Sometimes I imagine what would happen if old composers could come back to life just to listen to today's music. Mozart would absolutely LOVE this and possibly compose an entire symphony for them.
I think many have lost sight of the important fact that this music was written 200+ years ago. This group is merely performing it in a style that is easier for the modern american audience to appreciate. If this is what it takes to get the common american to come to love classical music, then shouldn't we be for it?
Erg leuk om te horen Christy. Ik heb voor zover ik kan overzien nu de gehele uitzending hiervan hier staan. Dan wel opgesplitst in de songs en artiesten. Was idd vet goed. 😏
WONDERFUL / WUNDERSCHÖN ! Und ich bin überzeugt dass Mozart, da sehr oben, die Interpretation von The Swingle Singers sehr gern hört zu. Thank You / Herzlichen Dank Geepereet.
We arrange Bach to jazz, why not Mozart? Many music educators find that students relate to popular music more than classical, so exposing them to mozart in this style is a good way to encourage them to explore classical music.
Where would you draw the line? The way this music is played today, it is ALWAYS a strange arrangement that can never come close to what it was in the times of Mozart: Music never ever could be repeated (recorded). Very few people ever heard the "original". Then, music was copied, simplyfied, played by small bands, whisteled, hummed and sung by people who liked the melody and gave a damn, if it was "original" - as long as it felt good. I like Mozart both ways: Serious AND "without really caring".
… with my comment, I wasn't intending to make a valuable contribution to humanity, I just wanted to, well, comment on the video. But if I made a valuable contribution to humanity, e.g. getting an important person like you to write an intelligent, well thought out reply, all the better.
@Belgarion9989 It is in a style that it would impossible for rats to appreciate, let alone human beings. This could not lead anyone to love beauty, quite the opposite.
1. I've already got a live, thank you very much, which, among other things, included looking for the overture of Mozart's Zauberflöte. At this point, however, I was most unfortunately presented with this crap. As for "artists well respected by a lot of other people" - what does it matter how many other people respect them, I have my own opinion and I state it here, which is what the comments are for after all. Far of reality? How did you draw that conclusion? I thought opinions were subjective.
Another sad troll, determined to spoil the enjoyment of others by very unpleasant , aggressive, exaggerated negativity. You don't have to like it, but many people do. They have a high reputation around the world. I am sure Mozart would have been delighted.
Ah yes, and another thing which should make things even clearer: The fact that the Swingle Singers have cut the overture and completely removed the second part just shows they don't really care about the music, or Mozart. Their "arranging" and performing of famous classical pieces is just an excuse to have something to show off with, because if the pieces weren't famous, or at least written by famous composers, nobody would bother about some random uninteresting bunch of untalented singers.
@paulrandig What are you talking about, "the way music is played today?" who would listen to this except doddering gertiatics who can no longer get their Lawrence Welk fix?
2. Full of hate? Bingo. As I said, I get pretty pissed off when someone presents something under the title of something it has very little to do with (Mozart's Zauberflöte here) AND it doesn't even sound good if viewed independently of the original (of course, all in my humble, far from reality opinion). But of course, it's common RU-vid practice to thumb down negative opinions of a video's subject and to make them out not to be taken seriously. Well, gotta go back to my far from reality life.
@Schamshi are you trolling? If not then u need to calm down. Wtf do you know about singing? How can YOU deem someone else talentless if you're not a professional yourself? Is this how you get enjoyment out of your life? Trolling on videos? Its quite sad actually. If you dont like it simply dont watch it. Or go write to the swingle singers because they, if anyone, just might care.
@paulrandig And also, if you make an arrangement of a piece, at least do it properly and don't just cut the second half away because you are incapable of making it sound interesting longer than 3 minutes. And if you DO make such a significant reduction, at least stand by it and declare that you shortened the original, and don't delude the audience and present this version as an arrangement of the overture, because this is deceptive.
God, these Swingle Singers piss me off so much. They're brutally mutilating good music just so that they can glorify themselves. I don't get how people seem to like, why, almost revere them. They're a bunch of suckers who destroy good music by "arranging" it (i.e. reducing and adapting to their pathetic voices) without really caring if it sounds good, as long as they can run around claiming that they perform "arrangements" of these pieces. Blimey, even the intonation is dreadful sometimes.
@paulrandig Yep, I agree completely and have nothing to say against anything you said. The problem with this arrangement is that it doesn't "feel good", at least for me. I find it just annoying, the pretentious cheerfulness, the sickeningly pseudo-happy faces and the superficial music. In my opinion, if viewed on it's own, it's a short-lived, moderately entertaining, rather fake performance and mediocre singing. If viewed as an arrangement of the overture to Zauberflöte, it's just pathetic.
