s a beautiful area for sure! As for lenses, I usually bring an 18-200 kit lens that I use for the bulk of the shots (it’s cheap so if something happens to it, whatever), a wide angle (10-20) and a prime lens (35) for low light.
