Switching From Adobe To Affinity - What About Image Management?

So many creatives are switching from Adobe To Affinity Photo 2. And to encourage you to try Affinity they're offering a 6 Month Free Trial! Wow!
There's one thing I have found lacking in Affinity Photo 2. There's no image catalogue system for Affinity. Personally I use Lightroom constantly for my projects. So without an asset management system I think I'm going to be stuck with Lightroom for managing images. What are you using for image management?

Been totally Affinity since 2020 but, as you say in the video, the lack of any DAM is a bit of a downer however, have found Adobe Bridge which, unbelievably, is free and very efficient. I realise that we are all trying to give Adobe ‘a bloody nose’ but Adobe Bridge is very good and versatile.
@AZ-Drone
@AZ-Drone Месяц назад
Glad Bridge works for you. And yes, we're all giving Adobe the cold shoulder. Hopefully they will mend their way and show a little appreciation to all of us who supported them over the years.

At least for my purposes, Affinity Photo is superior to Photoshop. Then add in no subscription and it's a no brainer.

Thanks for your comment. I've been checking Affinity over the last week. The learning curve isn't too bad for people to try out.

I switched away from Adobe about a year after CC subs came along. Now using the full Affinity suite of apps on MacOS and iPadOS with Capture One, it all works very well. However I do keep one older MacBook Air running with Affinity v1 and Aperture 3.6.1 for a specific image library as I still haven’t found any other software that has Aperture’s Light Table feature as well as its strength in metadata handling alongside the batch editing features. On newer Macs I also use a low cost DAM called NeoFinder, which is very fast for searching through my 250K+ library.

Haven't heard of NeoFinder. I'll have to look it up.

I have CaptureOne too, but sadly they try to screw their customers too with expensive subscriptions..I have a perpetual license, but the license makes only sense, if you upgrade every three years or less.
@kzil
@kzil Месяц назад
@@Pipsologie Well, I guess it's fair to have to pay for major upgrades. I don't know of any company that will sell you a lifetime license including all future versions. And, they don't steal your work.
@Pipsologie
@Pipsologie Месяц назад
@@kzil I agree that its fair to pay for upgrades, but the question is how much and how often. The subscription of Captureone is much more expensive than Adobe's subscription (9,99$ vs 24$) and with Adobe you receive photoshop too. And about the perpetual license. It is normal to get minor upgrades for a year, for example support for new cameras when you buy a perpetual license - not with Captureone. You buy a new camera, add 299$ for a new perpetual licence for Captureone. I would love to support Captureone, as I really dislike Adobe, but they should be friendlier with their customers, especially hobby photographer. They should take an example from Affinitny.

@drchtct Месяц назад
@@kzil Issue is new camera/lens support. If I shell out hundreds for a Capture One licence and decide to buy new gear in three months, my licence is dead and needs renewing. I don't care about new features, just keep the same old software compatible with newer gear. There is no technical reason it wouldn't work, it's just to force upgrading. And for any other service you get some kind of after sales support. If I buy a phone, I get software support for 4-6 years depending on the company. Imagine you buy a phone and you can't install a new app that is launched or even just updated 3 months later, that's insanity.

Rich, your thought on Affinity developing their own DAM? They would have to know that would be a major hinderance for LR users from making the transition.
@SerenyMor
@SerenyMor Месяц назад
Back when it was just known as Photoplus Serif actually did sell a file management programme? I agree that the Affinity stable really needs their own DAM, so many disgruntled Adobe users often quote the absence of an alternative to Adobe Bridge as the last issue in dumping them and using Affinity. So, Canva, you say you're going to develop Affinity, start with that!
@AZ-Drone
@AZ-Drone Месяц назад
I don't think they'll be doing a DAM. I think they would have done it some time ago.

I made the cartoon type images with an AI image builder. I've been testing out several now. The cartoon in this one came from FireFly (Adobe's AI). I have more to test as well.
