For any blinds or curtains that are automated, my main reason for this is to gradually let light in to simulate sunrise in the morning for a more natural wakeup. So, I wouldn't want it to make noise OR to open quickly. Ideal world is to have something that is very gradual and very quiet. Just saying, as you were wondering about use case! Out of interest, how many minutes did it actually take to open the curtains fully in your example?

In QuietDrift mode the speed is 27cm/minute so it takes a good couple of minutes to open.

Not really a switchbot tip but more for those type of curtains in general. If you spray the pole with WD-40 silicone spray, it makes a huge difference to the ease of opening and closing the curtains.

Thanks - I tried that once in my room and was told to never do it again. It did stink for several days to be fair :)

I’ve used furniture polish on curtain track to make manual open/close easier - not sure if it would affect the rollers on the switchbot though! Definitely smells nicer than WD40

Thanks. Great tutorial! How do you add the entity at the dashboard in the end?

It's a Tile card, vertical orientation, with an added feature of "Cover open/close"

Interesting. I’d assumed that curtain openers only worked with track and rope, but clearly technology has moved on and poles can now be ‘smart home’d’. It’s not an outrageously expensive product, but I can see it adds up, £100 per machine with the solar panel, £200 for a pair of curtains, then plus the hub. The mk2 is £13 less if you don’t need the newer features. I’m gonna keep focussing on power management in Home Assistant for now, but good to see how these devices operate

At the moment there's an offer (see video's pinned comment) for 15% off on Amazon in addition to their on offer price. Works out at £168 for two bots and two solar panels. You don't need the hub if you want to connect directly to Home Assistant via Bluetooth (although you do currently need to bodge HA with a mod - Bearded Tinker has a video on that ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zTBWsLWoTKc.htmlsi=yHBNdcWKfAaB1C1k)

It's a lot cheaper than the £750 piece I was quoted to add this to a ceiling curtain track we had put in a while ago. Still not sure about it mind...

hello, at the minute 9.08 you show how handle the tolerance "0,x" that I want to use to manage the gap that normally switchbot has in the open/close position - usually I 2% gap remain to be closed and general status stay as open. The problem that I cannot find in the configurator these yaml to edit it. can you help me?
@SpeakToTheGeekTech

Are you talking about the cover entity I created at 10:44 ? You have to add that code in manually, you won't find it in your configuration unless you have actually added it yourself. You can copy and paste my example from my web site if you want to, link is in the video description.

Thanks, but I’m new in home assistant and I don’t know where to to paste it. I have the yaml editor installed

@@SpeakToTheGeekTech I added manually the 4 boxes codes for the 4 sensors described in your guide, but I not solved the issue. What I'm looking for, is to decrease the status level from 0,1 to 0,5, this why my curtains after few days are not closing 100%, but stay at 99% showing as opened .... In homebridge, the Switchbot plugin allowed the user to decrease the range of control. I solved increasing from 0,1 to 0,5

You get very different matter options than I do in the app it only seems to show matter connectivity to Apple devices which without an Apple hub isn’t that helpful
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech Год назад
It might be because I'm using the SwitchBot Hub 2 for Matter, not Apple. My setup goes Curtain > Hub 2 > Home Assistant > Apple Home, rather than Curtain > Hub 2 > Apple Home. If you're trying to use Apple for your Matter control then you will of course need an Apple-based home hub (Apple TV / iPad / HomePod, etc) for proper functionality, but that's just one potential control method for Matter.

I was just watching a video on the new features coming in home assistant 2023.10, and there’s a new integration for switchbot you might find useful

Because u wanted to be at clown while the curtains opened in the quite mode, we were not able to hear if they really make any noise.. Good job!

Honk honk flappy feet big red nose. The only noise you hear is the squeak and clunk of the hoops on the curtain pole, doesn't really get picked up on the microphone so I chose to show the product differently... feel free to carry on scrolling to another reviewer's channel though who has decided to provide you with 2-3 minutes of awkward silence.

Let's put music over the part of the video comparing how quiet the quiet mode is.. really?

Yup. If it annoys even one person then I consider my job done :)

@@SpeakToTheGeekTech That is not particularly funny though as that part of the video is literally the entire point of your review, and it's useless. Really?
@SpeakToTheGeekTech
@SpeakToTheGeekTech 7 дней назад
Well, the microphone didn't pick up any noise from the motors anyway, and the only sound you can hear in real life is the slightly scratching / clanging of the curtain rings on the pole. The video was more to demonstrate how slowly it operated. The whole point of the video was to show how you can control QuietDrift mode in Home Assistant, I wasn't trying to demonstrate how quiet it actually is at all.

@@SpeakToTheGeekTech I get that but it is literally "Quiet" drift, so the key feature is how quiet it is. That's what I want to check before buying. Just a suggestion for the next time I guess, not trying to be difficult here
