Hello SP, I am a new student of the Longsword, you are an inspiration for me to train hard and throw cuts every day!!! Your videos are my favorite to watch and I am looking forward to supporting and learning from you from now on. With much respect, Eddie
Dangit, Real martial artists in real life train with "dances" like this. in Escrima there's the anyo, which is a fanciful dancing with weapons, it is actually a training for coordination of your footwork, balance and handwork. The twirling part also strengthens your wrists. moves like these aren't entirely worthless. just not practical in real fights.
The cat eyes are a natural result of the mutagens used in the Trial of the Grasses, Geralt does have other mutations in addition to that as he went through the Trail so smoothly (relatively-speaking of course). But the only cosmetic side of those extra mutations was the loss of pigment in his skin and hair.
It's also worth mentioning that these kind of moves in fighting (all kinds of fighting, wether traditional martial arts, modern fighting or swordsmanship etc etc) are used for two things. During practice overly exaggerated/complicated moves can be extremely useful to get yourself used to a weapons weight/handling overall. Also using flashy moves before fights have been done forever as a scare tactic. Trying scare tactic vs a well trained master would not yield anything. But let's say you were intermediate/advanced swordfighter and came up vs 1-3 people who clearly had no idea how to use a sword except swing it, scare tactics would be extremely well to lower their confidence and therefor increase your chance of winning while being outnumbered or perhaps even avoiding a fight all together.
Oooh, never thought about that. Having an intimidation skill that's just fancy swordplay to give weaker opponents debuffs. I can see that in something turnbased pretty easily but I wonder how that could play out in real time.
You have no idea how happy this video made me :D ! I'm currently working on my Eskel costume and this will help me adding a bit more to it in terms of performance :D Thank you muchly :)
@KADArt Cosplay: Wonder where you are located. Imagine two people in similar gear training this. Ba-Wü for me nowadays but I guess you're way more up north?
Sorry , just found this comment xD Yes, it's a lovely picture, I've actually done so with a friend dressed as Lambert ;P Northern Germany to be precise Hamburg ^^
+Filip Stachura Mam pewien plan na przyszły rok. Będzie to coś innego niż u Alana, ale myślę, że też się spodoba. Być może jeszcze w tym roku wypuszczę teasery (:
I just keep losing the grip on the sword when swirling it behind my back. I mean I'm not dropping the sword, but I can feel it sliding down with each round I give it behind me back sides. And I just can't stop to marvel on how you spin the sword behind your back... it's so magnificent...
I love how those people are talking in the background like "oh, just another swordsmen in the courtyard" and don't even look over.. Apparently this is a normal thing to see in Poland? Lol Love it, and your videos!
I love the description, which more or less imply how useless this would be in a real fight. The fancy sword swinging which is bad for grip, and someone hitting your sword mid-swing would probably make you drop it. Spin cut which leaves you totally undefended. Still looks really cool though. I do hope no one is stupid enough to think it's a proper technique because they failed to read the description.
Man your videos are amazing, I wish you had more... I cant pinpoint one exact thing, I already like a part because its well shot and performed beautifully, then I think "He didnt say its just choreography, not fighting" AND you say it / write it. So I like it even more, and than there is a subtle joke that I dont expect in such a video and its even better, and then suddenly WILD MLG EDITING appears and its even more hilarious and.... Wow, just, so good. Thx man :D
So about 2 videos ago i subscribed to you, but after the lil john song and ish i had to unsubscribe just so i could sub again!!! a total badass with a sense of humor, i dig it!!
its great that you show a separate clip of the same action from a new angle. id suggest also having a vertical split screen view where you show both simultaneously, that would be helpful.
