That's what always used to happen, but it's so easy to slip down one of the many side roads or go into a shop, then use the backsies to avoid police. Lots of local residents on that route as well, who get their day ruined. Makes sense from police angle to take them up past police station where there's no risk of ambushes or fans slipping away
Police usually walk em up county road ,then down to Station Road which leads to train Station . In the polices eyes it's about containment and keeping em together
Newport would get murdered by Cardiff, Bristol City etc so Swindon are nearest local rivals with similar size fan base Swindon used to see Oxford as most hated, but Newport was easy to get to and never put up too much of a fight, so a guaranteed punch up without huge risks for them - that was many years ago though, so not sure of current feelings
@@nickmullerITFC78 Is that a guess or actual knowledge ? Looking on a map Chester is right up North Wales by Liverpool and Newport is just across the bridge from Bristol, at the bottom of Wales. Swindon is nearer and used to be rivalry with fighting years ago, no idea about now.
@@samolevski1119 funny speaking about cardiff when we’d give them a good fight and even their top man Annis Abraham would admit it that we were bigger than them
I knew of a southampton hardman called Tash now 59 whom admitted the nastiest situation he’d been in was about 20 years ago at Swindon. Saying that It’s a miracle the saints made it past Salisbury without getting homesick 😐
Swindon v Oxford always used to be a guaranteed good one 30-40 years ago with fights before during and after, especially night matches, before the days of cameras everywhere
