Come on DAVE. When you are working with your people, don't leave it to management to tell. Call your "friend" and say here is the situation. There is no doubt Marty could have created a single version solo. Dave in the Blame chair again.
@@keithbeef my guess is that Dave & Marty were in that zone many bands get into where the members don't actually speak to each other, and a lot of communication is done through management. So the idea of Dave telling management to tell Marty... was probably a common thing during this time. I think that explains why Dave would be so matter-of-fact about the situation.
@@keithbeef Marty's website used to have a section with his thoughts on every song he worked on and he specifically pointed out he didn't like the direction Megadeth was going at that point in time. If memory serves correctly he didn't like how by Risk the band's sound was confused like it didn't know if it wanted to be metal or radio music. He definitely had a paragraph about the Breadline solo too
I don't believe Mustaine was polite towards Marty Friedman about this. Knowing his temper he probably argued over it. I mean, his loss, Marty was supreme. I don't think Megadeth ever had anyone better at guitar, and Mustaine knew it all along.
He's no Marty Friedman, but in his own right, and for his time in megadeth, Glenn Drover was and is an amazing guitarist. He nailed marty's solos on the "that one night" concert.
Shit he’s had a million great guitar players mustaine himself is great player DONT get it twisted and he sings while playing them riffs so I don’t get it let Marty do his pop rock
Kiko is pretty much at Marty's level, all other Megadeth's guitarist are pretty great musicians by their own right. However, there's one and only one Marty Friedman.
Dude, Kiko is absolutely on Marty's level, if not slightly above him. Marty is legendary, but it's about timing. Marty helped Megadeth get bigger at a time where Megadeth was on the rise, and Megadeth helped Marty get out of the guitar virtuosos bubble where only musicians have heard of him. Megadeth was a successful band before Marty, which is why Marty joined. Marty elevated the quality of Megadeth and made classic albums at a time when thrash was king. But, he didn't write the songs, Dave did. Are the songs the same without Marty? No. Marty made them better. But, if this current lineup was the lineup back then, we would be talking about them. I love Nick, but Gar was Megadeth's best, and Dirk is very much in that vein, but better. Of course your favorite players will be from a time when you were really into a band, and when they had peak success. But, this current lineup is just as good, but happens to come at a time when Megadeth is on the tail end of their existence. Marty was also partly responsible for Megadeth heading in a more commercial direction. And had he stayed, they may never have gone back to thrash. Marty is a guitar God, but we shouldn't act as if he's better than every guitarists in existence. Lots of capable musicians passed through Megadeth, and this current line up is the best since the 90's.
I started follow your channel right before Swola01 and I still here... Love your content, you made me buy a guitar 10 years after I sold mine, hope to see Swola 1000 some day.
Wonder Wall intro was a solid 6/10. Thank you for the years of entertainment, I've been watching since the original engl Blackmore vs rectifier demo. Back when I was in the 10th grade.
That's what I'm saying, kinda looked like a Dime razorback, but who owns the rights to those guitars designs now after the lawsuit, Rita or Dean, or maybe Solar??? Plot thickens...
Man, hearing about what happened to Marty sucks. He was probably the perfect lead guitarist for Megadeth, as I think he gave them a unique sound with his solos. At least he's still doing great in Japan and whatnot and still releasing music!
Totally! When I first read that story I was like "COME ON DUDE!?!" He really thinks that was the way to handle that situation and then tell the story all these years later and think that he doesn't come out looking like kind of a bitch? I've loved Dave as a musician all these years but as a person he's just an asshole. Simple as that. Even in recent interviews he STILL comes off like a dick.
I think it was more of a "if you don't want him to play the solo, you need to be the one to tell him" kind of thing. It sounds like it wasn't Mustaine's idea to change/replace the solo and if it were him to be the one to tell Friedman, then it might seem like it was his idea. Either way, it boiled down to a lack of communication. Idk what happened after Mustaine saw Friedman's reaction, but he absolutely should have let the manager have it for not doing his job. He set the terms in that if he were to replace the solo then the manager needs to give the bad news and he didn't follow through on his end
Dave is many things, a coward is not one of them. There's countless stories of him being very blunt and straightforward with guys, Marty and Dave especially had their fights and Dave never was shy about telling it like it was.
If Dave knew about the solo change and knew Marty wasn't going to be happy about it, he should've said something to Marty prior to the listening session mentioned in the story, and ultimately Dave has creative control over all things Megadeth, it's no surprise he would change a solo he felt not up to par or that doesn't fit the song, I do agree he should've taken responsibility and not blame management for whatever reason, everyone knows he has sole creating control over everything that Megadeth does, it's just a shame that Marty's career had to end in such a shit way, over egos and big heads, but that's Dave and nothing's changed there.
"Pantera" will come to Hell and Heaven fest in Mexico City but without the Abbott brothers it's just a band of covers, or a tribute, It doesn't matter if Anselmo and Rex are there. Congratulations, Ola, for the 100 episodes!
Dave Mustain is certainly a legend in metal. With that said, he really needs to cut the sh*t about "management " calling the shots whenever a decision is made that paints him in a bad light. There is no "management ", it is him, and maybe a producer.
i pretty much like the 100th episode especially the intro and the very lively ola riff. Please don't ever stop being yourself. I,like the others who follow you, are here (still here) because there is something in you and your channel that makes us stay and enjoy and even learn. Whatever that mystery you do keep doing that. Let us go get that 1m subs!!!
