Chen Qiao En is the most beautiful and the most shining actress in the show. Her portraying of Dongfang Bubai is awesome. I think DFBB wouldn't have had so many fans around the world if Joe Chen wasn't playing the character. DFBB character development and her love for LHC are the best things this 2012 version has to offer. I wish they will make an alternate ending for DFBB-LHC couple. Chen Qiao En for ever!!!
When I first saw this drama, I thought the main actors had really good chemistry together. I later found out that they used to date each other in real life. Thats why it looked so real.
They broke up 10 years before this drama, and they had no contact in those ten years. Maybe it was a part of the reason her acting looked so real... maybe she felt the same as her character.

Argh, I both love and hate this drama. DBFBB and LHC have so much chemistry together throughout, even at the end, and yet they want me to believe that LHC suddenly madly in love with YY who really just show up a few episodes before the end. Thanks for the MV. Some of the best moments of the drama.
Love the role of DFBB, excellent performance by Joe Chen, I wish they make sequel to it as in the end DFBB is being shown to open her eyes , it means she is not dead !
Reminded again about the ending and the disappointment I felt when they didn’t end up together in this series...She did everything and showed her love for him in so many ways but he didn’t even have the courage and effort to understand them. They retconned her powerful Kung-fu as due to her being the disciple of Du Gu Qiu Bai (the great kung-fu master of the previous generation, the one who invented the sword style LHC learned).
@@trolltronify This version is the first time Dugu Qiubai actually appeared in person even though it's through flashback. In all the other previous adaptations of the original novel he never appear in person only mentioned by name.

This is one of the my favourite songs, and the drama is also the best ever, and I reviewed it many times. I don't have problem with the ending, once you experienced the true love, you are good.
It’s like their true love story. They were once lovers in real life till Wallace Huo was involved with another girl that caused Joe Chen to break up with him. Her performance here as being heart broken was very realistic and emotional. Heart-wrenching.
i really love joe chens acting in this drama but im a bit upset bcoz he didnt end up with wallance huo. im hoping that joe chen would make a lot of action drama it really suits with her
This is the fourth time watching this series again. In the novel Dongfang Bubai was a man who wanted power. He coveted the Sunflower Manual and despite the dangers of maiming the practitioner body due to the castration requirement. DFBB desire for power is so great, he gave in to temptation and learn the Sunflower manual. In the end the Sunflower manual messed up his mind that he started to resent his life and killed all those who sought to become like him. Finally, he retreated and hide in seclusion never to be involved in world matters again. He was known as the most or one of the most powerful martial artist of his time. In the novel it mentions of character names that helped paved the martial artist world, but that's for another story to be told. I totally forgot if Dongfang Bubai ever fell in love in the novel, but whatever. Overall keep in mind the adaptation is different from the novel. From the series adaptation though they changed a lot of things, the acting was good. It was good to see Dongfang Bubai played as a female character. For people who hate the ending think positive because DFBB is the antagonist while LHC is the protagonist. The antagonist and protagonist never have a happy ending. Though they couldn't have a happy ending, DFBB saved the other girl giving his heart to her. In other terms now DFBB heart now belongs to LHC forever. Though it never mentions if Dongfang Bubai died in the end, that's for audience to think about. Who knows maybe she survived. People get it now, DFBB HEART BELONG LHC FOREVER. LHC first true love.
The best part of the show is the fact that DFBB is the strongest person. Seeing her kick all the dude's ass was wondrous. Eunuchs are also hilarious , it is a shame that the same actors are repeated so often that we had the eunuch play Yang Guo in Romance of the Condor Heroes.
DFBB & LHC should have had a happy ending. The drama makes me love them too much to think of him with the other girl. They were so perfect together. ♡♡♡
Joe Chen did an amazing job as DFBB. Great facial expressions and really pro moments of emotion. Love this MV also, especially 2:12 where Joe just smells the wine while in midst of battle like she doesn't care.

