This is a build (skill summary at 46:30 ) to make Dragon Age; Inquisition great again. It is with Nightmare difficulty / Friendly Fire in mind, but can be used for anything. (Will make lower difficulties / non FF / no trials too easy though) This brings the speed and brutality of Dragon Age 2 combat to DA:I. I hope you have fun with this.

Adds = Additional damage dealers... mind blown... I just always assumed they were called that because they were added to a fight on top of the main boss.

Gotta say, I love this build. I've played through DAI twice before, but when in most of my playthroughs, I always got bored after WE&WH and finishing seemed like a slog to the end. With this build, I played to the end, plus all the DLC and it was a blast! And I couldn't believe how easily I plowed through the Quanari in Trespasser. Thanks for a really fun build!

Personally the most enjoyment i got was when i downloaded a mod that allowed me to take anything from any class and made my own "blood mage" using the reavers abilities. Its not like balance was a concern as most builds would shit on everything.

Combat was about the only thing that game did right. For me it was the CONSTANT reuse of assets. You literally walked through the same zone for 70% of the game. Still enjoyed it though. Inquisition is definitely better imo though

I'm planning on getting back into my Inquisition game and stumbled across this vid by chance. I'm not done watching it yet, and I know this was posted almost a year ago, but I want to say THANK YOU for starting at the beginning of progression. Builds created in a vacuum without considering how to get there drive me insane. So, thank you for taking the time to show the progression of the build.

It's kind of similar in concept to my artificer build (my most fun playthrough). With artificers, critical hits by you _and_ your party members give you back stamina and reduce your ability cooldowns. With the entire party geared towards critting as often as possible (+crit chance gear, masterworks that trigger additional attacks like chain lightning or hidden blades, and spamming abilities with aoe or multiple hits) you end up having basically unlimited access to all your abilities with no need to ever use basic attacks by about the mid-game (without trespasser DLC). As with the reaver build you don't always do big hits, but you do lots of them and it's loads of fun to watch the sheer amount of numbers you can generate in just a few seconds. I also prefer ranged in this game as it tend to give me a better view of the rest of the team, and you can be constantly putting down damage instead of having to pause every time you drop an enemy in order to run to the next one. That could mean being relatively static, but with artificer you can do that while still constantly changing up the distance with hook & tackle, elemental traps and leaping shot, so it's still interesting and highly mobile, with tools for every engagement distance.

Agree with everything you say especially with the fact that warriors are more difficult to handle the pride demon fight at the begining than other classes and that cassandra and varric bring something special to the table with their party buffs.

You ever try artificer dual wield? Non-stop abilities, and you can prepare combos with the fat elemental mines. Obviously no focus ability though lul.

Nah, bows give higher base damage to use mines with. And no borderline-exploitable infinite leaping shots lul.

You don't run the mines to deal damage. The damage on the mines is awful. You run the mines to set up combos, which is really well suited to a DW style because it makes the combat incredibly fast paced and fun if you pull it off intelligently. This is harder to spam on a bow because of the range difference and available combo finishers unless you exploit leaping shots.

This popped up in my feed and I must say you make it really look good. My only play-through of DA:I was with this build and I vouch for it even without the crazy critical damage and Rampage. I wish I could've have build it this way though. What I do like about the build is redefining the perspective of the Reaver. The give & take dynamic of the class mixed with a Sword and Shield, makes it seem more Knightly. The concept of sacrificing your life force to benefit and protect your party with equal parts of offense and defense can't be beat. I would probably build this way again on the next installment of DA. Fingers crossed that Reaver doesn't get swapped out for anything else. (Except maybe if the put dual weapons on a Warrior again.)

As a note, its a bit cheesy, but if you don't loot the chests in full in the underground dlc, you can get t2/t3 patterns & epic rings/items for free, even the set epics.

NINJA FLIPS, my affair with DRAGON AGE INQUISITION started last year when I bought and played on my PS3. I knew almost nothing about the game, how to craft weapons, armor and other things. Facing the first dragon of the first season was a big stress for me and from that moment on I stopped playing for a while until almost the end of last year, after watching some videos from other channels I started playing again and trying to understand and finish the game. After SKYHOLD, the situation improves in certain ways, but in other ways my stress increased. One of the aspects were called ENEMIES. After playing for a long time with each of the game's classes and with each character I fell in love with a game that I thought I would go back to the video store and switch to another game. To my surprise, of all the classes I played, the one that I managed to improve the most was ROGUE TEMPEST. Believe me, when I started playing it didn't look like I was going to be very successful, but the opposite happened.

Now I'm playing with the two handed warrior which is more complicated as he uses an ax or a two handed sword and for that my vision sometimes doesn't help so my focus should be extra for him and the other 3 players in addition to enemies. Between stress and joy in the game I say that this is one of the best games they created, even with the rotten fingers of the direction of ELETRONIC ARTS.

