I always thought this demo version was better than the track I helped produce. We recorded Mine Eyes for a 1990 compilation in a friend's garage, interesting to note that the vocals were done while the ladies were standing next to a washing machine and dryer, not running of course (no sound booth or prep done to the garage). That version was later remixed with more instrumentation and ended up on Serpentine Gallery.
Will the angels sing tonight Or will they perish in the shadows of this newborn light? Will we crumble to dust? Will be blow away Like the ravens did yesterday? Can we mend this broken reed? Seal the doom on this house of cards I only want to hear the angels laugh Are they sleeping on the edge of the sky? Will the candles burn all night Or will darkness engulf us and swallow our sight? Can we go the same ground if a nightingale sings? Gather 'round the fountains as the church bells ring I only want to hear the angles laugh Are they sleeping on the edge of the sky? I only want to listen to the angels sing Are they crying on the glimpse of mine eyes?
I prefer the album version, but this is utterly fascinating; it's interesting to see how the song evolved. You can hear some of the background instrumentals better in the demo version.
Thank you for the upload! Always interesting to see (actually HEAR) the changes of a song between the demo and the finished release version. I miss SS and SERPENTINE GALLERY is still in my "Top 5" of all time.
@TheLadyPoe I do! Unfortunately, it looks like RU-vid flagged these new videos as copyright infringement, so I don't think these videos will last long on here. I think I'm just going to have to upload these songs to rapidshare and post the link. I think every Switchblade fan should be able to hear all of these!
deep bluehue . . . I heard this originally on their self released cassette i was given long ago . . . thank you for posting , I actually prefer this stripped down version to the studio version they later released . . . ~ dougie in austin
I have the cassette of FABLE & this version is not from it so that makes this even more rare. The track off FABLE is closer to the version from SERPENTINE GALLERY. I want to make all four songs from the tape so people to enjoy as it is so rare. Tracks are Gutter glitter (not too different then on the Gallery cd,Bad Trash is a demo,Chain is same on Scrapbook.Mine Eyes is a mix of this version and Gallery, Rain makes it worth owning *extended synth solo even and Bloody knuckles is a demo version
A friend of mine gave me a mixed tape circa 91 with a version of this song that is by far the best version I've yet to hear. I can't find it anywhere else. It's not on any of their CD's.
I am glad they changed it from this version. The background vocals are harder to hear in the demo and isn't as haunting a feeling as the album version. Sometimes I listen to a demo and wish they stuck to it, but not this one, the album version sounds better in my opinion.
I prefer this one / Just needs better sound production in studio ... Thought the official release sounded too typically GOTH in my opinon ... i like the indie sound of this ...
