www.longplays.org Played by: DiggerandIndy I played on Casual to minimize embarrassing myself, which considering I lost only two lives, that's not bad!
Me too! I'm also glad they didn't make it another 8 bit MM2 style game again, and instead gave us a 2.5D style game with new features, and brought back the slide and megabuster. I need to revisit the Mega Man games. It's been a minute.
Say whatever you want about the MM2-styled games, but 10 was a far better game than 11, it had much more content and levels. You could play as Proto Man and Bass! And it had the best Wily stages.
I remember those little guys that explode after you shoot them are supposed to play the part of minions in hero shows. Kind of like what they do in power rangers and stuff, so maybe they blow apart in a non-lethal manner normally and put themselves back together for the next show, but now are kamikaze bombers after wily got to them.
It's not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination. For a Mega Man game that is done without Inafune's involvement, it was done decently... but... I honestly wouldn't say it blows my mind to any capacity. Let it be known... this isn't to dissuade anybody from playing Mega Man 11, and if you love it... I won't take that away from you. This is just my own opinion from my own experiences with the game, and therefore my own critical expression of things that it doesn't stick the landing on. The fact that most of the Robot Masters in 11 are more or less very similar if not exact in element to the ones from the first game (Fuseman = Elecman, Tundraman = Iceman, Impactman = Gutsman, Torchman = Fireman, Blastman = Bombman, Blockman = Cutman), making it a bit obvious Capcom were trying to play it safe and not really push the envelope in terms of originality or creativity. The Double-Gear system, while a neat mechanic in many ways, sometimes becomes too much of a necessity to be able to pass certain areas. Like Torchman's area where you need to avoid an incoming column of fire that's instant death several times... and on many, many, many, MANY occasions I would get killed, even WITH the Speed Gear on. So I cannot imagine how ANYONE could do those parts without the feature. More of a nitpick here than anything, but I would say that Mega Man's own voice actor (the English one) doesn't fit very well to me. ^^; Yes, he has the same 'Man' moniker as the other Robot Masters and you would expect him to sound older as a result... but in the other games where they DID have voice acting, they always had him with a pre-adolescent personality, which is more appropriate with his overall looks. I don't know... older sounding doesn't do it for me, and I switch over to the Japanese VA instead. As far as other character VA goes, though... I think they pretty alright. Lastly, the music... I cannot really distinguish it as Mega Man music. I don't want to say it's because it sounds better with 8-bit, since there are plenty of soundtracks from the other titles in the 16 and 32-bit era that I do happen to love (Mega Man 7 having a lot of my favorites). But for 11... they sound a bit too generic and droning, or similar in tone to another, that it sadly becomes one of the weakest aspects of this entry. Mega Man games always had a strong staple of rocking memorable tunes you would hear along with the gameplay... it's like the complementary frosting to a delicious cake. And for this game to falter even on the music side is a huge shame for me. I cannot tell you what Robot Master track or Dr. Wily track I liked more out of the whole game if I tried. It all simply sounded too similar to me... While I don't consider it high on the list for me, I don't hate it either... and I would love if Capcom would continue more with this series, hopefully with more fire to put into the 12th one that would really make it a worthwhile entry to play over and over, like how they did with 9.
This is a really good take, honestly. I think Mega Man 11 is a very good, but yeah it definitely played it too safe. They should've innovated more for this game. I'm thinking Capcom is probably thinking of doing a major shift for the franchise, like new gameplay idea concepts, maybe even a 3D game. I hope the franchise has a big strong revival with much innovation.
Curious that after Light's "Mega Man wields tremendous power... but he has the intelligence to use it wisely", Dr. Willy started looking being curious. Of course you don't plan of creating Zero are you Dr. Willy?