Keigan M yeah, but imo 2 was still a great game. The characters were great, and while it was small with repetitive environments, I found it had the most fun combat in the series. The development was rushed, but they focused on the areas of complaint. But you're right, suits kill creativity in countless series . But that's another conversation Also, I found the characters in 2 to be FAR more like able than in inq. Everyone in the new title seem... Varric was great, but he was introduced in 2. The love interests kind sucked, they screwed up leileana, the tried to make Cullen better but again, felt forced. I know I'm rambling but 2 definitely had it's great points. Especially nightmare combat and some of the class builds

I honestly thought they would have combined the two, but they went the "give em a big ass open world so we don't have to design shit" route. Inq was fun, but they had a lot of pieces from the first games to make inq one of the greatest games of all time

Just curious why you never bothered picking up horn of valor (+ fortifying blast), especially since you had already invested into Coupe de Gras by Level 10. WIth a duration of 13 sec and only 18 sec cooldown you can almost always have it active and generating +10% guard per hit. It seems super powerful, since it gives guard to your entire party without having to sacrifice valuable masterwork slots, or am I just missing something?

Cool build. Been trying it out, and having a lot of fun. I did make some alterations though; one of which was to replace Payback Strike with Charging Bull. I found I wasn't getting enough use out of Payback Strike, and really valued the mobility of Charging Bull, which still gives me a knockdown.

OK so I have 323 hours in DA:O and 157 hours in DA2. I played Inquisition ONCE in 2014. I fucking HATED it at the time and I jumped instad of paused with Spacebar... Skyrim rip off shit. I tried many times over the years to give it another try but never made it past the intro. The combat is shit with M+K. I swing and mobs move away so Im hitting thin air. Fuck off. This video breathed a new life and interest for me. Got Tresspasser and treating it like an MMO. Your video made combat playable for me- a die hard fan of the first two games. Thanks man! Grinded out the Hinterlands 100% before moving on to another zone. I got hooked now that I have a better feel for the game and Combat Roll SnB!

Do you by any chance have a video for a build that can work well with a variety of/any party composition on nightmare/ff? I like to frequently alternate party members for banter and variety and i typically have to play on normal or some such because of sub-optimal composition. I'm curious as to whether there's a build that can benefit the majority of party compositions because I hate compromising story but I really want more engaging gameplay in DAI.

Man, you overlooked the Magic Ability for a Battlemaster/Reaver build: Horn of Valor with the Fortifying Blast upgrade! What this does is give you (and your whole party) Guard for each point of damage you do- which means that you have full guard up just about all the time. So now you have complete control over your health bar, without enemies having any effect on it; and behind your guard you can drop it using Dragon Rage as far as you like.

For warrior yes. I think I like DW daggers the most, and a frost step/lightning cage mage is fun too. This build can get really fast late game, which is good considering how slow and clunky DAI can be

When I had a sword and a shield, I was basically immortal. All my team was always dead, but I always fought and I could not to die, because always I had guard on my life. :D

That's how I am when I play knight enchanter. I'm practically invincible. Except for when I tried going against the guardian in descent. I played that DLC way to underleveled, my team was slaughtered by tbe last big mob fight with the dwarves (but my mage was still alive), then I went down with my team against the guardian. Lol.

So I stumbled on this video when looking for unique builds for DA:I and on the whole I enjoyed it. Please note I didn't play the game on nightmare while using it, but I also found that if you upgrade both Devour and Dragon Rage, you can get up to 2K crits and a single devour can restore roughly half of your health. Because I was a Qunari I had to forego some of the cunning from a helm, but I was able to make up for it by sacrificing dex on arms and legs of the armor. If others wanted to play it at a lower difficulty, you could forego Livid completely, take those two upgrades, and you can still see ridiculous numbers even with being a S+S warrior. Also, the Axe of Green Edges has 3 leather offense slots.

This build looks great i have made a chaacter to try this out. But i also a question: Does belt of urgency increase the speed of the KE Spirit blade attack. I loved the idea of KE but always hated how slow the spirit blade attacked. If this belt increases the speed of spirit blade, it could make KE fun. I would have to keep my health low, and rely on barriers, it would could feel faster and more brutal but more risky = more fun.

It doesn't. Belt of urgency increases attack speed, but the spirit blade is an ability, not an attack. Casting speed would increase it, if it were a thing.

I gave this a like because I found it interesting, even though I'd never use it myself. The no pause gameplay just doesn't appeal to me. It makes the game feel more like an action game rather than an rpg, a big part of the reason I didn't care for the combat in DA2, which was much too fast for my taste. I find frequent pausing to set up and execute combos and otherwise micromanaging party behavior a lot more rewarding because it feels more "rpg" like to me. The speed of combat feels just about right compared to DA2. That said, the game does strike a nice balance, allowing for both your action gameplay style and my more methodical one. Bioware did get the balance just right in this game.