this is legit my favorite Chinese drama(I only watch martial arts related basically wuxia) and idc if ppl say Chinese Paladin 1 or 3 is better or Journey of Flower or The Condor serious...but I felt so much through this drama and it's amazing...still hate the ending lol but my favorite
The ending has its meaning with the heart but so sad for DPBB bcz LHC never knows what she did. It should have part 2 and BPBB become alive again. A fan from Vietnam:)
That's true but he found out that it was really Ying Ying in the end anyway so she didn't suffer that long. On the other hand, he never knew badly he mistreated DFBB. Everyone kept bullying her about him being dead so she killed them, but all he thought was she was killing for fun. I'm still in the middle of watch it btw =/

Just finished the drama and I'm with most people on the ending. Dongfang turned out to be my favorite character in the whole drama. I think the Director shouldn't have developed Linghu and dongfang's relationship so much because it made us like them, as a couple more than ying ying. I felt completely sad and unsatisfied with how everything turned out. Ugh, why do they always have to make such a tragic ending in these dramas????!! :((((((

Only both Lin and Tay's version of Dongfang Bubai was a trans woman and was kinda romantically attracted to Linghu Chong before becoming enemies.

clearly the dissatisfaction viewers feel is not that changes were made to Jin Yong's original DFBB character. it is about how such promising changes eventually fell flat because the script writers could not deliver something better than a contrived near-ridiculous ending, unworthy of the standards Jin Yong has set. Indirectly it just shows what a genius Jin Yong is as a story teller.

+chhmar99utube I think in this version the ACTORS were main things who got to lead the story in another emotions wind. and that's why ending was not satisfying because the novel gave the stone of this series but actors slightly changes and pace of story made it to seek for another ending and they just forced the one from novel which is STUPID in y opinion. if you change something and actors and the story leads to another thing than the written ending you need to go for best choice and not for the border made. if you want the same thing read novel. that's why I am watching serials to see another kind of interpretation or susprise of the same story and if quallity is good I can like it as this version I like also although I like novel also and I totally love ending of novel but IN THIS case I absolutely don't approve such ending especially in the case of DFBB.
Travesty that they changed the male/female role of DFBB but ended on such a bad NOTE. If the writers wanted to alter this story they should of made DFBB and LHC married @ the end. The ending would be more compelling and rewarding that true love can not be measured in quantities of wealth, power or skill but from acts of honorable kindness from the heart.
To anyone still reading this. Linghu Chong is just a tragic hero in all this. With the sunflower book only known for males castrating themselves to achieve power. Du fong bu bai in question never reveals if she/he is really a guy or girl. In previous swordsman drama and movies, DFBB never once said if he/she was a guy or girl and let linghu Chong to figure out. The theme of this story is that people often judge by how you look and where you originate from but NOT for who you are. At the end, our hero is just another victim of this cycle. Just because people said that only castrated men can learn from the sunflower book. Does it really mean it’s true? In this version of the drama it shows the DFBB is in fact a girl. In previous movies/ dramas it was men actors with womanly features or women actress with man-like features but leaves little info if DFBB is a woman or a man. This story itself is to leave for us viewers/readers to figure. I love this drama because it mocks at us as humanity itself. We believe everything we see and hear and this drama proves it from the very fact that people will often say “but dfbb is a guy!” Is he/she? At the end, linghu Chong too becomes hypocrite of the society he once laughed at with DFBB when they drank together. The bond they once had proved it. For him to change at the end just because someone else said so and so. Again it shows just how real life is really like also, we don’t follow our hearts.

This was so far the only adaptation version of The Smiling, Proud Wanderer wuxia television series drama where the female version of Dongfang Bubai was treated like a real woman and all the actresses that portrayed the female version of the Dongfang Bubai character were great to me.

Yep. The director changed her gender, and gave her the plots of at least 4 other people to make it look like she was going all out for him. It was already a completely new story. Then the dumb director had to stick with the original couple out of nowhere...

