4:22 what you're doing is a flying switch. When you kick cars you're doing it where the engine is at the back.

And under modern rules a flying switch is illegal! But that’s the fun of video games

If the tags over the cars go dim, then it means they’re correctly spotted. Next time you deliver cars, watch them with the Tab overlay turned on as you push them into the siding. You’ll see the tags go dull one by one as they enter the correct space

thanks for showing the front kick. I had not thought about using the individual car windows for breaks. I did one rear kick (Whitticker yard) and was super excited. I then when on with other switching. When I came back from an industry the car I kicked had stopped clear of the switch...and then rolled back across the switch blocking me. LOL! I had to grab the second engine to come move the car.

I think that I may have a misunderstanding of something. I was under the impression that when a car has air in it, the brakes are released as the air pushes off the brakes. When the brakes are blead, there is no air meaning that the brakes are applied. If you were to close the air valves of a car before disconnecting the train from it, then the car would always have air meaning the brakes are off so you would have to use the handbrake to keep the car from rolling after disconnecting. However I hear you mention that youre going to "bleed the brakes so [you] dont have air keeping the brakes *on.*" 4:05 If you bleed the brakes that also means you would not have to apply the handbrake as the brakes are already applied. Have I misunderstood how the air brakes work. Im not trying to correct you, just trying to learn :) Thanks for the amazing content!!!!!!
@KerboOnYT
@KerboOnYT 7 месяцев назад
Yes, you have misunderstood. Train brakes work differently than other vehicle air brakes like big trucks or busses. They're complicated, but you can find videos here on RU-vid that explain it or look it up on Google.

@@KerboOnYT well after looking into it a bit, I feel like I may owe some people an apology. I was explaining that like the early brakes were and not anything more modern 😂 you live and learn but I'm willing to admit..... I boobooed but I learned. Thank you sir!

The short version is that there are kinda like 2 different air brake systems in play. The brake pipe, and the car's air reservoir (brake cylinder). The brake pipe is the air coming from the motor, the brake reservoir fills from the pipe, and retains the air pressure to actuate the brakes on the car. When the brake pipe takes a reduction, this allows the air from the reservoir to actuate the brakes. This is why closing the angle cock coming from a car and then cutting the next car loose will apply the brakes, because there is a total loss of brake pipe pressure (known as putting the brakes in emergency). When the brakes go in emergency, there is a little air left in the brake cylinder. Bleeding off the air in the brake cylinder releases the brakes on the car, and if no air is on the brake pipe, then there are no air brakes available on the car. Additionally, closing the anglecocks on both ends of the car you are cutting off is known as "bottling air." Doing so would also keep the brake pipe and cylinder equal, therefore not actuating the brakes. We used to bleed off the air on cars in the yard where I worked when we were sorting cars. As long as there were 2 cars to kick into, you could send the car down the track to hit the rest of the cars down in that track saving time of having to shove the entire consist back in there to properly couple the cars together. There are limitations laid out in the rulebooks on what you can and cannot kick.
@TheDeathsfear13

That wasn't a kick, that was a flying switch. It's a little bit more difficult

Random tip, when you're choosing milestones don't bother with signals in a single player game. Nothing will be going anywhere until you tell it to and then it will only go where you set up and will stop if it's going to hit anything. Signals look pretty but they mess with your AI drivers.
@KerboOnYT
@KerboOnYT 7 месяцев назад
I've played around with the dispatching panel outside of this series and plan to implement signals at some point. If I don't want to do CTC I can set it to ABS mode and just let the AI run like it does now. Thanks for watching!

in your last video you said how do you Juge your speed the white posts on the side of the track are mile posts and between them mile a mile is5280 feet if it takes you a minute to go 1 mile you are going 60 miles per hour and 1 minute 30 seconds is 30 mph

I mean I don't exactly operate my RRO optimally either, I mean I switch cars and load during the night +the visually obstructive weather I put on purpose, this makes it worse when you get the train moving and realise an entire section of cars isn't coupled like your visual range is horrible But I do it cause it gives me a fun challenge

I wonder if it’s about time to get another locomotive, considering how long the line is getting and how heavy the loads are. One note about the buy menu: for some reason they’ve adopted the DRGW style of loco class naming, with the letter being the wheel arrangement and the numbers being the power of the loco in thousand pounds of tractive effort
@KerboOnYT

@@andrewreynolds4949the starter mougals can pull a lot more than they appear to be able to I pulled a full 1500 tones of freight from Whittier down to sylva with no issues on a single mougal there are hills but at that weight you can just coast over them the hardest thing is making sure you do not go over 40 mph you will bin the train on any engine lol
@GilbMLRS
@GilbMLRS 7 месяцев назад
@@andrewreynolds4949 I guess when I have enough money, another cute Mogul will be my choice for local shunting duty along the way and one of the bigger ones to service Sylva as for a passenger train with two cars and the odd freight remnant, the Mogul does fine but any serious loaded wagon makes the trip to Sylva tedious and me anxious.
@andrewreynolds4949
@andrewreynolds4949 7 месяцев назад
@@OGBlackjack4701 It's listed as the "Class G-16" on the steam page, so it appears it's rated for ~1600 tons (flat ground) I think. It looks like they've adopted a slightly modified version of the DRGW classification system, where the number indicates maximum tractive power rating
