Damn, what a blazing run until it looked like the air resistance caught the top of his skis and pulled him forward. His head neck took the brunt of that fall. I hope that the brain and neck injuries are not what they appear to be. Speedy recovery.

@@14Lenka11 Well he ain't wrong in the sense that this year, because of Covid, no audience members were allowed, the only people at the finish line are other skiers and teams plus officials and slope helpers, medics. The applause that was heard was played from the speakers and as you could hear, someone actually physically pressed the 'stop' button after the crash, I guess in order not to make it disrespectful. While I have no doubt out of those at the finish line everyone gasped and held their breath in shock, we couldn't actually hear their magnitude of 'applause to silence'. It was the artificial/playback applause into the real silence.

Once you realize how dangerous this can be on those steep slopes even for a recreational skier at very low speeds and then you see those daredevil riding such slopes designed to push the limits, with their speed well over 100km.h on an icy, uneven surface, fighting with high G-forces, then you realize how much nuts this kind of sport is.. They are wearing a crash airbag to protect the back. And a backprotector. I have never worn a neck brace, but I can imagine that this blocks possibilty to move a lot and is not really useful. Unless in one crash in a decade (or so, certainly veryvery small)

The track was made with a mistake ( at the very end the speed was over 140 km.) while the whole was about 100 km. An hour later, a 26-year-old man from Schwyz suffered a concussion, a broken collarbone and a torn internal and cruciate ligament in his right knee

Kryenbühl hatte am Zielsprung bei Tempo 145 die Kontrolle verloren und war mit dem Kopf voraus auf die Piste geprallt. Back in the day there were no helicopter. No groomed hard consistent "highway slopes" and the ski equipment was weak and unstable compared to today. The skis were not as flexible and the boots not as stiff, nor was the bindings as safe as today. If you watch Kitzbuhel races from the 70's and early to mid 80's more racers crashed than completed the race. Downhill skiing has become much safer.

Great victory, very great athlete but by changing even one of a track like 'LA Streif', one, there is less show, and second: they say "victories count"! But do the stones also know that Peter Fill's victories, and the one that divided it into two heats? Whoever wins is like a half win for me in the end! Cuche's 5, in comparison with Paris's 3 victories over the real Streif and with the green ice, are worth triple. Then for heaven's sake, leave and immediately find the mausewalle and stretches of sliding, technical points, and other crazy points, to get to the Ausbergh take the jump, the traverse and go down at 160km / h until the arrival it takes coroggio just thinking about it to throw down the tips of the skis! However, at the World Championships in Cortina in 2021, some really bad ones for me. Sport without an audience makes no sense. But if he didn't stop for a coffee, Paris would have won with almost 2 seconds over Feutz!

When these things happen: Don't other athletes think like maybe I should quit this sport? It looks so dangerous, every race I'm watching is like extreme adrenaline, only from watching. It's a miracle that nobody died since 1994.

A quote the late Formula I driver James Hunt probably works for this too - "There's a lie all drivers tell themselves, 'death is something that happens to other people'; it the only way you get the courage to get in the car. But even greater than fear itself, is the will to win."
@jw217
@jw217 3 года назад
@@teecee4574 Probably after reading a bit I guess its the professional athletes will to win and maybe even some kind of adrenaline addiction. They describe it as an unbelievable feeling to ski down these mountains. It is also said that fast and risky car driving is also a thing among ski racers. They might love and want more of this powerful feeling of adrenaline and all the other hormones being released.

To me downhill skiers are the toughest sportsatlethes in the whole world. Yes, they try to make this sport safer at any chance, but when ever an accident occurs the reality is that your body has to take the force of stopping from 90kmh- 145kmh within seconds. Broken bones, career ending injurys and even death are always a part of it.

yes believe me many only get back in the starting gate trying to convince themselves its ok to do it. once on the race track all thoughts are extinguished and all your training race training are engaged and your focus is only what you see ahead your heart and adrenaline are at maximum + and your hearing is subdued almost completely and it goes into what feels like slow motion and suddenly your at the finish hopefully...... you as a person are in a altered reality once you push out of that starting gate at this level of competition.

@@01nmuskier Nope. I watched this live in Europe dude. There were lots of wind gusts around the last jump. Many ski teams complained about this on Saturday and the FIS decided to reduce the height of the last jump on the second Downhill to make it safer and for skiers to be less time in the air and less prone to be pushed forward by the wind.