To achieve fluidity of movement, you need to slow down and work the speed up slowly - same as with musical instruments. The key is to maintain constant velocity of the blade throughout all motions. Do note however, that it looks good, but isn't perfect for fighting. In sword combat, I find it's better to have that clunkiness, sudden bursts of acceleration instead of constant speed.
looks great man, Metatron sent me here. I have a question. Are you opening up your fingers when you spin the sword? If so could you do it with a fully closed hand? In true combat form ( I relies this is not true combat) it is best to not open your hand when spinning the weapon, all be it is easier to open the fingers do to lack of wrist flexibility, (not saying your wrist are not flexible :) ) this helps keep the weapon in your hand upon the moment of impact, or if someone attacks the weapon wielding hand. Keep up the great work man, you have good skill. Check out my Armory my family and I are opening up in Oregon USA we are starting to focus more on HEMA gear. facebook.com/WolfclanArmory/ what we have in the pictures isn't even a 10th of what we have to offer.
Take in mind 1 spinning long sword(and spinning any long arm) was actually used for real but as defensive technique while stepping back. If u use to attack your guard will be open to thrusting, unless wearing a good armor able to protect you from indirect thrusting 2 against someone wearing full plate armor, swords are a bit useless
Hmmmm. Very cool looking sequences for sure. Having studied Iaido these types types of flourishes etc are quite the opposite from what I studied. But, having recently purchased and played the Witcher 3, I get it. Question is... where indeed is the Ciri Chasm video? Would be very interested in seeing that, unless it was done and I have not seen it yet? Might I suggest more instructional video content?
btw, doing this isn't just for show. There are a multitude of reasons why a swordsman doing this is important. Dexterity training, familiarisation with your weapon, concentration, picking up automatic movement during battle. I will admit it doesn't hurt that it looks cool too.
Wow, jestem pod wielkim wrażeniem ☆-☆ Ostatnio zaczęłam robić własny miecz Ciri z drewna i ćwiczyłam będąc w lesie, ale chyba nie dam rady nigdy zrobić takiego obrotu xDD
Hi, Thanks for breaking down the sequence. Personally I always thought that it's some kind of form to get loosened up before training. Something bogs my mind since I saw this particular sequence from the first game: I do think I did see it before in some film, or documentary(?). I cannot shake that feeling off after so many years. I wonder what the choreographer based his work on.
8 years later... did you ever find out? I always thought these movements are so basic when it comes to Wushu, like Chinese sword play, that you see them often in all sorts of movies. There's really nothing particularly special about this sequence. But who knows....
I really like your Channel. Pls do more Witcher stuff. I also fight with the Witcher moves sometimes and i train the Witcher movements. I can do the movement from the first Witcher in the First Witcher trailer while he is sitting at his camp fire doing it.
Impressive stuff! Keep up the awesome videos! Just curious though.. What kind of sword is that specifically? Longsword or hand and a half sword? Sorry maybe a stupid question but I am not too familiar with European swords as in just getting into them. Also what kind of jacket is that?
so, how effective is witcher style fencing in a real combat situation? im no expert, but I have always found myself saying after the animation: "how did I not just get stabed in the back?" or "why not just stab the other guy?" lol
It's not like I've got a video on that specific topic. (which I'm sure appears in the recommended bar >>>) Also, Skall or Lindy and combat? Ask scholagladiatoria or londonlongsword instead. :)
nice made tutorial.. little remark though for your improvement: your jump or "pirouette of death" how you call it is "wrong". Your turn is on the wrong leg. By wrong I mean different than the character does it and uncommon in martial arts because your version is much more unstable and with less force which is relevant in an actual fight. I don't wanna play the smartass but a new student came to me showing me your video to give me an idea what he wants to learn..and as a martial arts trainer I can't help noticing such things :P .. but as you can see you are an inspiration for people already ;)
I don't think I will be able to snake with my sword because the crossguard design juts outward In a way that grases my wrist when I try to twirl. I need to have another go but it isn't looking promising.
The video about jedi/lightsaber tricks covers it. You're right about it being hard haha. Even with daily practice it's taken me 3 weeks to figure out the entire figure 8 sequence.
