Hi guys, firstly thanks for all the comments and suggestions! I'm fully aware of HID mode and club kit with the Pioneer set up! As a HID user myself it's how I would personally set up but majority of younger DJ's needing this advice won't have flagship set ups at home and as such will need this video to help translate what they have at home to the club, hense the DVS. Don't worry though a HID video is in the pipeline so we will tackle setting up in a club with that method too!
When I did this in the past I would have my first track (Longer intro track) on a CD (Pre-usb times) and swap over when the DJ before me was done. So he wouldn't be bothered by me messing about while he was playing. Then, when I was playing the last track I'd allready switch over one deck again to minimize hassle. Nowadays I wouldn't bother anymore and just bring some USB's instead and play on the gear available.
i was going to suggest the same thing. it's much better etiquette to do it the way you described and it's less stressful because you aren't worried about messing up someone else's set.
Question! Why would a DJ want to use either of these methods instead of HID mode? I've done this same switchover from a USB DJ to my laptop and just connected the mixer + CDJ's into a USB hub that goes into my Laptop. This way there is no need for control signal CD's, a soundcard, DVS license or re-plugging RCA's.
You are assuming the venue has compatible devices and you do need licences to use HID either with Serato's club kit or Rekordbox Performance mode. This video is a more broad look at the subject and will cover a variety of mixers and CDJ's. HID is brilliant and I use it myself but you can't assume every club you ever enter will have a compatible mixer and CDJ's, hense this guide.
@@djholland4235 Thank you for the reply! I definitely understand why this video is important for DJ's connecting to non-HID compatible devices. I was just curious if there were any advantages/specific reasons for using these methods with the NXS line, given that you didn't suggest HID mode as a switchover option. I really appreciate this video though, I know not all venues will have an updated setup so its important to know alternate connection methods.
But with Rekordbox Performance mode I've always needed to connect 2 USB B Cable going back on the CDJ or 3 USB B cable to 2 going back on the CDJ & 1 on the DJM Mixer but you demonstrated here with only 1 cable directly connected with DJM mixer & it started controlling the CDJ's too? Can you please tell how to do the same with Rekordbox?
What settings did you select to load the same time code on the other cdj at 8:10? I'm new to CDJs and have only played in HID mode with the times ive had with CDJs.
Dont be that guy... using DVS on a nexus system... just use HID. Trust me, we will all love you! Learn how to create aggregate on your mac laptop and enjoy ease of setup.
It's much the same, just make sure you are mindful of the cables that are supplying the other DJ's music. On Nexus 2 and Denon X1800 mixers you benefit from having 2 USB inputs for the internal soundcard, otherwise you will need to alternate with the sources, say one DJ on an external sound card and one on the internal. Or both with external sound cards using 2 channels each.
@@memberofc1205 Nope! In fact, a CDJ setup is most commonly used for USB Drives and/or SD cards pre-configured through Rekordbox. It's what you see at most EDM festivals for example, it allows for easy DJ switching because all you need to bring is a flash drive, instead of a laptop + cables.

You will need one or the other. Club kit for Serato allows the use of internal sound cards in certain mixers (make sure you check which mixer the venue has before purchase) and Rane sound cards unlock the software for performance.
Why would you use all that on Nexus kit??? 3 usb's, one for mixer 2 for decks, and you are good to go. It's actually way easier to switch from usb to HID (a button on a CDJ and a switch on the mixer input) and saves lot of time and space on a DJ booth. Also every other DJ playing before will laugh at you for doing all that instead of a simple, logic, updated way!! But yeah don't forget to bring your tape recorder and vinyl crate ahahaah