Hey there NJ, love your channel, just subbed as i'm starting DA:I again (never played the DLC's so thought this would be a good time to make a fresh char, and went with Revaer). Question tho, you're wearing the belt of urgency, which is a Tresspasser DLC item. Does it carry over to a fresh game tho? I hear you mentioning it but not how it can be obtained in this new game, as far as I understood, you need to beat the vanilla game first in order to start Tresspasser, so how does it work exactly? Yes and no. I think you might enjoy Inquisition, but DD is so unique in many ways. Only similar in that they are both rpgs.

Just look for leather offense slots. There's a mace and an axe that both have leather slots (Crit chance/dam) Same wit the haft - look for leather offense

I accidentally made a sword and shield reaver and I’ll tell y’all now beating the ever living shit out of people with cassandra on your side who’s also sword and shield stacking guard and armor buffs to each other with Vivian and sera spamming no cdr skills was the most fun I’ve ever had on a game. I put a lot of time into this game than I normally would for games like this and I had a blast. Just shredding through people gaining guard and shredding through more the entire time was amazing I was soloing dragons practically my inquisitor was a damn god beater by the end of the game. The minute AI hit me I’d just spam the purple abilities buff myself to stupid amounts with armor and bonus damage and just instakill everything

This is unrelated to the build but when you were talking about the shades during the first pride demon fight, you can actually immediately get rid of them if you interact with the rift at the right time. It's been awhile since I haven't played in a year so I forgot the timing but I figured that out on accident

Just watch your video (6 years too late lol)... I alway like the idea of Jack of allt trades character, that can be tank, dps, support at the same time.. thats why I often played as KE because KE is so versatile can be all tank, support n dps at the same time.. And I always want to try to be a tank, but I heard become a tank di DAI is boring, but after watch your video now I want to try to be this berserker tank build... Watching your build its feels like that character is half Tank half DPS + looks so fun.. I feel like it's a combination of rogue (speed, critical, auto attack) And warrior (guard, armor, shield, defend) So far i think this build is the closest one to KE build...

Great build!!, your right alot of fun. 1 question can you get a 2 handed reaver as fast as your sword & shield character in this build? Im real close, but i need to increase critical chance. My critical damage is solid at 135%, my crit chance sitting at about 35-40%

The 2H doesn't feel as fast, no. I did get the Superior belt of Urgency once with a 2H, but sadly you have to go into the Trespasser DLC (end game) to get it, and at that point it's game over. It made you attack even faster - but I can only imagine what that would do for the S+S

Thanks for the reply, my 2 hd reaver is a beast so far at lvl 20, almost no cooldown(1-2 secs if that) , i do have the enhance belt equipped right now, i no what your sayin about the superior belt, its to bad we cant have it in the core game. I do have to tweek some things like improving dex & some cunning to get higher crit chance+move faster anyway thanks bro lookin forward to ur next vids

I know I’m so damn late, but I’m praying for a response. I’m on my second play through, my first I was a total un-killable s+s champion, but I played on normal difficulty. Now I want to play nightmare but hear reaver is a far more fun class to play and can be virtually un-killable with the right gear and perks. What would you recommend?

The stuff he says about Dragon Age 2 around 29:20 is sooo damn true lol. It gets too much undeserved hate but I really love it so much and completely agree with this guy. You really do feel so badass in combat, plus I love that you can literally use any skill that you've learned up to that point, which led to very interesting combat.

Very good build...... this makes the games replay value awesome. That said I have absolute fun using assassin rogue.... Blackwall with the next tier ability and fade touch materials becomes an absolute fun to play with. Specifically when you play the DLC since all enemies are leveled to your level. Blackwall becomes an absolute Tank with walking fortress and the 10% walking fortress from fade touch materials.... he can be a shield and sword which allows you to stack fade touch materials to get guard and still activate guard from the ability tree....... if you follow the accessory he uses here for the warrior SIGIL OF LYRIUM (armor upgrade) automatically gives U 50% barrier bonus and lowers your health to 50%. In trespasser with the BELT OF URGENCY and HAND THAT CUTS RING and SKIN THAT STALKS........ BLACK WALL BECOMES UNGODLY......... though An assassin Rogue with dual Daggers one with walking fortress and the other with guard upgrade is a Pure and absolutely killing Machine....

The 'Superior' version is found in Trespasser. This is the 'Enhanced'. The Superior would have you attacking even faster, but would stick you in the end of the game :( The enhanced is a reward for war table mission "Upon The Waking Sea"

actually, it seems as though its impossible for me to get it. In order to do the war table mission you're talking about, you need to have done The Secrets and The Cult of Andraste, but I haven't done them and they are no longer available once you move to Skyhold, which I have done :/

I don't know if you ever got an answer, but you can have it from one of the fade touched materials, and I'm pretty sure if you have it ok a warrior with the upgrades it'll have the same effect too.

