Mitten im Waadtländer Jura, umgeben von mehreren Hügelzügen, zeigt sich das Städtchen Vallorbe (749 m ü. M.). Die einst dominierende Industrie prägt auch heute noch das Dorfbild. Direkt am Fluss befindet sich das Eisen- und Eisenbahnmuseum im Gebäude der ehemaligen Schmiede. Geradezu berühmt sind die Tropfsteinhöhlen von Vallorbe, welche heute für Besucher zugänglich sind.
Vallorbe, direkt an der Grenze zu Frankreich gelegen, war in den Kriegsjahren ein strategisch wichtiger Punkt für die Schweiz. Die Anfang des zweiten Weltkrieges erbaute Militärfestung Pré Giroud diente zur Überwachung und Verteidigung des Col de Jougne (F; 1'008 m ü. M.). Das in den Fels gebaute Bunkersystem beinhaltet seit 1988 ein Museum.
Am Taleingang zum Col de Jougne überquert das Viaduc du Day die Orbe. Darüber führt die Bahnlinie zur Kantonshauptstadt Lausanne.
In the middle of the Vaud Jura, surrounded by several hilly ranges, lies the little town of Vallorbe (749 m above sea level). The once-dominating industry still characterizes the image of the village. The Iron and Railway Museum is located directly by the river in the former forge. The stalactite caves of Vallorbe are quite famous. Visitors are allowed in the caves now.
Vallorbe, located directly on the French border, was a strategically important locale for Switzerland during the war. The military fortress Pré Giroud, built at the beginning of World War II, served to monitor and defend the Col de Jougne (France; 1,008 m above sea level). The bunker system built into the rock has housed a museum since 1988.
The Viaduc du Day crosses the river Orbe at the valley entrance of the Col de Jougne. The railway line to the canton capital, Lausanne, leads across it.
