Great job Devil Dog! I am getting ready to build a box for my Mamaluke sword and will use your techniques and plan! I hope it comes out half as well as yours!
I am about to embark on the same to build a display case for a a friend mine, his will be for a saber and scabbard. How did you secure the Lexan? I missed that. We have the same table saw btw. What would you different if you did it over again? As for the safety natzi’s my blade guard has never been on my saw! I keep my fingers away from the blade, I have been successful at doing doing this for over 50 years. If you are cutting something and it does not feel right STOP listen to your intuition. Most of the time it is smarter and more insightful than we are. Thanks for sharing your work.
I couldn't watch to the end as I am sure you will cut off one of your fingers when you don't use the guard on your table saw. I hate seeing blood on a saw!
So funny story I have run my thumb through the saw, but that was a different situation with a push stick. As far as the guard goes I feel like it makes it to where I can't see the work area well. Also I tend to cut a lot of very thin peices that would get caught between the arms. So to save time I just leave it off. If it feels safer for you to use it I totally advocate and support it. For me I feel it's an acceptable risk, and that I've taken enough steps to minimize that risk in every way I can. Your input is appreciated though. Take care!