Poor her. Dong Fang Bu Bai deserves better than that :( Although this movie is kinda different to the original one, I love this version. It's painful to see Dong Fang die in the end of the movie, but maybe it's a best ending for this moving in real and even in her story!!!

for beginners in novel and series world. you need to learn to DIFFERATE - TELEVISION ADAPTATION and NOVEL. those are 2 different things. NEVER series will give the same feeling and emotions as novel, and you can't put them on the same level and expect them to act out in the same way. I like novel ending and I like RY in novel. BUT IN THIS 2013 SWORDSMAN SERIES I HATE ENDING! In this series version I absolutelly ADORE DONG FANG BU BAI! actress was amazing and she brought such an delicate cahracter on surface. I like changes in gender in the story pace as actors were leading it in that direction. and if you FORCE ENDING OF NOVEL ON DRAMA SERIES EVEN IF THE PACE OF STORY AND CHARACTERS WERE LEADING ANOTHER PACE it just makes one BIG FAIL. I don't know why they always do it? Ok I get it in ending of novel LHC and RY ok, B UT WHY YOU NEED TO MAKE COPYCAT of novel in the series if you MADE CHANGES already with characters and story going and emotions??? so unprofessional and unartistic. If you watch old russian movies of Gaiday, you can feel that spontanous pace since he yeah he followed scrpit BUT if actors or sceneries or just pace of recording did change feels and emotions he WOULD change script and make it into something naturral and good. This series were great, and so far I like it the most out of all Swordsman TV versions since DFBB character was brought on interesting view point, and not just to judge evil but to see how ignorant we ca be sometimes with pretence of being 'good' and how 'evil' doesn't mean necessary that and if you show supporting hand it can turn out into good. also aspect of ROMANCE and LOVE was done great. between LHC and DFBB. BUT uponly to 30+ ep.. then LHC started to go on my nerves (though I like Wallace xD). Ok for Joe I just clap for satisfaying all criteria for making such an outstanding female DFBB and leading great romance in that direction with LHC. and I absolutelly DON'T APPROVE and DON'T LOVE and HATE ENDING! why always 'bad guys' are taking all punishment even if some weren't bad in many ways? as for RY I don't see her saint nor good and that ending didn't make any sense nor i could feel anything between beside just slight friendship. so I REALLY DEMAND for some sequel of this version. gosh this breaks my heart still >_< uh I can't watch it..
At start of the show, it should have said "base on", not "adaptation". As this show has change the core story quite alot. In the original story, Dong Fang Bu Bai isnt really the main character. If you watch it again at start, you could see what they(writers) already made it quite clear (in many different point before episode 10)at start this is end "badly(as sad ending)". -"Love is about making the one you love HAPPY, even if its at cost of your happeness(or in Dong Fangs case,her life)"
Samurai Sx I'm with you. If you watched the entire series then you'll realize that LC's love with Miss Yue was entirely bc they grew up together. LC's love with Yilin is nothing more then a brother/sister. His love with RY was only bc she did so many good deeds for him. We all know that his true first love is DFBB. LC and DFBB spent time together and he brought out the goodness in her. He loved her and vice versa. Her love is selfless to the point where she gave up her life to give LC happiness. #Heartbreaking #TrueLove
this drama is so so so messed up because Wallace like the other girl instead of joe . also he wanted to kill himself when she died that is so messed up. also Joe (dong fang bai) she given her heart to the other girl instead.:(:(
I have seen few episode of this with English subtitle and watched rest all with out knowing language... I love this one :>. If admin can add English subtitle for all episode then many people will watch and enjoy this.
I have not watched this drama but what i saw at the end just now made me think that the director just had to end the drama so she had to die and he doesn't care how she dies
yea. Gotta say was pretty disappointed with the ending. I mean it didn't follow the Novel all that much and he could have gave them a happy ending...they had way more camera time and the girl he ended with really only used him...she never gave much affection for him or did anything...he actually was used by her and it was DFBB who gave everything for him....such a pity.

With such an overwhelmingly number of negative comments about the ending, I am confident that of the millions who watched, a big percentage of them probably hate the ending too. So, to make sure that the screenwriter and director doesn't keep writing such unlikely and unhappy endings in the future, the viewers should boycott the movies written by the same screenwriter or the same director, and should warn the people ahead of time of that unhappy ending so people won't watch it .
