I’m changing grade levels!!
While I’m excited about a change, I also crave stability in this career. I’ve been in 2 schools, 3 classrooms, and now 3 grade levels all in my first 4 years! I’m nervous about our state’s retention law and learning the ins and outs of that process.
What grade are you teaching next year? Give me any tips for 3rd grade that you can!

Going into my 4th year of teaching and I’ll be teaching 3rd grade social studies! The first 3 years I did 1st grade. Kind of nervous but also excited.

I am going into my 9th year teaching, which I can hardly believe! I have been at the same school, but 3 grade levels: 2,3,4. Next year I will be adding a new experience: FIRST GRADE. I honestly never thought I'd teach that young, but for now I am starting to think I am meant for lower primary. You are going to really love 3rd grade. Yes, there is the pressure of the state retention and testing, but those kids.... they are so independent and yet still so sweet. It was nice to hear your story, and I'm excited to follow along! 😎

I NEVER thought I’d go younger than third and I loveddddd second so much!!! You’re gonna love first! I teach first for summer school. I think phonics instruction is the most fun thing to teacher ever and watching them blossom and learn how to read is awesome!

I taught third this year and it wasn't bad at all! I wish we had that retention rule in NC we don't have it and kids keep getting pushed along who can't read!

I understand that but from my experience the retentions don’t fix the problem either😪😅

I’m starting my first year teaching and I’m teaching 2nd grade at the school I interned at (1st grade) I am so excited to have some of my kiddos in my class this year 🥳🥳

Congratulations 🎉 it’s exciting that you have the possibility to loop with your class, I teach first and could have taught second next year but I knew I wouldn’t get any of my kiddos so I stuck with first grade!!

I don’t think I’m going to get any or not most 😢 but I know most of the 2nd grade class going up and theyre great kids too! So it’ll be ok and it’s worth it for other reasons too!