Hey bro. You still alive and well? I just bought DAI GOTY on sale and I am really excited to play it and to try out your built. But uhm .. is it for new players? I mean .. You are skipping some levels etc and I have no idea what to do inbetween. Do you have some guide going level by level? Also I read that female elf has hidden lore noone else does especially with Solas. How do I built Solas to use him instead of Vivianne? Or .. is he not needed in my party to get the lore?

@@Lunatalli This DA is the friendliest of them all, more like Skyrim in some ways. The skills that I picked are there, but the order isn't *nearly* as important as DA:O or DA2. If you're not playing with friendly fire on, then just use whatever or whoever, really. If you're going for more of a DA Nightmare experience, then the skills here steer clear of most of your Friendly Fire stuff. The "tactics" settings are for playing No Pause (without going to your tac cam) so you can just get in there and get after it. Viv's the only healer in the game, that's why I use her, and she's a mana battery. Solas is, well....an egg. But he's usable, just keep in mind all his specialist abilities are friendly fire, and with FF on he specializes in destroying your party lol. Not saying the useless p.o.s. is useless, he just has no usefulness :D

Also one more question .. if I play with friendly fire off. Would you build your team differently? I mean ... I am really into lore in games and such, I read all books, letters and so on. I want to "live" in the game. So I really want Solas, that's why I made female elf to get the lore only made for those 2. But I want to play NO pause game. So without friendly fire on, what would you suggest to build? I still want all my party members to do their job without me using tactic cam. Solas and Varic stay far away from fight to not get hit by mobs for no reason etc. I am playing on Nightmare with Grizzly and Even Grounds trial. Just no FF atm.

friendly fire is great if you're not playing as a mage, because you would kill the whole team including yourself with an electric chain.

For warrior all you need to invest in is horn of valor and its upgrade which gives 10% guard for each hit for all allies.

I loved friendly fire in the other two games and quickly gave up on it in this game. I felt I couldn't control when allies would damage their own party, especially melee DD damaging the tank. I'll give it another shot, over 1k hours in, I love the trials all active so friendly fire would be pretty risky with the no potion effect.

In this game can you max out everything in every tree or forced to specialize? I chose the warrior dwarf dude and selected tha guard ability but you cant attack while guard shield up so i dont see the point of the "damage has to break shield to damage you" part. I closed a few of those green rifts then started playing skyrim instead lol

You can max out all skills on consoles by using the amulet of power duplication trick on skyhold chest storage

There's something I don't understand so please help 😣 Solo dragon battle: In the build there is War Cry and livid as well as Shield Wall. Yet it seems none of these skills are mapped to hotkeys??? there's No Valor (horn) either So how is guard being generated when you can't use skills that are not keyed? Also how are you maintaining low health when Reaver skill consumes it? Especially when your not using Devour (to heal) or Ring of Pain in conjunction with Dragon Rage...🤔 In my experience the regen bottles don't restore well enough to prevent death past a couple of hits (I'm Lv21 but not respec to this build yet). I take it that you allow the AI to use the Focus abilities of team as ticked or prefer? As they are automatic disabled and I've been playing by mapping and manual activation. which is taxing trying to remember what each one does. I think the only amendment that would have made this video easier to grasp, would be a proper view of tactics for all characters and also button mapps, in addition to the weapon and Armour specking that you have already covered which were brilliant. Most fun I had was a dagger using Artificer that, whenever he wasn't throwing things that explode, was regaining stamina through daggercrits to throw more bombs. But this looks nice too

It's funny how a lot of the companions have the wrong weapons for their build. You mentioned Iron Bull having a shield. I noticed the last time I played that all three rogues are better off switching between ranged/melee. It wasn't always like that, but I think the Trespasser DLC fixed a bug in Assassination and gave Varic's class a broken passive ability for melee.

The downside I found for melee rogues is there are no tactics to enable combos for them. Like MfD/Stealth/Hidden Blades/Backstab/Twin Fangs/MfD combo. Daggers just get them slaughtered. I just keep them ranged with Long Shot, it keeps them out of trouble and does good enough DPS

Hi, I know I’m very late to the party but I don’t care. Personally a fan of lunge and slash with its range upgrade, for any of my shield characters. Basically makes it where you don’t need hook or the roll to close the distance, you just lunge and the damage is usually quite good. Plus I’m just not a fan of roll spamming for a shield character. It fits a two hander because they only have their two hander, but a shields supposed to take or redirect the damage. Just my opinion tho cause I know the roll with the damage buff is very good! Reaver with sword and board is very fun! It’s like you have a tank one moment and a damage dealer the next
