Everyone that I have heard complaining about the Gorilla Pod falling over is using that large version with the really long legs. The 5k version which is a little shorter is much more sturdy.

I'm glad you recognize the fact that both the Gorillapod and SwitchPod have their uses. Other YTubers outright claim that the SP will kill the GP. Which is totally absurd. Personally, I like the design and workflow of the SwitchPod. So, I will probably pick one up. Having both pods will equip me with many choices and solutions.

Woah! A balanced review about the switchpod! I'm totally a fan of Levi and Peter, but the "GORILLAPOD KILLER!!!" from them was so overboard with the actual performance. They do different things! Like you said gorillapod pod is distinctly more "jack of all trades" where switchpod does a couple things really well and sucks at other things.

Seems like a nice product, the grippiness was one of my concerns also. Putting a material on there to help grip would also kill the noise too when closing it at least. Also curious how that would feel in extreme temperatures like very hot or especially very cold weather, although once again, that could be solved by a material that would also help grip. Maybe an easily replaceable slip on cover for those that do want it and then if they don't they can take them off?

Maybe yeah. We are looking at options for the future of it. The legs are currently not covered with a grippy material because magnets keep the legs in the collapsed position. Also, that adds to our cost which adds to the overall price we would have to charge. And yes, it could get warm or cold but in an extreme temperature you'd probably be wearing gloves already. Love the feedback!

The metal to metal "click" sound it makes when the legs are pressed together--that should be eliminated. That sound picks up very well on any microphone.

love both the tripods but I've found through my travels that the Gorillapod suits me better. I was able to go on hiking trips and wrap the tripod to a tree and take a picture of our group at eye level or higher. It was nice to wrap it around our side mirror of our RV also when there were no trees or poles around. I do question the longevity of it though, as I can see my other non gorilla started to get weak over time due to all the stress of folding and unfolding.

Gorrilapod wears out overtime. That's a big no-no if I have to end up replacing it quickly depending on how hard I use it. I'd rather just spend my money on something like the Switchpod!

4:35 you should've done 2 scenarios; one w/ ballhead on switch pod and quick release on dslr w/c was on video, and the other one without accessories (bare dslr & switch pod attachment). Great vid nonetheless, I'm really considering the switch pod now..

switchpod needs a bit more work to really. the fact that you cant august how tall or short it is make position it a concern . once you open it you only can stand it up so if im sitting down at a desk i cant move to my eye level .plus the lack of position doesnt help.

i think in 30 days we're going to see a ton of people bitching they don't have what they need and attaching an aftermarket ballhead to make it more usable is going to result in a ton of busted cameras. i use the peak clips to quick release to my gimbal tripod, and gorilla pod, but the gorilla pod 5k's ballhead sometimes tends to loosen up on it's own, which has resulted in two camera drops. constantly paranoid tightening it when i'm idle. irritating.

We're encouraging you to take the ball head or quick release system you already own and throw it on top. We haven't quite perfected our ball head idea yet, so for now, you can use the many options out there. Thanks for the feedback!

@@CalebWojcik that's my concern, when mounting a non factory ballhead you've not already tested. the gorilla pod one comes loose, there's manfrotto and all sorts of options but none of which have been tested reliably with your system. obv, mounting a full frame camera we don't want to find out the hard way that the neewer one works better than a manfrotto, or vice versa etc. i find the gorilla pod annoying, but... i'd like to try this out myself if you're still sending out other options. i hate to buy it and get a busted camera or find out the hard way ya know? and no offense, not relying on peter mckinnon to tell me i should buy it haha he's obviously getting stuff sent to him to fund kick starters with one video.

For that price, it should come with a ball head. I don't already own a gorilla pod or ball head so the extra expense makes this too more than I'm willing to spend. The gorilla pod might not be perfect but has the wrap around feature that separates it from the rest. There already are many alternatives to the switch pod on the market at half the price or less.

I have the switchpod and their ball head... $135.00 is a pretty small investment to help stabilize my $1000.00 camera!! I'd feel better with that vs the gorilla pod!!

@@mondobytes I'm not talking about other videos. I'm perfectly capable of watching various videos on RU-vid. I'm saying that you omited to test the product openly and honestly. It's not a head to head if you don't actually show head to head comparisons. You may indeed be correct, but to fail to show the comparison is either lazy, or hiding something. You mention that the guy who developed this new tripod is a personal friend, as he seems to be with many people in the industry... And you haven't been paid... I'm sure you haven't.

For me it is, but that's because it matches my C200 effortlessly, the high bitrate gives me a cleaner image also love having a flip out display and all my lenses work flawlessly. There's also other stuff too but yeah I sold my A7III ha!
