It's mostly a mental game when skating! I started out skating goofy 18yrs ago but i ended up skating regular so having both feet to push equally is good same with flip tricks!

So many people avoid switch because it's hard. A nice switch heel or switch flip can assert your dominance in any skateboard setting lmao. You'll get an instant respect u didnt have if you can do em. So learn switch and have fun! It only feels akward at first. You seriously do get used to it.

I'm a beginner. I started in October 2013 and I then I started pushing switch July of 2014. I'm really glad I've done this because I can do new tricks first try and it is worth the effort.

I find it funny because i can switch FS 180, BS & FS Shove its and swich heels but as soon as i try a straight switch Ollie i make automaticly an FS 180 or 90 but i never roll away straight.

Pro tip if you have a treadmill at home use that to get your body comfortable with cruising and and the little nuisances that can cause your board to turn unintended. You can even do this when it’s raining!

Apple watch boy here is saying a load of crap. I haven't skated in months and my right shoe is destroyed so I have to skate switch unless I want to destroy my right foot. All I did different is set my feet up the exact way I would if I were skating normal. You must put full commitment into a trick or else it wont flip all the way. That's all there is to it. If you try a trick where the board rotates, if it over rotates, move your back foot forward, and if it under rotates move your back foot backwards. If it flips too fast move your front closer to the nose a little bit, if it under flips, move your front foot farther from the nose. Also if you push the board in a different direction when you try to flip the board, lean more in that direction next time. I pop my kickflips centering my body weight about the back bolts, it took me a while to get used to switch, but now its easy. Took me less than a week to get all my flat ground tricks switch. That's all you really need to know to get good. Like I said, without full commitment you wont land on the board. Also you dont have to relearn in order. One of the first switch tricks I learned was the varial heelflip. It took less than 2 hours to land my first one.

Fyi, writing left handed will not teach u to be better at switch. Rolling your reg kickflip ankle and being forced to skate switch that's a different story lol

I completely agree about skating about switch and the learning nollie before learning switch tricks. Never tried the writing with my other hand but I have heard it helps with doing things with your least dominant side but it wasn't related to skating though.

This helped me alot thank you, I always thought I just cannot do switch but when you explained how it's like learning it again it helped

I started skating 4 years ago. After 1,5 years I started skating Switch. I skate mostly transition and I skate about 40% of the time regular and 60% Switch... I can do all the tricks Switch and Regular... Like 37 tricks Regular, 38 tricks Switch.... It's really fun to do lines in bowl/miniramp with Regular and Switch tricks combined and then mirror that same line... One of my favorite tricks is the SW BS 5-0

Aaron i think u should make a book called skatehacks since you have so many tips and publish it as an ibook

doing some balancing, strength training and cardio in a gym will help you skate way better way faster, especially learning switch.

Okey, craziest opinion ever on riding switch, but isn't switch just kind of 'the same' when you turn your head facing backwards (as in the opposite way to where you are moving to). At that point my body tends to relax and it feels a lot more like riding regular. It definitely has to be a balance thing that is also largely mentality.

i can ride goofy but cant pop the board with my left foot, but i can pop with my right foot but i cant ride regular. so i either learn have to learn to ride opposite (regulr) or ride normal but learn to pop with my left foot /:

I always have to focus hard before I do a switch trick but I usually learn them instantly I learned switch flips first try but they were push down ones it took months to flick switch flips.

For me Switch Flips and Nollie Flips are easier than Kickflips and Fakie Flips.Also FS tricks are easier Switch and Nollie (Yes I know it's Nollie BS not Nollie FS) than Regs and Fakie.I do agree with Garret on his logic for using the nose as the tail for Switch but another reason why which is more important to me is the alignment with the trucks to your feet.When you skate regs you put a different amount of weight on your trucks with your feet.So overtime your front truck adjust to front foot and your back truck adjust to your back foot.So when you skate Switch you want your feet to be aligned with the same trucks so it feels more natural.If I close my eyes and just step on my board if it was backwards whether I stepped on Switch or regs I can tell within the 1st couple seconds because it won't feel right due to the improper alignment.

some switch tricks are even easier than regular, like nollie laserflip ( i think fakie lasers are impossibles) also with ss frontside 360, ss heel, ss varialflip, nollie flip, nollie bigspin/flip. i learned switch tricks when i just started skating, and all people can't tell if i'm regular or goofy. its all a mental thing