I cant believe ive been apart of this series for a long time and im happy for you Ola!! I watched this every Saturday night/Sunday Morning, this was always the best part of my day. I love you Ola!!!! Keep continuing the the AMAZING work!!
Great episode Ola! Congrats on the SWOLA100 Humble Request: Please return the sustainiac models, specially the 7-string one. I was about to order it, then I found out that you discontinued the whole series 😞
@@KelticKabukiGirl Z style is amazing too! But I really have an admiration for this shape and color Could you please share the contact with me? Or his instagram page?
You are one of the main reasons I am still interested in playing guitar, creating music and not letting down. Also you might be one of the few people on earth that can get me starstruck, if we would ever meet. Congratulations for keeping up the spirit for so long!... 👍👍
Thank you so much for giving my daughter and I a Sunday tradition to look forward to! We watch and get amped up and then jam like crazy! Thank you sir again
Music is such a huge part of my life. I listen to it when I go to bed, when I wake up and in between. You and your show validate that there is a legion of us that still love great metal music. Thank you so much for carrying the flag for us! Terrific show! 100! \m/
Got to tell you, with all honesty, your channel delivers the most enjoyable, most cohesive, most informative content of all the channels in this genre...and on top of all that, you are incredibly likeable and easy to root for. Congrats on 100. I'll be here for whatever comes next...
Ola, there has been a lot of coverage of what the legendary big bands are up to, but I find it difficult to believe, that absolutely nothing else interesting is happening in the world of metal music. Could you please include some other news in your segment than just stuff about Pantera, Megadeth and Gibson etc.? Perhaps give a spotlight to some up and coming bands or something?
Literally it’s Phil and Rex wanting more money so they decide to do a “for the brothers tour” as if it’s really respecting them in anyway when you can’t have Pantera without the Abbott brothers. It isn’t about hating it. It just isn’t right to do this
Same thing I’m thinking. Why didn’t they do it while Vinnie was still alive? Because he didn’t want it done. And it’s funny how the people directly involved who claim it’s not a money grab, stand to make a ton of money off of it. The Vinnie estate sold everything they could, down to his jeans. They didn’t wanna keep shit. I’ll be one of the ones not attending that Charlie Benante spoke about.
Those SWOLA 100 riffs... I'm sort of an Ola-Come-Lately and I've really enjoyed and appreciate watching your videos, discovering your whole thing this last couple of years. You give a good "We're hanging out, loving metal together" vibe. Thanks. Looking forward to watching and hearing more.

This reminds me so much of originally smiling & laughing with your videos. And since I play one of my Solar Guitars every day & love it, truly dude, you've added a lot of happiness, fun & laughs to my life, not to mention re-energizing my guitar journey. So, congratulations to you on 100 SWOLAs & to me on 3 years as part of the Ola member family 💚 ps - since it seems there's still time, when the Solar X is released, will you please consider making a Vinter model from the jump! Thanks, in any event, I'll pre-order any of them the day it's possible. pss - Bloodborne is my favorite too. I think I got to about 90% completion with TONS of rage quits.
Man, we're 100 sundays in already? Shit, I think I haven't missed a single one and loved the journey, the riff challenges (although I only did a few of them) and how it evolved over time; hope to see lots of SWOLAs in the future! They're my sunday morning TV and I absolutely enjoy it! Killer riff in the beginning too, love the faster style, really fckn badass. Also the X looks great, it's like a Jackson RR and a Kelly had a baby, really nice! So have a fantastic sunday and upcoming week you big, beautiful swede and continue doing your thing like you do! Happy SWOLA100! _so anyway, here's wonderwall_
I was lucky enough to see Pantera in a small club on the St Louis riverfront back in the 90s. They had a local band open for them called zkazen (sp?). Was a great show and was a pleasure being in a small club, it was very personal and fkn awesome!
Congratulations on 100 episodes! Keep the metal alive I love it! you ain't bullshitting on the brutal guitar skills man, you are bad ass and deserve all the success in the world . Keep it commin bro! Much love from DETROIT MI USA ❤️ PS. One day in the future when I can afford it I will own a solar! They look incredible! PEACE
Congrats Ola!! I’m happy to have been here for every episode. Every achievement that comes your way is well deserved man. Hoping 1M subs comes sooner than later. 🤘
Crazy to see how far this has come. I remember being a teen saving up my weekend and week night job money to buy a sick metal amp and looking on youtube to see if a Dual Rec or Powerball was a better choice. And young Ola was there to show me these amps all sound almost exactly the same through the same speaker and microphone! And how far we've come, guessing rigs, will it chug, faqs being replaced with swola and then making a come back and now 100 swolas. We've had Devin Townsend and John Petrucci on for coffee. Congrats on everything and thanks for being honest and keeping it real.
Hahahahaha the opening! 😂 Epic SundaywithOla episode Ola!!! :D Hahahah. I cracked up also when you said 20ms sustain in chat, for the tone in the childhood/youth video. 27:12 😅😂
So awesome you got to jam out with Leo and Rabea and the Frogleap band! I’ve been following all you guys since you all started and you have all inspired so many people! Including myself! Can’t wait till you bring out the X model Solar! I have one of the original Ibanez Xyphos guitars and it’s awesome, and have always wanted a Solar, so I might hold and and get the X when it’s available 🤘🤘
